Sony has confirmed plans to work in cooperation with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone to provide experimental, advanced multimedia content, including movies, anime, and sports programming, for the Japanese PlayStation 2. The two companies plan to utilize a high-speed connection to distribute entertainment streamed over fiber-optic cables provided by NTT. Sony maintains that the operation in question will triple the distribution speed of typical Japanese ISDN lines, boasting a picture that one might expect from a standard satellite broadcast. If the project succeeds, Sony hopes to invest in an infrastructure for the network, providing the service to more consumers in Japan.

Cool the UK gov has ordered BT our main Communication company to open up the Comm\'s net work to other companyes.
this means that there will be a masive increase in households with a broadband connection ( i am still waiting on either cable or ADSL in my area :( ).

this could mean that the Sony network could be in the UK  with full or nearly full Broadband connection for all :D.
