This is one of my most anticipated games, the realtime strategy and flight simulator concept mixed in with troop mangement played on a simulated 40k x 40k battlefield has me excited
and they say Sony doesn\'t make good games, well time will tell but it sure sounds like a winner to me,
Netplay on this one would be great, but I bet it would be a long chess match, the kind of game you\'d have to play over a significant amount of time
I\'m downloading the movie now
-
dropship has both amazing graphics and new elements of gameplay.. its deffinitly on my watch list.
Question is when it will be released, and if it will be pushed back
-
The movie was real cool
The game seems to be progressing pretty nively, it seems Sony\'s European dev\'s are pumping out a good portion of Sony\'s best games
the game I believe at one time was targetted for a Xmas 2001 release but i wouldn\'t be surprised if it gets bumped,
-
This game looks like a lot of fun. Might be a must buy good thing I work at babbages get to try out any game I want for free.:D:D

Dropship looked much cooler when it was a PS2 demo than it does now. It looks like a PC flight simulator game. oh well... Come on sony show us some quality that can\'t be done by everyone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dropship the demo looked a lot better than this, anyone agree with me? I mean the demo before it was a game.
-
Note to those who picked up the PSW DVD with the Dropship footage on it theres nothing new on this .mov to see. I cant say I recall hearing anything about a Dropship demo DWarrior - if you mean when it was demoed at a trade show (E3 I think, probably ECTS though) then be assured that there seems to be minimal difference between any of the videos Ive gathered from what I can tell.
Dropship has all the makings of a classic, I think there going to pull off a superb game here. Hmm, now if only they would announce a remake Armour-geddon :)_ that would make my day/week/month/year.

i wouldn\'t look at this newer footage or whatever and pass judgement on what you see is what the game will play like
I think the game is barely 50% complete if that and they are only interesting in showing off some of the different ships and there terrain engine
the game has a heluva alot more going on then even the ECTS demos last year.
Everything I\'ve seen thus far has done nothing to turn me off from the game cause I positive we haven\'t seen the real meat of it
-
bd,
Armour-geddon was a CLASSIC! I had (and believe I still have - somewhere in my basement) that for my Atari ST, what an awesome game!
-
i had that game for my AMIGA and it rocked !
i only hope that this game lives up to it the hype.
hoho a 40 by 40 Km playing area oh yeah :D.

and no i am not going :nut:\'S

Can I use my logitch optical Mouseman for it, keyboard?
Multiplayer?
-
hmm my subconcious that is writhing this (because i am asleep) tells me that it should be able to take full advantage of a UBS mouse and keyboard, but by the looks ofthings flying your dropship should be just as easy when using the Dual Shock.
As for multi player we will have to wait and see, but ic could easyly have split screen 2 player action or ilink action.
please dont tell the sleeping ooseven that i am posting "behind" his back, beacuse he will only punish me my shoving a q tip in his hear :crying:.
OMG you don\'t know what it;s like being in the same body, he is one crazy :nut:.

