I found this little snippet at IGN.PS2. This last week the PS2 and PSOne\'s were the top selling consoles at roughly 50,000 units each. However the end of the artical stated this...
"Oh, and for the diehard 16-bit fans, the Sega Genesis sold a whopping 47 units during the week, while the Super NES didn\'t sell a single one."
Woohoo! The Genesis sold more than 47 times more units than the SNES did! Go Sega!!!
-
i don\'t buy it a bit - j/k
who sold those to people -i guess they were used
-
Wow! That\'s quite much for such an old console.
But I\'d buy Snes anyday, if I could find one. sadly they\'re quite out-sold... and stores arent getting them anymore :)
Wonder why? ;)
-
Ahhh yes, the good ole Majesco re-release. I was probably one of those 47. I used to buy Genesis 3s and sell them to people in Brazil for a nice profit :)
Just shos you that Genesis was the king of 16!

PS: Yup, this place is dead and I brought back an old topic, so sue me.

Sega Genesis beats Super Nintendo anyday...;) Funcoland always has Nintendos and Genesisessses...never mind. They keep the cartridges for sale in plastic baggies instead of the original boxes. They even let you play on the old systems...;)
-
Genesis was awesome... but the three best games in the 16 bit era were on SNES (FF3, Zelda LTTP, and Chrono Trigger).
-
You forget Lunar, Lunar 2, Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Phantasy Star 2 and 4, Batman Returns (SegaCD), BC Racers, Shining Force 1 and 2, etc.
Those were all extremely great games. You can\'t really narrow the 16-bit generation down to 3 games. Chrono Trigger IS one of the best easily, but the others are debatable.

btw 47 x 0 = 0
I always liked the Genesis (MegaDrive in the UK) for sports games, and the SNES for most other titles.

Like I said in another thread earlier, the SNES was better than the Genesis, plain and simple
-
and we keep telling you that you are a biased fool, but you keep talking.
plain and simple.
keep your opinions to yourself and don\'t ruin this thread.

i liked both the MegaDrive and SNES equally...although...Square hardly released any of their games down here...and i only played most of them recently
-
I bought a Genesis this year. Just for my collection, I never even opened it. :)

Your math is wrong. 47 divided by zero is undefined. The word "times" doesn\'t belong there.

- nah...actually the genesis, while it had some pretty cool games, it failed to live up to the SNES because of its lack of colors...sega only had 64 colors while the snes had a whopping 16k...plus the snes had mode 7 and the audio chip was a lot better...compare the street fighter games and MK2...plus check out games like FF3 and castlevania and super ghouls n ghosts which looked a lot better than the genesis\'s original ghouls n ghosts....
-
Both kicked ass, in my opinion. However, I enjoyed my Genesis alot more. You had all the Sonic games, Shinobi series, CastleVania: Bloodlines - which was alot better then CastleVania IV (an excellent game on its own terms). Then there was the more mature games that the Genesis was home to. The Genesis was just more "hip" in my opinion.
-
The SNES had 256 colors; no where near 16K.
-
Systems back then couldn\'t support 16k colors. The system couldn\'t handle that many.
-
jeez alteredbeast.... you sure are making a lot of enemies...:(

actually...what was i thinking...it had 32,768 to choose from...256 on screen at a time....while the genesis could only display 64 from a palette of 512....
get your facts straight buddy.

thanx for regulating....its people like that that corrupt forums and make them lame...if people focused more on the topic and less on the insults and grammatical errors, the forums would be a more pleasant visit.... :)

Technically speaking, the SNES was superior to the Genny. Now in games, it\'s all about preferece. Isn\'t that always the case?
I had much more fun with my SNES though. Those Mode 7 effects never seemed to get old (even though they did eventually). I\'ll never forget the first time I saw Bowser scale towards the screen. Or the first time I heard the beautiful music of Actraiser. The Genny sound system was a POS. (cept for very few games which had great music courtesy of Yuzo Koshiro) ...
I wish I still had both consoles with all the games I had owned. :(

- end transmission.

Wow! After all this time Genesis is still alive. The Super NES was the only one I got. It seems that I think I get a cool system and someone else buys a better one. That\'s happened to me twice.
-
who cares about the technical aspects of the systems?
IMO, Genny spanked SNES, but that is MO!
Also, to everyone that hasn\'t bee alive in the past year of reading this board, Genesis could do scaling and rotation (and Mode 7 with the SVP chip)
ajoh - I care about 0 how many enemies I make, as long as I get my point across. We all know Bozco is a little fanboy, I didn\'t even have to tell him, but he is just too damn ignorant.

I never liked the Genesis too much. Aside from the Sonic games, there really wasn\'t that much else IMO(then I again, I didn\'t play Genesis much back then). I prefered Square\'s RPGs and the SNES\'s platformers.
The Genesis was just more "hip" in my opinion.
That sounded really lame. ;)

Yeah, I know. It sounded like one of those late night infomercials.
"Buy a Genesis now and you too can be \'hip\' !"
haha

I bought a brand spanking NEW SNES at Walmart about 3 weeks ago! I couldn\'t believe it, I scratched my eyes and there they were behind the glass! I went to Blockbusters and pawnshops and picked up a whole pile of games like Contra: The Alien Wars, Blackthorne, Super Ghouls\'n Ghosts, Demon\'s Crest, Axeley, Yoshi\'s Island, Plok, Zombie Ate my Neighbours, etc.
