Title: GO USA, LONG LIVE THE X-BOX
Post by: jiggs on January 09, 2001, 01:35:00 PM
First of all I am a gamer I could give a care for screwy fan loyalty. Who cares which system is concidered the best franky its the games that count. I own a great PC that I love along with my ps2 and DC. I love them all and I am going to love the X-box as well. So what if the japanese or any one else hates american products thats too bad for them. They are closed minded anyway and have greater loyaltys to thier products than americans. That might seem like a bad thing but to them it is survival. Maybe they are jealous that finally an american console is a real threat to thier change pocket or that an american machine can achieve a frame rate of 300 fps. Who cares what they think when they see it they will want it no matter what. This is a great day for gamers, american gamers. Long live all great gaming systems including the DC. Just play the game. Love it or leave it!

it matters alot, it will mean you will only see ports from other consoles beacuse its the best way to make money. Almost all games come from japan, and if that country does not like your console, it does not bid well for the console. Plus, the x-box brings about no innovation or creativity such as past consoles have, I have no excitement towards the hype-box whatsoever and it will fail horribly in japan, yes that is my prediction but its a wait and see thing. You must also remember that not everybody can afford all consoles, and must therefore pick the best one for their tastes, and this does bring about some good compeition.

Ports tend to ummm NOT sell well. Dreamcast gets PS2 ports from capcom all the time with Extra stuff. And they NEVER ever reach the top 10. We\'ll see how well Xbox does. The Japanese are already pissed off.

O sweet jesus pc gaming rocks. xbox will be better in sports, first person shooter and and strategy. Sony  needs to get an actual broadband service besides some slow ass  3rd party modem.

see all you *****es were raging on dc modem now its there turn, they got the broadband you don\'t.

only thing ps2 can one up xbox in is traditonal rpgs but i haven\'t seen that many on ps2 or in the
near future.

heres to hoping final fantasy gets rid of that magically sucking you in every few feet you walk and actuly has the enemys showing.

Jiggs There are a ton of reasons to dislike Microsoft beyond them being American. I don\'t mind MS and the Xbox and will probably pick one up someday, but under 0 circumstances do I want Xbox to dominate, it would be a huge step backwards and send a message to console makers that I\'d rather not see.

that message would be "Lets just make our consoles out of PC components". Gamecube has done it with Mac based PowerPC processor and ATI GPU, Xbox uses a PIII and Nvidia GPU.

I\'ll be supporting Sony the most for this reason alone, say what you will but its the hardware that opens up the possibilites to innovation,

I most likely will pick up that 2nd console and I will wait to see which one truly offers what I want Xbox or GC, most likely it will be Xbox

YOU NAZTI CONSOLE BASTARD! Whoa thats a bit harsh dont you think? I will remember that when I am playing GT3 and Drakan 2(The first one was awesome!) Thanks. Hamster I do Believe everyone is closed minded to something and in this case I believe the Japanese are closed minded to american gaming intrests. For example the Japanese resistance of American PC\'s which would promote PC gaming over there and would help american developers here is non-existent.(Ps2 is suppose to fill that nitch) Sony now is making PC\'s available here in mass numbers they see the potential. Everquest anyone? They are covering all bases. However when an american based company(MS not withstanding, but who else in the US could pull this off?) trys its hand in the gaming world is hated and shot down. PC gaming is big in europe and we get games like Sea Dogs(Russian) and Longest Journey(Swedish) dont forget Ground Control. They could help us out a little more dont you think? The Japanese are great game makers but we are getting better all we need is a chance.

It\'s true unfortunatly, it is true that Japanese people hate American products. ANd dont say it is because they are better products because that is simply not true.

I would love to see X-Box do well in all areas, dominating overall with ANY console will be bad. I would love to see X-Box beat everything slightly in Japan so that the Japanese could get a real taste of American products and not have everything fail (al la Atari anything).

Actually the Japanese love Nike

and they dig McDonalds, and have lots of Denny\'s. There is a Ford Manufacturing plant in Hiroshima although I never actually saw many if any Fords on the road. I did see a Harley Davidson in Nagoya, the dude spent a ton importing the thing

They are more patriotic towards there own products, but thats changing.

Honda is the best made car fo the money. My parents put 318,000 miles on their older accord, and the one before went 280k! Nothing went out except for the clutch on both had to be eplaced after about 200k.

But really, what would you rather have; a \'68 Camaro with a 427, or a Mitsubishi 3000GT? It\'s all about speed versus style to most people. Personally, I think the Camaro beats the pants off of everything!

My dream car: black on black \'68 Camaro with a 427(or a 450 if I could afford one), everything maxed out (too much engine detail to state here :)), 18" wide Slicks on them! (they are illegal, but who is gonna catch me in that!)

Actually, the japanese buy quite a few products from us.  Denim Jeans, and other clothes,  Some cars, Alot of PC components and software.  MOVIES, jesus christ japanese movies suck... well most of them (anime discluded).  And probably some other stuff I didn\'t think of.

its a dream car of course  butttt

The 428Shelby Cobra Jet was a one of the fastest American production cars to be made during that era.

