On a releated note here\'s more info about the demo

The demo version of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty that will be packaged with Zone of Enders this March contains a ton of gameplay, giving players a chance to explore Kojima\'s much-anticipated mulleted masterpiece. In fact, according to Weekly Famitsu, it takes an hour to complete the demo of MGS2 even when playing it fast as possible. The demo will contain four modes: New Game, Previous Story, Special and Option.

New Game is where you get to actually try out the gameplay of MGS2. Before you start the game, you can select from five difficulty levels: Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard and Very Hard. At the highest difficulty level, merely being discovered by the enemy will end the game. Additionally, there are three radar options: Type 1 (Radar on even during interludes), Type 2 (Radar off during interludes) and Off (Which turns off the radar completely, duh). The combination of Very Hard and Radar Off should challenge even the most hardcore MGS player, considering that the enemies are very intelligent in this game -- they will work in teams of two to three to snuff you out. You play a section of the game in which Snake infiltrates an enemy tanker and proceeds to stealthily kick ass.

The Previous Story mode is where you can read up on the Metal Gear Solid story. Maybe you missed out on the PlayStation classic, or possibly you need a refresher course on all that political intrigue. Catching up on Snake\'s last adventure will help you to better understand the events of MGS2.

Special Mode allows you to check out 32 different moves that Snake can execute -- more than half of the moves are brand-spanking new. This mode is broken up into three sections (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) and each section lists the specific moves that you can watch Snake perform.

Beginner
Walk/Run
Punch/Kick
Strangle
Throw
Behind Camera 1 (allows you to look around the corner from a third person perspective)
Behind Camera 2
Peek
First Person Mode Attack
First Person Mode Punch
First Person Mode Side Step
Open/Close Water Tight Hatches (a.k.a Dogging down the hatch)
Climb
Dive Roll
Hit Wall
Interlude Camera

Intermediate
Although Famitsu did not list all the actions that you can see in the Intermediate mode, they did mention that there are a total of eight moves in this section. Moves in the Intermediate section include: canceling contact with allies when discovered by enemies, evading enemy searches by hiding in a variety of places (like lockers and air vents), and hanging off of ledges (while attacking enemies below).

Advanced
There are a total of nine moves in this section, with uber-cool moves like shooting at a fire hydrant to create a smoke screen, using enemies as a body shield after you capture them, Dive Attack, Use Item (1), and Use Item (2).

In the Option mode, you can set five different variables to your liking, including Vibration (on/off), Caption (on/off), Blood (on/off), Camera Control (Normal/Reverse) and Sound (Stereo/Mono). Because this is the demo version, the options of the final version may be different -- such as being able to control more sound options, and perhaps even language selection.

On another related note here\'s HK owns words about the demo

Dengeki PlayStation got a chance to talk to Hideo Kojima, the producer of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, about the demo version of the game that will come with Zone of Enders, scheduled for release in March. (You can check out the details of what\'s in the demo.)

Kojima explained in the interview that the full version would be very different from what\'s on the demo:

This time, we want to reflect the opinions of the users, because it was the users that made MGS a triple A title...we are going to listen to the responses we will get from the demo version, and tweak the game accordingly.
Basically, the trial version is still a prototype game -- it is not a snippet from the final game:

Basically, we put together the skeletal system of the game and put it in the demo...we wanted to display the skeletal structure so that we can hear the opinions of gamers...we want to hear about the details.
Kojima also explained that playing MGS2 will involve learning new skills, which fans of the previous series might have some trouble with:

We made the game so that it\'s very difficult to finish [the demo] unless you use the first-person view often. For example, in attacking enemies, simply locking-on from the normal view [the third-person view] will allow you to hit them, but if you want to aim for more specific parts of the body, you have to aim using the first-person view. This may not be limited to the first-person mode -- the new moves in this game may be more easily learned and implemented by beginners [to the MGS series]. People who really got into the previous game tend to rely on their experience [and only use tactics that were available in the previous games] to counteract the enemy.
There are other changes in MGS2 that will change the way people react to certain situations. In the previous game, as soon as an enemy guard spots you, an alarm will sound and enemies will come after you in droves. However, in MGS2, if the guard who spots you is all alone, you have several options, such as taking him out before he has a chance to call for assistance, destroying his radio so that he cannot communicate with the other guards, shooting the fire hydrant to hide your getaway, pound the enemy and stick him in a locker, and so on. You can use the situation and circumstances to your advantage. However, with so many choices, Kojima comments that it makes the game that much harder to create:

For example, if there are three ways to get away from the enemies, but only one is fun, then the other two are useless. That\'s why I intend to make it so that every option is entertaining. In fact, to the point where each user will have their own favorite, and proclaim, "My way is the best way!"

Crap if the demo is only a prototype an it isn\'t even a part of the final game then they want to get public opinion and tweak the game accordingly then I can\'t see a Fall 2001 release.I think they might delay it untill around Spring 2002 if this is true.

Sorry if I busted anyone\'s bubble but I just had to point that out.

WOW, If the demo is an hour long, imagine how long the full game must be.

BTW, It would suck if the game was only 2 hours long. :D

Hideo Kojima has stated that they\'re aiming for a 15 hour game, but that it was just an estimate. He also said that he didn\'t particularly enjoy long games.

He also said that you can finish Metal Gear 2 with killing anyone.

How can this be done :D

Macabre - Im pretty sure that is the case, it will allow more flexibility in animation as well as taking up less space than conventional animation methods for 3d models.

Is it just me, or is ZOE looking a lot like AC2? I just got AC2 and i  must say, this game kicks ass! But after AC2 I dont feel the need to go grab ZOE (even if it means not playing the MGS2 demo) besides, i just picked up MGS for PSX. So i have plenty of gaming ahead of me. :D

It\'s not just you, but it reminds me even more of Omega Boost. Exact same kinda lock-on missiles and stuff... I loved Omega Boost so this can\'t be bad. Just add melée fighting with freakin\' huge lightsabers and stuff. Ace :D

don\'t count on it, if it\'s on the demodisk, than it\'s gonna be a non-playable one, probably that ten minutes long trailer, just think about it, konami puts the playable demo with zoe, they would be stupid to put it on a free to get demodisk, cause putting t with zoe helps selling zoe a lot
