mm\'hmm. They totally re-wrote it from the book. Which is fine in most parts, but leaves some lacking, like crucial elements on why he eats people. Also takes quite awhile to get goin\'.
Not better then Silence of the Lambs. Not even equal to it. But still, worth seeing.
-
why does he eat people?
-
Cause it\'s better than chicken.
-
lol
-
yea but i thought it was suppst to taste like chicken - or at least it does to me - oh wait . . .
nevermind what i said before
-
lol...... he eats people because he has special teeth that can only eat humans........ not really ..

THe book explains he had a sister and she was eaten and some other dramatic things. I don\'t want to spoil it all. But anyways, it damages him and he is haunted by dreams of her, in the book. The movie leaves this whole thing out. In the book, Hannibal and Clarice save each other from their inner demons. Hannibal teaches Clarice about not being afraid and such. And she takes away his pain and mourning for his dead sister.

I\'m about half way through the book now. I\'m gonna wait untill I finish it before I see the movie obviously.

Man, you could see the movie and you could go home and read the book and still be suprised. They basically rewrote the whole thing, except the most underlying parts. Still, it may be a good idea to wait just for the fun. I got the book soon as it came out so I\'ve been looking forward to the movie for awhile now.
Not sure if it lived up to my expecations or not yet. I am going to go see it again Monday and maybe see if it seems different, in a new view. I haven\'t slept in close to 48 hours, so my attenion wasn\'t all on the movie. So, who knows.
:D

Thanks for the impressions. I\'m going to go see it nonetheless, and not fearing that the movie will spoil the book.
Now, critics have said the movie is very gruesome. Is this true? :)

In my personal opinion, no. It is over the top in some violence scenes. But, I didn\'t find it gruesome.

I actually think I\'m seeing that today!
Thanks for the good impressions!

I just saw it and thought it was worht the money to see it.
It doesn\'t have alot of violence but in the scenes that it has the violence it is very grizzly indeed.
I loved sitting in the dark movie theater and listening to the audience cringe at what was on screen. My thoughts was that it was a really good film.
Don\'t compare it to the book, that gets rather silly in todays world where we all know the book will always be a cut above the film.

Movies I\'ll go to see in a while:
Hannibal
Exorcist - director\'s cut ( maybe )
CastAway
Three really good movies :)

I agree most the time on the "don\'t compare it to the book" note. But, in this case, I think the movie is better. Did you read the book? If so, you know that some of the book is pretty far-fetched. It is really a trade off. The book had some really stupid things in it. Which was taken out of the movie. But the book also had a few more characters that was really interesting. Which was also taking out of the movie.
Overall, in this case, I think the movie was better. Thomas Harris went over-board with the book Hannibal.
Either way, if you read the book or not, you should go see the movie. It isn\'t a classic by any means, but it is still a good flick.

Yes I read the book and agree whole heartily with every word you said.

I love that Brain thing in the end. That was truly cool listening to the audience go "EWWWW!!"