Caroll Shelby was  allowed to tweak the 428 cobra jet of I believe 200 cars tomake it an official production car. They put the 68\' Fastback on the dragstrips and it blew away most everyone. If you had one of these it probably be worth well over $100,000

so yes I\'m a dreamer,

I will however put up my 1988 rusty door 135,000 mile chevy celebrity up against ya, she\'s peppy

What?
The DC doesn\'t get PS2 ports. It has gotten PS ports, if you count the Resident EVIL 2 & 3 / Dino Crisis ordeal. But, as for PS2 ports. I can\'t think of any PS2 games that have went to the DC.

And it depends on the game. EA games that are nothing but ports always sell alot. Also if the game is hyped alot with enough extras it will sell. You can count on Resident Evil : CV for PS2 selling alot (which is a port of a DC game!).

Still. . . A port of another game cannot sell systems alone. They need some original titles and they will have those.

This is speculation Chrono, I expect better from you.  Reserve your judgement until E3.  Just because you don\'t know any Xbox exclusives doesn\'t mean there aren\'t any.  The "portbox" argument has gotten a bit stale and it holds as much water as a pair of fishnet panties.  Xbox has MANY unique exclusives, but they won\'t reveal them until GameStock.  Do you have proof that Xbox is going to have "only ports"?  If you do, I would like to see it.

Reinventing the wheel is not innovation.  PS2 belongs in a lab, not in your living room.  What are these "possibilities for innovation" that you talk about?  I\'ve heard that so many times, but no one has yet to elaborate on that bold statement.  I don\'t want to play test tube games.  I want to play innovative games that build on what developers already know.  As long as I have a totally realistic sports or racing game that plays well, I don\'t care what methods the programmers use!  What new things does PS2 offer for me???  I\'m no developer, I can care less how many vector units I can sync at a time or how efficiently I can use the bandwidth and the 4MB of VRAM.  Who cares?  I want games that look and play pretty.  That\'s the reason we play games.  Forget the low-level stuff for a minute.  PS2 is nice for labs at MIT, but I don\'t want to be paying $50 bucks for a developer\'s experiment.  It\'s time for developers to start building better stories and gameplay right now and stop trying to learn while they create.  I don\'t think Beethoven wrote a concerto during a concert.  He learned and then he created.  Film studios don\'t build the cameras while shooting the movie.  The use what they already have and focus on making a better plot and storyline.  Microsoft realizes that and they don\'t give a hoot about "new methods" just better content.  That\'s what developers should focus on and that\'s all I care about.

You head is so far up Microsofts ass that you could not see it even if it killed you!

Let me start by saying this

The ps2 is the first console with
1.) Back-Compatiblity (well, as MM said the atari had it but see # 6)
2.) 2 USB ports
3.) Firewire (ILINK)
4.) Truely expandable console, with major plans
5.) DVD playback out of the box.
6.) to play your older games better
7.) modern design
8.) pressure sensative buttons
9.) DVD medium
10.) The first have ethernet/hardrive (sorry, they will be out before your x-box)

Ok, now lets look at #2
what do you think USB ports are for dummy, are you that stupid to not know what these are. Unlike the x-box they are standard.. which also means that you can use them for any USB perhapable that a dev wants, such as a USB camera, webcam or anything you can imagine. You CANNOT do this with the x-box. Need I go over firewall for your petty mind?
I won\'t go much further cause i\'m busy and need not waist any more time on your biased mind, beacuse no matter what you will not change.
All Members, please ignore what he says... or better yet, just don\'t read it!

In any argument, the first man to resort to personal insults is the first to lose.  Hey Chrono, a USB port is a USB port, for Xbox you\'ll just have to buy an Xbox USB device, that\'s all...at least this insures that all perepherals will work on the Xbox...can\'t guarantee that with PS2.  Bleem just keeps proving that backwards compatability doesn\'t mean squat.  I don\'t think I\'m being presumtous when I say that there will be a BleemBox PSX emulator for Xbox (with better graphics I might add).  DVD playback isn\'t an innovation for games and for the price of a remote, you can have it for the Xbox.  IEEE 1394 (FireWire) is basically useless for a console, but then again, PS2 isn\'t a console it\'s a PERSONAL COMPUTER entertainment system.  If you want to connect a second HDD or your Sony Camcorder up to your PS2, that\'s fine.  However, all I care about are the GAMES.  Sure, PS2 has a "modern design" just like that old Atari computer that it looks like ( :D I\'m just having fun with you now...I\'m not even going to try and convince you that it\'s wrong).  Over 5000 modern gamers worldwide chose the Xbox design, so it must be modern.  Truly expandable...oh boy.  So you really want a PS2 upgrade ala the 32X?  Well, I\'ll be dumbfounded!  Oh boy...that one snuck up on me. Major plans, eh?  I\'m sure Sega had major plans with the SegaCD and 32X.  In a few words, don\'t bank on Sony crucifying themselves by releasing a PS2 upgrade.  Xbox also has all pressure sensitive buttons (except the "Start" and "Back" buttons of course), so score one more for the Xbox.  What\'s next?  DVD medium, eh?  Well, sorry but score one more for the Xbox...all games will be on DVD (you didn\'t think that you needed DVD movie playback to play games, did you?  One word: Research.  You should try it). The PS2 plays older games better?  Sorry, but the Dreamcast does it EVEN BETTER and I\'m sure you already read my BleemBox statement.  HDD and Ethernet, eh?  That\'s nice.  I wonder how many developers like a SEGREGATED MARKET.  Congrats Chrono, you just bought yourself two novelty items.  Words of wisdom: If it ain\'t in every PS2, it won\'t be used to great effect.

