EThugg asked: If ya\'ll wanted these games why the hell didnt you get a DC?

w1ngman answers: Sega CD...32X...Saturn...  What do they all have in common?  Sega.  A company that has burned its supporters time and again.  Saturn was the worst shame b/c Sega\'s in-house development team came through soo well...but 3rd party developers remembered the 1st two peripherals to the Genesis (also a successful platform for Sega AND 3rd party developers) -- but it was the peripherals, and hefty priced ones at that, that dissuaded 3rd party developers from backing Sega in the future.  Thus Saturn\'s demise.  And similarly, poor DC.  What a great system!  Truly!  But the burned victims littered America (be they developers or gamers)...the DC could not pull Sega out of its own sad history.  There\'s an answer

BTW, I have enjoyed many of Sega\'s DC titles and also look forward to as many as possible port over to the PS2.

The only Sega systems that burned anyone was 32x, and if you bought Saturn @ launch for $400. Otherwise you got your moneys worth. Sega CD was fully worth the price. Saturn (after a price drop or 2) was worth the price. That\'s a weak ass argument. That\'s the same argument pirates use for why they\'re justified in pirating DC games.
Title: Please!

OMG.  Please don\'t EVEN pretend that my argument ("an" argument...I did not say "the winning argument") has any business being thrown together with sorry-a$$ Pir8s.  They suck and ruin the whole gaming opportunity for each and every one of us.

But regardless, if we both agree that 32X had offered a nail in Sega\'s coffin, then I still profess that it is THAT nail (if you allow me no other) that caused 3rd party developers to shy from Sega.  On top of that, while a good system, the Saturn\'s design left it hard for 3rd party developers to program (ironically, an argument being cast heavily at the PS2 with its 4 CPUs as well).  Even though Sega\'s in-house development teams worked this out superbly, they could not save the Saturn on their own.  So, be it 32X or Saturn\'s complicated design, DC\'s life was heavily curtailed.

Thankfully, Sega\'s decision to step away from hardware and be a dynamite 3rd party developer for the masses works well for all of us.  Especially those of us that own the complicated inner workings wrapped in a sleek matte-black shell called PS2.  Sega...work your magic!

But EThugg...I\'d appreciate it if you NEVER throw me in the same boat with slimy pirates.

Thank you,
-w1ngman

Sorry to disappoint you EThugg...but I don\'t enter these forums to be an antagonist.  I simply consider the threads and offer my opinions.  I don\'t read them and say, "Hey, the only way I\'m going to respond to this is to try to piss someone off with an effort to garner an argument."

You may refer to me as w1mpman if you wish...I hope the rest of the posters will consider me w1ngman and not judge me by my lack of desire to antagonize.

w1ngman- I didnt call you anything, I simply said pirates (very often) use that argument against Sega. I didn\'t mean you yourself was a pirate. I have Saturn, and plenty of games for it that made it worth purchasing. I have a 32x too, but I paid $20 for it, so that doesn\'t count, any system\'s worth $20.
And this is why I h8 Sony, they have the money, and are the perceived \'sure bet\', so despite the poor learning curve for developers, PS2 will get the support it doesn\'t deserve, where as Saturn, got less support than it deserved cause they were only a \'game\' company as opposed to a \'electronics\' company. And this is exactly the direction the industry is taking, mainstream. And the same direction that makes gaming less exciting every year. I\'m happy for the mainstreamers and newbies, but this directions bad for the hardcore..

cloud- \'argument materials\'? What does that mean?
