Title: Invention greater than the PC and internet coming?

http://www.inside.com/jcs/Story?article_id=20218&pod_id=8

what could this IT or "Ginger" be?...by the quotes and hints it sounds like some sort of new way of transportation...,could it be a energy source cleaner and better than anything out there? and maybe even last forever with-out a refill?...could it be hover craft?....teleportation machine?....be afraid...startrek is coming true..my god..i thought i would never see this in my life...

BUT..if it some new kind of energy or transportation...you can bet exxonmobil texaco..ect..etc will call their dog(george w bush) to get rid of the intruder....

should wait til 2004 when GORE wins:D

damn, can\'t wait until 2002

Hmm.
Steve Jobs is in on it.
Its gonna be cool.:)

I wonder if it\'s those damn flying cars we were promised 30 years ago but never recieved?

Er, maybe not. It would be cool if what they were talking about had something to do with those quantum teleportation demonstrations at Cal-Tech and Innsbruck Michael Crichton wrote about in his book Timeline. That definately would have serious impacts on the way corperations carry out buisness and all but put the shipping companies out of buisness. (Which would make life easier on all of us, expecially those who have to share the highway with them)

It could be vaporware also. It would be nice if it was based on quantum physics. Anyone remember the show Quantum Leap? Yeah...It ruled:)

Hahaha!!  I still love this (http://www.adcritic.com/content/ibm-why-no-flying-cars-why-why-why.html) commercial by IBM on the subject.  Cracks me up each time I see it.

As for the invention, it better not be some stupid new special browser like AOL which has all these useless customizations and blah blah blah...

they are saying some pretty serious stuff about it...steve jobs got apple out of the grave..should we trust his word?

either way, if IT is what i think IT is(and you guys already meantioned it) then....expect HEAVY resistance from many large corporations asking goverment(aka:big brother) to never let us use it....if that\'s the case, we do not deserve this mans invention.

I know! Its an Oxegyn C02 Convering SEX DROID!!!
An invention like that would definatley be as significant as the PC and would change the world like the Internet did. ANd its sure to make its inventior FILTHY RICH!:)489v7n5967!!

Yeah I saw that too.I\'m think it\'s some sort of a transprotation thingie a new car something.I just want to know what it is.grrrrr:mad:
And yes Steve (blow)Jobs got Apple out of the grave but he is also an arrogant bastard and it\'s about time for him to step down. All I can say is bring back Woz

Sounds VERY interesting... Ginger.. why Ginger? :)

Hmmm... could it be some kind of teleportation device? I thought of the codename "Metro" ( the other model )...

and if it\'s so secret it\'ll have to be something revolutionary...

and to Sonyfan... hover-cars are going to mass-marketing soon. Inside ten years, so I\'ve heard... the prototypes have been made and tested, now they just wait a good time to start mass-marketing the revolutionary product... the first models will cost a lot...

Hmmm... I haven\'t heard much of them but they\'re called very simply "skycars".

Even the news here showed some video on the testings... looked really interesting.. flying cars...

Yeah Cygnus I heard about that. But some guy calculated that it might take more energy than our sun produces in it\'s entire life to form a stable warp field.
They have also made a very crude transporter. They were able to transport 2 photons from one room to the next.

I think it is a tranporter or something a long those lines. The articles says that new cities will have to be built around these devices and that there is going to be a consumer version also. I am going to ask around MIT and Harvard to see if I can find out anything about it.

BTW, I know a lot of researchers at those two schools. I was going to go into robotics and/or AI in college and spent time there during High School. It was like an internship (sort of)

Is that source you gave us, Cygnus, for real? I mean... Warp drives etc. Sounds too Star Trek to me :)

Interesting if there\'s even a bean of truth hidden in that text...

Very interesting indeed...

You\'re correct also Noone, but like the text said, there has been discovered a new source of power. Hmmm... when do the photon-torpedoes come? The future is beginning to look Trekky... Star Trekky...

If you, Cygnus, have another hidden source-taps please post them here. I\'m very interested on these rumors and fact-phased science...

pffft photon torpidoes are the past give me quantum torpidoes:D
And I\'ve heard about ppl that were trying to make anti matter.Think how cool that would be.But if something went wrong the results would far worse than Hiroshima x10.

Well, do a search using Yahoo. You can find some iiiiinteresting stuff out there.

Some key words to use..:

anti-gravity
tesla
teleportation
zero point energy

...you get the drift.

Alot of what you find is...well...wacko. You do find some stuff that has merit though.

Happy hunting:)

Most indications point to some sort of a motorized scooter. There is a drawing that was submitted with the patent, and that is what it was, it had wheels. The thing about it is that it is supposed be compact, and efficient, so everyone can use it almost anywhere.

Looks to be that Ginger is nothing more then a new version of the scooter. ZDNET done a thing on it even. Hmm..Bummer

Dammit, does anyone read with comprehension? :D

zdnet did not say that \'IT\' was a scooter. In fact no one has said what \'IT\' is but many people have speculated on what \'IT\' could be. In fact I think that even if the scooter has something to do with \'IT\' the revolutionary thing is the technology behind it. Another inventor that has seen \'IT\' said, "If I invented metal and made a spoon, What would be more revolutionary the metal or the spoon?" You guys need to think about this quote. It gives a lot of insight on the impact that \'Ginger\' will have.

