seems like the hype factor has invaded the scene again...
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/story.cfm?sid=2007
As for moving footage that was that. It was all very pretty, and things have certainly progressed since the tech demos of the Game Developer\'s Conference in San Jose last March, but after taking in the splendour of Metal Gear Solid 2 on PlayStation 2 towards the end of last year, many industry specialists in Las Vegas today, speaking under conditions of anonimity, were sceptical of the bar Xbox respresents over the Sony next generation machine.
-
ahh.. what does this mean exactly
its writen in some wierd lanuage
-
microsoft is hyping the thing like ps2, and its not gonna live up to it!
-
Apparently, after seeing MGS2 on the PS2, if the Xbox can\'t beat it (note, I said beat it, not match it), then the Xbox won\'t live up to the hype. I do believe, it will eventually beat the graphics of the PS2 (it has to), but when and to what degree, I don\'t even want to speculate.
-
So....here\'s the Sony fanboys making themselves feel better. I wondered were you all went to diss other systems, and here you are! j/k :p
Seriously though, Malice is already graphically superior to MGS2, but don\'t worry. PS2 has WipEout Fusion, GT3, ZOE (even though I hate it), the best version ever of Half Life, Tekken 4, FFX, and many others. New consoles aren\'t always about graphics (that\'s what new generations of consoles are for, XB and GC are entering a already started generation, not starting a new one.). Let\'s remember, while XB will look better (and I am assuming GC too), PS2 has, like DC, many great exclusive games worth buying. Never lose sight of what\'s important *EThugg stares strait at Chrono*.....:D

Put flames suit on...
This is debatable. From what I saw, Malice looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me emphesize that even more before I continue, Malice looks great! But better then MGS2? I don\'t think so. Malice, has great lighting and textures. But MGS2 has the atmosphere, the mood, and the feel going with it. Facial features on Snake and the detail on the guards and setting. Nice small details. Compared to a relatively boxy looking Malice. Also, Kojima never meant MGS2 to be the graphically ***** other games aim for anyways, he focused on the gameplay. Also, a few minutes of Malice (a platformer), compared to MGS2 (a adventure game) that, isn\'t even out yet (heck, neither games are out yet). So, you can\'t really compare graphics of these two games.
And yes, games are what count. Graphics doesn\'t matter. Gameplay does. Though, whats great about gameplay if the graphics don\'t follow. ;)
-
Hmm... haven\'t seen the Malice game/screenshots. MGS2\'s gonna be on both PS2 and X Box and graphics quality really depends on the MGS2 graphics department, how they can use each console capability. But when both has come out, then the comparison can really begin. Anyway is there any other game which will be released on both PS2 and X Box sooner than MGS2?

Then go to...

...for ACTUAL ingame screenshots and the latest movie.
The bump mapping and realtime polygon shadows are awesome (1/5th final Xbox power)! :)
-
well I in turn think we should wait before we start comparing graphics, cause MGS2 isn\'t out and Malice is only running at 1/5 of the true power, so just wait till both sytems are out together and then start comparing.
-
True.
-
well here is more Xbox info,it\'s getting interesting and some are not buying the hype...

Both demonstration games (Malice by Argonaut Games and Microsoft\'s OddWorld: Munch\'s Oddysee) are titles that were originally developed for the Sony PlayStation 2, but supposedly aborted because their developers didn\'t think PlayStation was machine enough for them. Even on a demonstration machine with 64 megabytes of memory and an 8 gigabyte hard disk, the games don\'t look as good as either Sega or Sony\'s current offerings.
-
Well I\'ve looked hard at those screens of Malice and Munch\'s over at
http://www.consoledomain.com/articles/1093.html
http://www.consoledomain.com/articles/1094.html
and they are very impressive, Abe and Munch are made up of alot of polygons and the textures are very nice. Alice has a tremendous amount of detail in the hammer alone and the shots of Metal Alice with pipes in the back ground is jaw dropping gorgeous to me. If MS is telling the truth or even 1/2 of the truth then you will get a polygon pushing texture mashing console with Xbox. IMO I think Xbox is for real, I don\'t want to believe it, cause I don\'t want MS taking over the industry, and the only way they could take over the industry is to make a console 3-5 times as powerful as the PS2. Guess !!!!
I\'d post the pics here but I know that\'ll piss off some of us.
Still Games like GT3, ZOE, Onimusha are all looking great and we\'ve yet to come close to the cap on the PS2\'s potential.

I guess I wasn\'t clear...
I\'m not comparing MGS2 to Malice gameplay wise or on style. I\'m saying that seeing both games pics/video\'s from the net, Malice is cleaner, doesnt have jaggies, and is obviously pushing more polygons. I personally like MGS2\'s realistic style better, I was simply comparing the graphics. And to say its not fair to compare the 2, why not? They are both expected out the same time. They both are only publically avalible as pics/video\'s. Malice is a launch title done on unfinished dev kits, where as MGS2 is 2nd gen on finished kits. If anything, its unfair to XB and Malice. I\'m simply pointing out that with those hurdles, Malice /XB is still looking better.

gaming age = biased against MS!

Umm, this guy has gotta be joking. This is one of the best looking games I have ever seen. Geez, that is just bias tot he worst degree. Even I will give credit where ti is due in terms of graphics.:D

ummmm are y\'all dumb or what? Malice, Mario, [insert cartoon game here] are not supposed to look photorealistic like MGS2.... Like Anime games don\'t look photorealistic such as Malice. Does reboot look like a cartoon or photorealistic, come on, I think anyone with half a brain can tell the difference.
MGS2 is a result of high polygons, particle explosions and physics and maybe motion blur and dark scenes. The Xbox can handle this with ease. What it doesn\'t have is realistic lighting.
Sometimes some of you have to understand simple concepts before you can walk. PS2 can do high polygons and physics, but it really lacks graphics effects like bumpmapping, per pixel shadding and lighting, and REAL anti-aliasing (not like the cheezy effects that are going on right now on the PS2)....
-
Oooohh... THAT\'s Malice... actually I\'ve been looking at it for sometime but didn\'t know the name of the game, DOH! Yes, Malice is graphically better than MGS2 in terms of environment details cuz of that bump mapping thingy. I don\'t know why but a game with great graphics like Malice just doesn\'t interest me. Cuz since graphically it\'s too good, I just can\'t feel that it is a game. BTW, Malice is really kiddy game just by looking at one screenshot, everyone knows this. C\'mon X Box, give us "real gamers" some "real" impressions, not this.
-
Shadowflare, not bumpmapping, per-pixel shading.

I\'m with you on this one. He may as well said it couldn\'t compare to the N64. The game looks amazing. He could of been alittle more "acceptable" by saying it doesn\'t look like a huge leap from PS2. But saying that it doesn\'t look better then something on the DC? I love the DC. But even I know that the DC could never handle those graphics...

Actually, Gaming-Age isn\'t biased against Microsoft. It wasn\'t an article written by them - it was from Forbes.
May I suggest researching things a little before judging? :p

Surprising poll on xbox. I thought most of them would vote yes.
