Im thinking about buying a new TV for my PS2...

What do you think about the 16/9 format (wide screen)? Is it usefull for Ps2?

Or should I just buy a large screen?

Sony is a bit expansive....are there other recommended brands?
-
well Hitachi are the best T.V. makers but are also the most exspensive, if I were you I would go for RCV or Zenith, they make big nice tv\'s that are affordable, but I don\'t think you\'ll get a flat screen for as cheep as you will with those brands

Go for JVC, Panasonic, or standard Trinitron if you\'re looking for a $300-$400 TV.  Higher end widescreens I would go for Mitsubishi, Toshiba, or Sony (not the Wega, which is a waste of cash imo).  I think the only 16x9 game out right now is SSX, but more and more will be available as HDTV becomes more prominent.  Here\'s a pic of Videoholic\'s kickass setup:

Notice how the game is in widescreen, looks much more fun and immersing when going 45+mph down those hills.

i was thinking the same thing.
i will need a new tv also as my 14" just wont do. my friend has a 28" and he got it for £200. i might find out where he got it.

WideScreen all the way.  I don\'t have a projection like him, nor did I want one.  I do have a 43\' widscreen Mitsubishi whish is awesome.  And there not that much more then a good size sony.  I recomend WideScreen all the way...

SSX is the only game out right now that takes advantage of this.  I hope to god Madden 2002 is widescreen next year.  It would be so awesome to see the whole line...

I don\'t know if I would be a 16X9 tv unless it\'s HD compatible.  You are talking about an HD unit right?  They are about 2500 to 3500 now for a good set.

 Lucky bastard Grrrrr:mad:

Well, I\'d prefer a large screen 4:3 format. Cuz most branded TVs can change the picture format to 16:9 as well. This is IMO though, cuz I got a 5+ year old Panasonic 25" 4:3, can be toggled to 16:9.

Wohooo 43"!! You can even play yer PS2 from your neighbour\'s living room! :D

Yeah its HD upgradeable.  But I heard that with a progressive scan DVD play, even an \'up-gradeable\' dvd player will take more advantage of an HD ready TV.  I am seriously thinking about getting a progressive scan DVD player, but I would like to see one first and see if there really is that much different.

ANd Im not a lucky bastard I just work a lot, so I like to go home to nice things....  And I know you just kidding...

				widescreen rocks!

Of course I was kidding I would never be mad at you.You know that;)
And I work alot to but I spend it all on my comp. But I have a nice brand new Philips 29"(don\'t laugh you big screen bastard;))and it serves my just well.

Progressive scan DVD is awesome.  I have DVD on my laptop and I have it plugged into my Projection unit every once and a while.  I don\'t have a good audio card in the laptop though so I don\'t watch movies that way, but it looks incredible/  I am going to get a new computer hopefully sometime soon and I am going to get it connected to the projector for movies.  I\'m really hoping the PS2 comes out with a VGA card.  Then it will be the way to go.

Video- your projector has VGA in?  Have you tried playing DC with the VGA box on it?  I hear it looks amazing.  I\'ve seen it on a monitor, but I\'m sure playing games on a big screen/Front-end projector in 480p looks even better.  I\'m saving up for the Mitsu 55" Platinum Plus instead now since it has VGA in.  Which will take me ohhhhh, 6 years. :P

I play on a 56" Zenith (I think it is. 54" at the least but I"m pretty sure its 56".) with dolby 5.1 audio. Armored Core 2 was awesome with the volume high. I swear the developers of it could hear me playing there game.
