Title: GT3 5000 polys per car-Test drive lemans 8000 polys per car?
Post by: jiggs on January 10, 2001, 06:32:44 PM
GT3 looks fantastic(I have the demo)however Test drive lemans has 8000 polys per car? How is that possible? I have the game and for the DC its incredible. The weather effects are unreal and the sense of speed is fantastic but the high poly count seems a little how can I say is hard to believe. The car models in TDL are great heck the break pads even light up but 8000 I would have thought the PS2 could do better than that. TDL is no GT3 but I did not think the DC could handle that high of a poly count.

i don\'t know why, ask sony about the raw polygons and then ask them what\'s the actual polygons with \'all\' effects on.

Ok first TD:LM while a very good looking game, the cars aren\'t made up of 8000 polys, let alone 5000. Probably somewhat close to around 3k I\'m betting. Anyway even IF that number true then Melbourne House\'s 3dartists should be fired:)

But I think the DC near the end of it\'s life will be able to handle counts of 6-8M IMO.

Well I have LeMans..aside from being a crappy game, the graphics are nothing to shout about. It\'s hardly anything close to the photorealistic image quality of GT3.

Even if it were true that Test Drive Le Mans had 8k polys per car and GT3 5k, there are two things you must remember.  TDLM runs at 30fps while GT3 runs at 60, if I\'m correct.  Also, the reflection effect in Gran Turismo 3 I suspect is a similar to a clip plane effect, which would add 1-5k more polys per frame.

A crappy game?  It is the best racing game ever.  The graphics are also the best yet in a racing game.  With over 20 cars on screen at once with no slowdown and amazing AI and handling, how can you say it is crappy?  You must really suck at it or just not like racing games.

Oh yeah, the cars in TD:LM are supposed to have 4000 polygons not 8000.
Title: question for jiggs or anyone who has played GT3
Post by: on January 10, 2001, 08:49:50 PM
Does GT3 have any anti-aliasing? I just got done playing RidgeRacerV for the last time on my ps2. It has so many jaggies that it looks like crap and stops being fun to play.

I hope they have found a way around this for GT3. It seems that the view angle from a car mixed with the vanishing point and all of the other horizontal geometry in racing games creates a lot of jaggies unless some form of anti-aliasing is used.

Yes it is a crappy game. I hate the handling of the game. Best graphics for a racing game yet??? LOL. You must have been seriously deprived of other games on other platforms or you\'re just living in a jungle.

btw, for the record, I\'ve about 4 racing games on the DC(Speed Devil, MSR, LeMans, Daytona 2001) and countless racing games on the PC & PSX with all sorts of steering wheels and pedals to boot.

What racing game looks better and what is wrong with the handling?  There are three setting to choose from, you don\'t like any of them?  What, do you like arcade handling where you never have to let off the gas?  As I said, in TD:LM there can be over 20 cars on screen with the same amount of detail and there is no slowdown.  The way the weather changes while racing, on half the track it is raining while the other half it isn\'t.  The way the sun goes down and the lights on the cars come on, the detail in not only the cars but the tracks is amazing.  The AI fights for position, if you rub them you can bet they will do the same.  I also have Daytona 2001, MSR, Speed Devils Online, F355, Sega GT, Sega Rally, GT1&2, NFS:HS, NFS:PU, and many others and none of them looks as good as TD:LM.  NFS:PU on the PC looks good, but it still isn\'t as good looking as TD:LM.

The sega advocates need to put their oh so sweet crack-pipe down a minuet...thank you.

TD cars have at the very most 2500 polygons.....it has 20 cars(never on screen not even close) and runs at a pathetic 30fps....

GT3 smokes this games graphics hands down, what with 5000-7000 polygon car models, real-time enviromental-mapping, real-time lighting....TD looks like a snes game next to GT3.

Yet you\'ve never played either.  At the beginning of every race there is a pan over all the cars, then when the race starts you can see all the cars ahead of you, if you start in last that is.  Also, if you\'ve played the game you would\'nt even care that it is running at 30fps, you probably couldn\'t even tell, because it plays so damn good.

GT3 has AA, when I played I saw very few if any jaggies.

NPlayer, stop acting like a tool.  Your post is littered with false statements all because of your bias.

First of all what is so pathetic about 30fps?  Do you not play any games on your PSOne or N64 because they are 30fps?  What about your PS2 games, many of them run at 30fps also.

What separates Lemans from many other 30fps (and even some 60fps games) is that it has NO SLOWDOWN.  Also, the sense of speed is incredible which you don\'t get in many 60fps games out there (F355 AND GT3 come to mind).

Get your head out of Sony\'s ass and think before you write.

I\'m not trying to push the game on anyone, I am just pointing out the facts about the game that some people want to twist around.

You are basically saying your opinion is fact?? Hhmmm...then mine (and everyone\'s else) is pretty much FACTUAL as well.

The FACT is LeMans is nothing I\'ve never seen before and basically, the image quality of GT3 just blows it out of the water regardless of polygon counts.

So there.
