"PSM, an unofficial magazine for Playstation gamers have had a chance to sit down and talk with Namco and have recieved a few details about the upcoming arcade and Playstation 2 fighter - Tekken 4.
Namco has confirmed that Tekken 4 will in fact be delayed and not make it to arcades, let alone PS2, by the end of 2001. However, some good news does arise from the situation, the reason behind the long wait is that Namco\'s Tekken team is giving it their all and really trying to make this a revolutionary game.
Rumours have been flying about that there is talk about moving the game to "full 3D" and that the dev team behind Ergheiz, Dream Factory, will be assisting that move. But, that is still unconfirmed and we\'ll let you know if anything develops."

Seeing the history of VF vs Tekken, I seriously doubt that. I really do hope Tekken 4 is revolutionary, because Tekken\'s fighting system and play mechanics are old.

The Tekken game engine may be old but why change it? Its a great engine.

go to http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com and see how huge the tekken fanbase is, easily bigger than vf\'s cult following
and tekkens fighting mechanics are very deep, mashing is almost impossable

VF is deeper than Tekken, but more Americans prefer Tekken. The Tekken engine is very old and dumb imo. :) Although I play it everyday, I like Capcom\'s offerings better.

yeah, capcom 2d fighters are the best!!..their 3d one suck though!
vf is more popular in japan we europeans/americans like tekken/soulcaliber

Tekken is great game, but I agree, that the system is getting a bit overdone, I have TTT, and tekken III and II, and I haven\'t found all that mucch off a difference in gameplay, so to me it\'s getting a bit overdone.

This arguement is pointless. Just all personal taste. I perfer VF over Tekken--though I do like Tekken, even if I found TTT pretty boring after awhile.
PS2 needs Capcom 2D fighters, and with the DC dead maybe it will get some. Which reminds me, I just got the Street Fighter Alpha anime on DVD--anyone seen it yet?:)
Its pretty cool.

Good to see some VF fans here. :) Thought I may have been the only one. I don\'t dislike Tekken, but VF is deeper and more strategic than Tekken. Though I admit Tekken is much more popular here. Just remember, popularity isn\'t always a good thing. ;)

Regardless, I do hope Tekken 4 is something new, just like I hope VF4 is something new. Even if it\'s not broken, it\'s time for a change.

nice to see another Tekken game, but will it be a Tag or normal fighting game, can\'t wait to see where they take it after TTT.

I surely hope they\'ll at least include a tag option (maybe even bigger than 2 player teams this time around). Fighting one on one feels kinda lonely after some hundred hours of TTT... :)

well, I don\'t want to turn this into a Tekken debate, as we have ade many on this forum. I will say this: You can mash the hell out of Tekken and still win. Tekken = few hundred moves. VF = 5000!!! hmm, which is the deeper game? must be Tekken becuase of the SECRET CHARATERS! hahaha :p or is it becuase some people can become different this like a animal and robots! Oh. My. Gay. I think I will stick with gameplay and not extras.
VF4 is going to make Tekken it\'s *****, in America, in Japan, everywhere.

It\'s all about opinion. You beleave VF is a better game. Though u must be playing against crap tekken fighters to think it\'s a BUTTON mashing game. try button mashing against someone like me, bobs_hardware or Gradman. Hell there are Tekken players here that could wipe the floor with BUTTON mashers. You want a game where u have more of a chance too win through button mashing. Play Soul Calibur.
The first time i played it was against ONLINERAT. I just button mashed. guess what, I won.
It\'s easier too pull of combos on VF. Though harder to do floaters. It\'s just about personal choice. My own choice. I prefer Tekken. :D
I know my fighters. I have Nearly EVERY capcom fighter on PSX and DC. I also have the VF series and Tekken Series. As well as SNK fighters. :D There are other fighting games.
UFC, FV2 etc. But for me. Tekken doesn\'t get boring.

Well in my opinion,the VF series sucks llama ass,just like the Tekken series.There both button smashing games for god sakes,MOST fighters are.

VF is for the hardcore fighting fans and Tekkens a fighting game for the masses with something there for the hardcore fighting fan. Tekken\'s fighting engine is much easier to master than VF\'s I learnt Tekken in a week but VF took me longer. VF has more complex throws IMO. That said though if I had to choose only one 3D fighting game it would be Tekken Tag because it has more appealing characters and playin it with 3 friends is bloody excellent:D. Mabye I am more of a mainstream gamer when it comes to fighting games:)

More complex throws. I think you need to get into tekken alittle more. Maybe with king and nina. I\'m not saying VF doesn\'t have complex throws. But imo there about the same.
I don\'t play tekken because everyone else plays it. I\'ve been playing tekken sense it came out in the arcades. I see more people Playing tekken on the arcades then VF. Maybe it\'s just like that in aus.
I\'m a hardcore fight fan. But i just don\'t like VF as much as tekken. like i said. It\'s about opinion.
But the best fighters for me. Would be realistic fighers. Like bushindo blade etc. The 2d fighters i go for. SNK fighters more then Capcom fighters. That\'s why Capcom Vs Snk is so much fun. :D UFC on dc was pretty fun. But got boring after awhile. I really hope T4 and VF4 bring something new and undone in fighters. Because fighters are just getting boring these days.. Same S$#t different smell.

Thats what some people call Tekken fans since the Saturn.Me personally prefer Teeken a)because each character\'s controls are different.There is an enormous difference bettween Howarand and Jin,Nina and Law etc.Even heihachi has different tactics than Jin.
b)Easy to find some moves and hard to find others.The harder is the move the better it looks.Aaaah!The feel of enjoyment when finding a new move:).
2)The combos are great although hard to perform.And I am not talking about 10-hit automatic combos.About self creating combos
3)The great amount of characters
4)Real Martial Arts are well presented.
5)Cool Moves
6)Fast action

I\'ll just say this. VF doesn\'t have the endless clones like Tekken does. The two closest characters in VF are Jacky and Sarah, and they are too different to be considered clones.
While most of you will argue this, tons of Tekken characters have a bunch of similarities. That\'s why the character count is 20+. :)
Now on the whole subject of fighting games, I too prefer 2D over 3D. And while Capcom VS SNK is nice, it\'s not really a game to test your skills. I love it, but it\'s rather shallow.

Well said. Its all a matter of personal taste. I use to perfer Tekken over VF actually. But I dug out the ole Saturn and started playing VF2 again and I\'m more amazed with it then I am Tekken now. Either way, Street Fighter reigns supreme in my opinion. As for Killer Instinct, I liked the first one, but the second was horrible in my personal opinion. And don\'t even get me started on Mortal Kombat. :D

Something we can agree on. :) I too think SF is the king of all fighting games. I also agree on KI. The first one was great and the second total trash. It\'s still fun to play KI now with the u64 emu. ;)

I for one am looking forward to Tekken 4. Its very rare to see a sequel surpase the old version..let alone 3 sequels..well TTT isn\'t a sequel but it did get some new stuff to it. On a different subject the ps2 does need a 2d fighter..but since capcom has been making games like devil may cry and the highly anticipated Onimusha..I doubt we will see one of their 2d fighters on the ps2 any time soon..so that only leaves one option..Guilty Gear X..yes..GGX should be the first 2d fighter on the ps2.

well i for one like tekken a lot better than VF because of the whole experience not judt the fighting but the characters that you can realte with but VF is still a cool game regardless

I really hope Rare makes KI3 for the gamecube, I loved the first KI but I never got the chace to play KI2 or KIGOLD :(
if nintendo wants me to be impressed, well..show KI3 at E3!!