By matching you pound for pound and feature to feature, the Reverend thus proved that the PS2 won\'t be bringing anything new or innovative technology wise.  Games wise?  Well, that\'s a possibility.  PS2 will have it\'s share of great games, but as far as technology is concerned, it has nothing that Xbox can\'t match (or better for that matter).  All you want to do is argue and that\'s it.  I had fun with this one.  I actually thought you would THINK this out before you posted, but alas you have disappointed me again.

Bah you people wont know what hit you.

XBox, over priced, port machine, nothing new.
PS2, well people will start to leave it soon. To dificult to make games for. Will have same games as XBox. Disapointing.

NGC: Better get one of this;)

You guys are just too goofy. Did your brother die and now you need someone to fight with? What a bunch of retards.

I have a Genesis, N-64, PSX, DC, PS2, and I will get the XBox too,,, and probably even the GC. Let me just say for the record, "THEY ALL HAVE GREAT GAMES!!!!"

So just get the system you like and play the hell outta it. Stop bickering. You sound like a bunch of little babies and I\'m about ready to spank your little bottoms :)

Not everybody can afford to buy all consoles. You also say they all have great games... well why would I buy an x-box when I can play all the other games elsewhere first?
Well all know nintendo will have at least 3 great games, but what does x-box have?
what exclusive games besides oddworld do they have... well anyway.

Bleem just keeps proving that backwards compatability doesn\'t mean squat.

?, man that is one STUPID statement... what on earth does that mean anyway? On what console can you get bleem anyway?

Hey Chrono, a USB port is a USB port, for Xbox you\'ll just have to buy an Xbox USB device, that\'s all...at least this insures that all perepherals will work on the Xbox...can\'t guarantee that with PS2.

This also means you have to pay alot more cause there is less options to choose from... Another tatic to make more money by MS... thats all they care about it seems

Quote
I don\'t think I\'m being presumtous when I say that there will be a BleemBox PSX emulator for Xbox (with better graphics I might add).

It will not work on all games, above you were complaining that the USB perhaples would not work, what a contradictory person... LOL

DVD playback isn\'t an innovation for games and for the price of a remote, you can have it for the Xbox.

Yep, go buy it, at least I have a choice to use my controller, you don\'t. MS just wants more money..

Over 5000 modern gamers worldwide chose the Xbox design, so it must be modern.

another WTF is he saying... only 5000 gamers like the x-box design... how sad!

Quote
Truly expandable...oh boy.  So you really want a PS2 upgrade ala the 32X?  Well, I\'ll be dumbfounded!

Yep, I would rather have a choice, something I don\'t have with MS, what if something were to go bad?

IEEE 1394 (FireWire) is basically useless for a console, but then again, PS2 isn\'t a console it\'s a PERSONAL COMPUTER entertainment system.  If you want to connect a second HDD or your Sony Camcorder up to your PS2, that\'s fine

hmm, so you mean the x-box is not a peronsal computer cause you say it is... it has a hardrive and ethernet adaptor

In my post I said sony was the first to come up with it... but you try to defend it anyway and brag more... damn are you REALLY that bias?

WTF?!!!?
Where can I get it!!
ohh, wait it was delayed again.. ROFL!

Yep, you once again prooved the x-box has done nothing new and brought nothing new to the console indsusty... damn I love how you try to ignore the case at hand... what a lamer. I THINK HE NEEDS THAT PIC AGAIN... ROFL!

Okay, what the hell, I\'m bored anyway:

First of all, there is nothing wrong with being a little patriotic and yelling "buy American".

Secondly, someone *****ing about Japanese does not necessarily make them a racist. It just makes them a nationalist, or rather a specific anti-nationalist (not liking people from one country). As long as he doesn\'t have a problem with other Asians in general.

Third, when those bastards (who just happen to be Japanese) stop throwing our rice grower representatives out of the Japanese rice Expo every year cause how dare we grow better rice than them and then try to sell it to them,,, then I\'ll be a little more receptive to their isolationist asses.

Fourth, Americans didn\'t invent isolationizm and prejudice. The Japanese did thousands of years before and then they redefined it after we blew the hell outta a couple of their cities.

Fifth, If they wanted any loyalty outta me then they shoulda shipped more PS2s here in October. I didn\'t get mine till 1/1/01 and lots of others still don\'t have them.

Now stop quoting me and let me get some sleep :)
