I cant believe the amout of games out there that suffer from slowdown. This is NONSENCE that a system this powerfull cant handle the polys some of these launch game have. I know its because the software companys rushed their games to make launch, and I am pointing a BIG finger at EA!
Almost ALL of there games LAG! NHL 2001 is horrible for this reason (not to mention that you can score form center ice on a dump in on a Regular basis). So is FIFA soccer, SSX also has slow game play at times. The only bright spot is Madden 2001. What really pisses me off is that these games are like $50 each!
How can they put such a shoddy product out there and expext us to pay $50 for it.
Screw that! Ill be RENTING. And One more thing. A message to EA. GET IT RIGHT NEXT TIME BEFORE YOU SHIP US CRAP!
As for Sony, I am selling my PS2 as SOON as X-Box hits.
Ill keep my PX1 (at least that has some FUN games)
But screw the PX2. Sony did ua wrong. You all should see that.
From the shortage to most of the systems not working on launch, to the half AZZed games.
Cant wait to ditch it!
See ya soon X-Box!

It\'s not a problem with hardware you twit... it is a problem in software... All of the launch games were done on incomplete kits... without much understanding of the system itself. The PS2 is hard to program... that is for sure. But don\'t get that confused with lack of potential.

Don\'t even reply to this. Moron.

It is not so much the PS2 as it is game design. Almost all games have slowdown at one point or another. It takes a lot of resources to keep your games looking pretty.
BTW, There will be slowdown on the Gamecube and X-Box. It just happens. I say give it a couple more months before you disown it.
-
Slowdown does suck, but its more software dirven thus far
Architexture is new it will take time to master
Games like Onimusha, GT3, ZOE and more should all be running smoothly
SSX ran great with only slight drops in framerate
-
Haven\'t we put this behind us yet? c\'mon...
For me, I put alot of money down to get my PS2
but I have faith in it.
You shouldn\'t flame Sony nor the PS2 hardware
just because you think EA wanted to make fast
cash and sell crappy games.
Cool down Gman2.

i have yet to suffer from slow down noticable enough for me to whine about
they only time i notic slowdown is at a low point in a game and it seems to be loading more information to kepp the game looking good
in ssx it happens like once a session and its barely noticable
tekken tag has almost none if any(havent experiance any myself)
you must also realize these are LAUNCH GAMES
every system has problems to begin with bugs have to be worked out its kind of a learning curve how is anybody supposed to know how this machionee is going to behave when nothing else on earth comes near it?
and i dare you to say other systems dont have slowdown Every DC(soon to be dust collector) game i own has slowdown even the great jet grind radio has some an in places its really bad
some PC games barely run unless you have a million dollar graphics card(motocross madness 2 anyone?)
so please unless you are informed and have more of a reason than 1/8 of the games out now remain silent
-
SSX has nothing to moan about. And don\'t judge the playstation 2 by its launch games!
Please, because that\'s a stupid thing to do.
Bouncer runs smooth and is great candy for your eyes for exmpl.

I see, You must be some of the people who paid $600 on E-bay for your systems, and are still trying to convince yourselves that it is a good system.
Keep telling yourselve\'s that and maybe you will believe it.
I know better.
Besides, I know it is the software, but Sony still has a responsibility to make sure the games they are putting their LOGO on are good quality games. Not just rush jobs.
If X-Box learns from Sony\'s mistakes it destroy this thing.
-
umm, Gman2 I\'m not such a person who bought it at ebay.
I live in the Netherlands , Europe. We pay big tax on
consumer electronics. Cost me 1149 DFL about $500.

So far.. MS is making enough mistakes themselfs. Hype box is gonna have a LOT of work to get as popular as ps2.
As for slowdown, It\'s been from crappy developement. Being the crappy libaries. Developers had too make there own. Not knowning how ps2 works. They didn\'t really use the vector units. Or the EE at it\'s fullest.
I don\'t understand why people think this system won\'t overcome this problem.. It pretty much has now. Some launch games had troubles.. TTT didn\'t, That game pushes 10.000 polys per model.
I\'m sure ps2 will be fine.
-
Or Probably its just the PAL PS2 which is slower from the NTSC PS2:D
-
Yea i have not experienced any slowdown in any of my games yet
well not enough to where i quit playing or got upset
so i had to go post about it on a forum and tell everyone they are dumb for being satisfied.
-
Has to be your Television format I have all the games your talking about and I have absolutely no slowdown at all! Nhl does slowdown a little bit when crossing the middle of the rink but it\'s still extremely playable!
-
it\'s called PS2 not PX2
-
what slow down?
i have played all of those games except madden and I don\'t notice any slow down at all.
to be honest i was blown away from the frame rates i was constantly getting.
-
You MORONS would be happy if someone sold you a bag of SH!T and told you it was cool.
G.
WILLIE HEARS YA, WILLIE DONT CARE.
-
I haven´t notice about slow-downs, my god!!! they´re only in the first games, do you think GT3, Tekken 4, FFX, MGS2, SH2... will have slowdowns? xDDD
-
Lol Gman 2, you seem to have issues. :)
You\'d better stop before making an even bigger fool out of yourself.
-
so if you hate PS2 and us so much, why don\'t leave this site when you haven\'t made a COMPLETE clown of yourself.. soon you will have...
well, I think you won\'t care, but anyways... you have my warning...
-
Sell it dude....it\'ll be YOUR loss, as for me and the hundreds of other members of this site, we\'ll be keeping ours and I will be supporting it to the fullest

I bet you don\'t even own a PS2.

Hmm i have to AGREE and DISAGREE
I agree with GMAN that slowdown is not on at all, even if they are launch titles, i also agree that some of you like the "I have NEVER seen slow down in my games" people are just sticking up for something because of the money you paid.
I personally paid quite a bit and am a tad disapointed.
I also think all the crappy insults is a bit, hmm, playgroundish.
I do however think the PS2 will get over it when the programming does improve and we should be treated to some great games. So GMAN why don\'t you hang onto your PS2 a little longer and give it a chance ?
-
Where are these slowdowns? I have never seen a damn one.
I\'ve played:
Smuggler\'s Run
Midnight Street Club Racing
DOA
Madden
SSX
Track and Field
Ready to Rumble
Sky Odessey
Swing Away Golf
RRV
And nothing... I think some of you are just looking for anything to be pissed off about.
Also has anyone noticed that Smuggler\'s Run and Midnight Street Club Racing are essentially the same game. Except for the scenery you do exactly the same thing, you follow arrows.
-
I don\'t really care about the slowdown thing, but I must say also that there really is slowdown in some games, for instance NHL, that game suffers from a real lot of slowdown, also try Timesplitters in 4-player mode and have everybody move and shoot like crazy, there is a serious drop in framerate there.
SSX had a little bit once every few races, and the drop lasted for like 1-2 seconds and it was barely noticeable.
-
Really. Every game on consoles have slowdown. If you know where too look for. If the framerate drops at all, That\'s slowdown. Crazy Taxi on DC has slowdown. So really. Who cares. Aslong as it\'s not bad enough to make the games unplayable. Then really. Why bother complaining about it. if its just once in awhile... Who cares?
-
Perhaps I\'ve just been lucky so far, but I haven\'t seen any slowdown either. But I\'ve also only been playing single player.
