Title: The Worst Day of My Life with my PSX2
Post by: on January 07, 2001, 07:33:36 PM
Well after waiting 14 hours in line and being the first one to get one, my PSX2 has just broken down.......i mean i just come home and its not on standby so i try to flip it on..nope...try another outlet....nope.....drive 2 hours to use my friends power cord...nope...and now since i cant return it Sonys gonna fix it.....the REALLY bad part is a rental game is stuck in there and now i have to buy Street Fighter EX 3(god why did i rent that) and give it to blockbuster since the manager was`nt too happy about it....i`ll give sony credit their paying for the game, and for it to be shipped both ways but i mean 2 months with no psx2 oh well....sony is awsome for what their doing but what happened is horrible and even thought it was starting to get dusty i miss it more now since i cant play anything i mean ahhhhh oh well enough about me complaining....its true thought u never know what u have until its gone....time for some psx and sega action enjoy what u got i mean nba live i cant bare the thought

That\'s good, but mostly bad, two months, why so long????  At least they paid for the game, but still, two months???

Thanks for the support....well since they are paying for it they are paying for air mail to send it to them and ground to send it back.....and then 7-15 business days after they get it until a tech gets his hands on it, and then another week or two to get it back so it is possible for it to be 2 months... all i know is that now that this happened i need a new cpu because there are a few games i want to play and now that my ps2 doesnt work..its an excuse to get one :)but i would have never thought that with all these sweet games coming out my nice little psx2 would go away....if only they made enough so i could just return it...oh and anyone who reads this if u got an extended warrenty from best buy or circuit city or anyway for that matter they WILL NOT give u another one....they will give u ur money back and tell u that U MUST FIND ONE on ur own and they will not hold one for you when they get more...so i pretty much wasted money on an extended service program..

Sounds like a pretty lousy situation. It is good that SOny is doing so much to help you with all of this stuff. Of course it is their fault for making a bad system, but it\'s a pretty rare sight for a company to serve their customers that well.

I hope all goes well for you.  It\'s going to be my turn next.  My PS2 plays like crap.  Smackdown 2 won\'t play.  90% of the DVDs I get won\'t play.  I already e-mailed and called Sony so maybe I\'ll get a response tomorrow.

you\'ll be waiting longer then you thought to get it back. I sent my unit in on December 27th and they received it on December 28th. My PS2 sat there and collected dust until they 6th of January. That\'s when they assigned it to a technican. So i called them and ask them how long. I was told by 2 different people that i was told incorrectly over the phone that you won\'t get it back 15-20 business days from shipping it but 15-20 business days after being assigned to a technican.

When i sent mine in they couldn\'t figure out what was wrong with it so they sent me a completley new one.... It took em about 3 1/2 weeks to get it out to me though. Oh and the iceing on the cake is I had to pay shipping and handling $20. Oh well i got store credit for it but still its their fault for making a faulty system then i dont have it for over 3 weeks then must a pay a charge. Does anyone else see a problem with that? I do. Oh well its all cool now. :)

Damn, these stories just suck.  A product should not break down like that 2-3 months after purchase.  I hope Sony is pulling together a lot of resources to give customers what they deserve & more.  Haha, and that story about that Extended Service Plan is just a joke, what a ripoff.  No wonder so many people have bad-mouthed and made fun of them.

I feel so fortunate since mine seems to be running just fine, I hope I didn\'t just jinx myself.......

Post by: on January 08, 2001, 08:18:13 AM

I\'m afraid so.  If the DVD is gold-backed I don\'t even try it b/c I know it won\'t work.  But sometimes the silvers won\'t work either.  Smackdown 2 locks up on the loading screens 90% I try it.

I just received an e-mail from Sony over this little letter I sent to their site: (I thought maybe someone would be interested)

Quote
my letter to Sony
Dear Sony, I will start by saying I\'ve always been satisfied with my Playstation and with other Sony electronics I\'ve bought. However, I am deeply disappointed in the performance of my Playstation 2.
I have read your consumer alert on your PS1 games that perform differently.  Well, I can say there are more titles than are listed on your site. This problem doesn\'t concern me half as much as the poor DVD playback. Four of the Five DVDs I\'ve played in my PS2 will only play halfway through the movie with severe problems thereafter making them unwatchable.
I have already contacted your tech support and described these problems. Your representative\'s response was that GOLD-backed DVDs don\'t play back properly due to an anti-piracy routine installed on the PS2 to detect GOLD-backing. There was no reason given for the faulty playback or NO playback thereof for PS1 games.
Your representative said that Sony was working with DVD makers to stop production of GOLD-backed DVDs, as a resolution to this problem. I don\'t understand this.  CDR\'s are available in many colors, blue and green just to name a couple.  And even if Sony did succeed in stopping the production of all GOLD-backed DVDs, what would that do for the thousands already in existence? Furthermore, how am I to know what color the back of a DVD is when I purchase it?
Here\'s what really troubles me:  I told the tech support rep that I wanted to start buying DVDs and his response to me was "Don\'t." So where does that leave me? I\'m afraid to buy DVDs for fear of them not being compatible and I don\'t want to buy PS1 games for fear that they won\'t work properly or at all.
I just feel as if I\'ve payed 100% of the cost for a product that has only 33% functionality.  Let me share with you what happened to me tonight:

I had company over tonight who all brought food and we got together to play    Madden2k1, and to watch a DVD on my PS2, and listen to its surround sound on my new Sony DTS receiver. Halfway into the movie, The Replacements, which I rented, the glitches and skips started appearing and the movie became unwatchable. So my company sat in my apartment doing nothing while I, the host, had to go back to the rental store to exchange the DVD for VHS.

Sony, please come up with a solution and quickly. I\'ve spent $300 on a system that doesn\'t perform as it should, and with a small game library.

Thank you,
Rob Benton

Well that\'s comforting! Of all the effort I put into importing a US PS2 to where I live, the UK, and now knowing about the defects, problems, malfunctions, explosions.. ooohhh the horror.. the horror. Anyway, if my US PS2 do break down, can it still be repaired in the UK? Well, I know I have to pay for the repair service (dammit  ). What happened to the ol\' Sony quality products?
Lucky Euopean PS2 buyers! Tho\' they have to wait a little longer, they got the best of the bunch!

The gold-backed DVD problem has been declared an "open item" by Sony.  That means that if a fix is found that people who are not under warranty anymore can still send their system in to be repaired at no cost, except for shipping I\'m sure.

I\'m still waiting on a call.  I gave them my work & home # b/c I want this over with ASAP.  I can\'t stand loose ends and this is a biggen\'

Out of 11 tested DVD\'s, all I can get to run now is Gladiator and Romeo Must Die.

I havent had problems with games yet, hope I never do. When the shipments come in MArch, I\'m returning mine. I need to watch Road Trip!

I have a problem with mine here in the uk.  It is mainly a problem with the A/V port that I have a problem with.  It just keeps cutting out the signal from my ps2 to the TV.  I phoned Sony and they are sending out a replacement via courier, who will then take my old one back.  I should be up and running again on Friday 12th.

Thank you Sony.
