Title: Those damn gremlins at work again!:)
Post by: Dreamstationboxcube on February 10, 2001, 06:10:12 AM
Me and 3 other friends were playin Timesplitters when we thought we might try something different. First we made a stage with one room(2x2squares in size as small as possible, you could make it even smaller if you want:D) that\'s it, then we added in lots of respawn points. Next we added in 10 bots(all of them duckman) and for the weapon we had TNT and put the start with a gun option to yes. We loaded it up and started throwing TNT like madman all around the room and it froze:eek: we tried it three more times and the same thing happened:D. It is either a bug or the PS2 couldn\'t keep up with all the people and explosions on screen at once:D

People with Timesplitters should try this and see if it happens to you as well. Mabye that level creater was a bit to much freedom for a console.....Ah well it\'s a great thing to have in a game even if it does have bugs:D

it\'s not that it had a bug, it\'s that all the crap you guys got the PS2 to do, it didn\'t have enough RAM to hold it all so it kept having to go to the CD to get the code, and because it was all happening so fast the PS2 couldn\'t keep up, and it froze, it happenes to PC\'s all the time, just ask Bill Gates :D

yeah the next time you play Halflife on the PC and there is more than 4 Soldiers in a Area, smash some grates and throw some Greanades and see what happens.

Running UT with high graphics, 16 bots each with thier own voice pack on a small stage...all I can say is jumpy jumpy jumpy that\'s with 128ram too:D so it\'s understandable that the PS2 would not be able to keep up with only 32 meg ram and 4 meg Vram.

in fact just about any game has the ability to slow down and become unplayable.

just look at Deus Ex on the PC :D.

Yeah UT is still playable but only on the smallest stage and if you don\'t have everyone on screen at once:D. Nowadays you need a beast to run PC games at a decent old pace with good Graphics, Dues Ex and Giants:citizen kabuto are prime examples. The PC mag I get recommended a P3 600 128ram and a 32meg Video card to run Giants with good graphics(the graphics it was meant to have) and a decent framerate:eek: they weren\'t kidding either it runs like a dog on my P2 450 128ram 16meg vcard.

yup it is sometimes a matter of a poor graphics engine rather than the power of your rig.

Yes it was made for Glide, then openGL and D3D was added in at the last minute I own a voodoo though so I can\'t complain:D Unreal 2 though is being made on a Geforce board so you may need a Geforce to play it with the added graphical enhancements and a good framerate.

If you own a PC then I think the Geforce 2 is a must have for this year and next, the Geforce 2 MX is a reasonable price to so most can afford one now. I\'m saving for one right now:D Voodoo3 is really showing it\'s age:laughing:

Could a move like that spark the 3D cards wars ?
i know they always try to out perform each other , but will they start to get developers to coincentrate on there cards more ?

yes , the unreal engine is a bad engine for geforce cards, I run a geforce 256 pro DDR and I get blazing fast framerates at q3 and half-life, why not at ut or deus ex??
C\'mon epic!!

Even PS2 will bend down if it\'s hit too hard.

Don\'t torture the console :)

if thats the case , will we be forced into buying one of the mian cards just beacuse of the developers support ?

what ever happend to buying PC hardware just because it was good and at a good price ?

It doesn\'t only happen in 3D cards it also goes on with CPU\'s as well, games only really support Pentium that\'s why it says on the back of the box that a pentium is needed. It is changing now though with AMD making just as good if not better CPU\'s than intel. Giants fully supports AMD "3D now" technology on the cpu\'s, so if you think about it you don\'t really have that much freedom in buying a PC for games as some people claim. It\'s like buying a console, well almost. The freedom comes in deciding which Geforce to buy and how fast you want your Intel Pentium:D