I just saw a link on Arstechnica.It\'s a press release from that Kamen guy.

Quote
"We have a promising project, but nothing of the Earth-shattering nature that people are conjuring up," Dean Kamen, president of Manchester, New Hampshire-based DEKA Research, said in a statement referring to one of his forthcoming inventions.

And a few days ago (when the forums were still down) I was reading another forum and some guy pointed out some thing that Nostradamus said."That a new invention that would change the world would come in the dawn of the new century but the 3rd antichrist would use it to start a 45 year war"

I don\'t know about you but that is scary.

Actually Joyda, there\'s a lot of trekky stuff being worked on as we speak. In fact, I recall a Nova special where scientists were actually showing off a working Tricorder. Of course they didn\'t call it that, and it\'s functionality was extreemly limited. It could detect objects and their approximate dimensions and mass from a corresponding room. Hey, ya gotta start somewhere. I think the reason why we\'re seeing so much trekky type technology being mentioned is because Gene Roddenberry went to great lengths to actually put science in his science fiction. We\'re just seeing some of those old scientific theories becoming realized and proven.

Back to IT, if "IT" is just a scooter, then I\'m going to be pissed. Whole cities built around it? An overnight sensation? Syeah.. Right. Hell even flying cars wouldn\'t catch on all that quickly. (Face it, there\'s too many red blooded americans & gearheads who love to tweak their "old fashioned" automobiles) At least, nowhere near as quickly as a teleporter would. In today\'s society, the ability to have products shipped instantaniously would be irresistable to large corperations. Whole cities WOULD have to be built around it. Just imagine the impact on factories alone.. You\'d work on a part, doing your job, then sticking it in a teleporter and having it zapped clear across the globe to another factory for the next step in the assembly line. Hell you wouldn\'t even NEED a factory, you could do your job from your home. And lets not forget it\'s military applications. (Instantanious delivery of increadibly large nuclear payloads to their targets before the opposing force could launch a counter strike... scary.)

BTW: The next war will not last 45 years, expecially if America is involved. Even in the time of the sword & sheild when it tooks weeks to months for word of attack or surrender to reach the troops, wars didn\'t last that long. A nuclear device or biological weapon would be unleased long before that, and that would be the start of World War III and the end of humanity as we know it. Remember what Einstein said? "I do not know how WWIII will be fought, but do I know how WWIV would be fought. With Sticks and Rocks."

I think it could be the resurection of Gerri Halliwell\'s career, formally \'Ginger\' Spice from the spice girls!

Or how\'s about a mobile home for the homless?  I mean they did talk about assembling stuff out of cardboard boxes?

What about a personal satelite, great for communications faster net access etc..

Sonyfan: in regards to the war not being 45 years, have you forgotten the recent elections?  It took america weeks to just choose a leader.

I have to laugh...HAHAHAHAH..Hohohoheheheheheee.:):)

All these so called "News" people falling for this "It could be that scooter thingy that he applied for a patent for". Hahaha.

I saw the patent, as they did, at the patent offices web-site. Guess what all you college edumacated news people? That site says that it is accurate as of OCTOBER OF 2000!!

That\'s right. C\'mon. For one, with all the secrecy going on within Kamens orginization, do they really think the average joe schmoe could search the patent office site and blow the lid off this thing?

Also, my bet is that Kamen disguised his patent (if he even applied for one yet) by either using someone elses name or burying it under some inconspiquous title (like alternate lift mechanic, or so).

I garuntee you all. There is NO WAY this scooter is the ginger. Period.

Agreed Cygnus there is no way it could be a scooter.A new form of transportation maybe.A new type of energy scource maybe. The bottom line is that we don\'t know.
Although it would be cool as hell if it was a warp drive, transporter, tricorder, phaser or a way to tap into zero point energy.

OOOhhh. I can\'t wait!!

Not fair, hinting at "IT" and then telling us to wait until 2002. Damn!

At least when I was waiting for the PS2 to come out I KNEW what it was.

I would love it to be a device that uses either a new form of energy, or defies/bends some law of physics.:)

I see your point Cygnus :)

But only a year to go... still, I\'m not waiting "it" so much because I don\'t know what it is. It could be just disappointment, or then it could be something revolutionary.

I\'m waiting for MGS2 because I know when it will be released and I know what it will be like. I\'m waiting for Lord of the rings -trilogy because I exactly know what they are about and when they come out.

So I agree with you Cygnus ;)

It will be an alternative to products that are dirty, expensive, sometimes dangerous and often frustrating, especially for people in the cities.

The invention will also likely require \'\'meeting with city planners, regulators, legislators, large commercial companies and university presidents about how cities, companies and campuses can be retro-fitted for Ginger.\'\'
...........................................................

has too be some sort of transit.

remember it said it was assembled with a screw driver and wrench.  plus it got laughs... why would you laugh?

can someone tell me when you use "to" and when you use "too" in a sentence?

to - going TO the store
too - pamela anderson: oh my god richard (me) it\'s TOO big.  right? :)
