i read some post that said you can hurt your ps2 by turning it off wrong. all i do to turn it off is flick the main power switch, i dont pause the game or anything, and now i hear i could be damaging my system. i read the instructions and it doesnt give a specific way to turn off the system. Are u supposed to leave it on stand buy for hours apon hours. HELP ME!!!!! HOW DO U TURN OFF YOUR PS2 CORRECTLY?????????

Answer:
If your going to leave it off for a few days or weeks, use the switch in the back.
Otherwise hold the reset button and it will go into standbye mode.

If you want to turn it off
Hold the green light till it turns red (a second or so)
Then hit the power in the back.
Don\'t just hit the power switch in the back if its on though.

I thought you were suppose to hit X,X,O,O,Square, then spin around two times, then eat a bologna sandwich....
That\'s the way I turn mine off.

I\'m surprised that you haven\'t knocked it off the side, what with your pad getting wrapped around your legs LOL :D

Geez guys! I don\'t mean to sound like a crab....well, maybe..;)
Everything in your house that has a remote (Stereo, TV, etc, ) is CONSTANTLY in standby mode. Leaving the PS2 in standby will not hurt it no more than leaving your TV or stereo\'s plugged in, they are always in standby unless you unplug them(otherwise the remotes couldn\'t power them on).
But I do agree. You do want to put in stby before switching off main power.
When in stby, basically the 120v in is going to a big transformer and outputing a teeny tiny voltage (probably 5vdc or even 3vdc) to the power button. That\'s it!
The chances of the x-former and the one or two transistors involved (in the voltage conversion) going bad are sky high. How often has your stereo or tv stopped working because of being in stby?
Just relax, and use the stby feature. It works fine.:)

When you want turn off your system pulse reset button one second or two and the machine will be in Stan by mode until you can again... if you don“t play for a few days or weeks you must turn off the system in the main power interruptor. ;)

Well, what I do is if I play the PS2 in da morning or afternoon, after I\'m done I put it on standby, but when it\'s time for beddy time, I turn the main switch off and unplug the PS2 from the transformer and unplug the transformer from the mains.

Well here is what I really do, I was just being funny before.
I push the reset button and hold it for 10 seconds. I want to make sure it\'s in standby mode and those extra 7 seconds can only help.
I then turn the switch off in the back.
Then I scotch tape the button in the off position. You never can be too sure.
I then take the plug out of the back of the PS2 box.
Then I pull the plug out of the wall.
You never can be too careful so what I do next is I turn the breaker off to that section of the house.
I just hope that no problems can occur from me leaving the rca plugs in the stereo. But that would be too much trouble.

If you\'re going to turn it off for a few hours or days, hold the reset button until it goes into Standby, then turn it off from the switch on the back. If you\'re just changing a game or turning off for a few minutes just put it on standby.

turn it off like a computer. That might help you remember.

Good advice ViVi.
Shut it down, then turn it off.