ECTS 2000 Update
In a backroom Q&A session with Sony Studios Camden at ECTS, Producer Pete Edward brought into a clearer focus what has been perhaps the most misunderstood of SCEE\'s first wave of PlayStation 2 games. The answers to our questions came in spades, as we saw the first levels being played along with several sequences of recorded footage showing the game\'s multi-function nature.
What we learned is that Dropship isn\'t a lamely designed, suckily textured piece of random code, which is kind of what we had lurking in the back of our heads when we first saw the initial screenshots in April. Those shots were prematurely released, admits Edward, who was glad to demo his game at ECTS.
Dropship is a war-based action arcade game, with tactical and shooter aspects that enables players to pilot a carrier or "dropship" from back field military bases to the front lines of war, delivering troops and tanks, and fulfilling a variety of mission objectives while shooting down enemies and blowing up their camps.
Studio Camden, founded in 1994, and makers of Psygnosis\' Kingsley\'s Adventures, Blast Radius, and the upcoming Team Buddies, is right on schedule with its game, due in late summer 2001 (Edward said the game probably will be ready in September).
What Edward went to great pains to explain is that Dropship takes advantage of the PS2\'s inherent power like no developer could ever do with PlayStation, and that\'s to generate huge, polygonal worlds, that need no fogging and never show a slowly drawn-in background. That\'s because the world is always present in polygonal form at all times, thanks to PlayStation 2\'s massive data pipeline.
What makes this statement even more impressive is that the landscape is 40x40 kilometers wide, which is (in my late night guesstimate) really damn big, like dozens of miles wide, with a two-mile high ceiling, and about ¼ million randomly-placed fully polygonal, texture-mapped trees, and a fully textured, multi-faceted terrain. The point? It\'s that the PlayStation 2 is being used to its strengths, which is to generate monstrous lengths of terrain without a hitch, thus enabling designers to enlarge their scope, design newer kinds of levels, create more realism, and increase maximum gaming pleasure. Hey! What a great idea!
Just like in Star Wars Starfighter, in Dropship players can travel great distances straight up into the sky, without a problem. The player starts a level by dropping into the atmosphere off a plane to set up a war base. As anyone who\'s watched the Space Shuttle clear the Earth\'s atmosphere knows, one wrong move and the ship and the crew can burn to a crisp. Edward described that the drops will be made through special chutes that enable entry into the atmospheres, and then a high-speed drop into a completely new world.
The video we were shown displays the oval-shaped warbirds speeding into the new atmospheres like rockets, plowing though the initial point of entry and then passing through several layers of the stratosphere, including strategically placed clouds and other weather conditions.
What players will then do is set up camp and fight against another opponent, with equal but differently designed craft. Players can transport other stuff, sure, but they\'re quite handy all by their lonesome, too. Dropships appear to have primary and secondary weapons, which are easy to use. In one demonstration, we were shown a mission objective that required the ship to travel low through a snaking shallow canyon to a bridge. The goal is to reach the bridge and then destroy it before he enemy tanks reach it. Using missiles, the Dropship blew the bridge up with just a few shots. It was cool stuff, Maynard.
The gameplay is made up of missions that require you to take on several objectives. Players will see offensive missions that are straight on shoot-\'em-ups, or defensive missions, in which they have to defend their bases. In some cases, players have to take on a more tactical strategy, which is to perform a stealth run to enemy camps, or to perform surveillance objectives. Missions that include rescuing POWs and retrieving items also are sure to be present.
In many cases your dropship delivers troops and ground vehicles to within enemy territory. The goals here are obvious (to invade the enemy camp), and once you have dropped them off, and depending on where you leave them, they will either wait, defend, or attack enemies automatically. Smart tactical behavior requires you to have perhaps produced more troops or tanks to replenish this first wave of forces, or to have placed the force in the enemy\'s weakest point.
What\'s cool is that even with this much mission variety, Studio Camden has gone to even greater depths, adding a plethora of other vehicles to pilot. One such vehicle is the six-wheel truck, which looks like a flatbed Hummer, and can book like a racecar.
The truck can travel any single place on the gigantic map, and it is constructed with full real-life physics. Each wheel moves independently, and the thing can perform a kind of power slide, believe it or not. One clever demo area showed the truck jumping off a ramp over six barrels, and landing. The programmer tried to perform a barrel roll, and while it didn\'t work, you can do one if you’re good enough. There are other vehicles, but those haven\'t been announced yet.
Studio Camden was keen on pointing out the game\'s streaming audio components, too. In your ship, you can hear all sorts of allies, and even sometimes the enemy, talking to you. With incoming radio voices from HQ, the co-pilot, and your troops, you\'ll have to disseminate which is the most important, and take action accordingly.
All this will come in time. After all, Dropship isn\'t due on PS2 until a year from now. But with a few levels already built, and ship physics well in place, the team seems right on schedule. Dropship is a DVD-based game, that\'s due in late summer (read September) 2001.
Last but not least, make sure to check out the new screenshots, which are FAR BETTER than the first, early, early screens, and the new movie footage, which shows how cool the game moves and feels. These give you a much better idea of the level of graphics the game can deliver.
sorry it ant a 2 player game but hey that don\'t make it a bad game !.

clam down mate, we will get our fair share of Multiplayer games, let them release this one first and my be if they do a DROPSHIP 2 we can go onling or play via iLINK ;).

Lavan: You should pick it up for a ST emulator and give it go again, I picked it up on the Amiga years ago and played it for quite some while, nullmodem linkup cooperative play was astounding. You can find Armour-Geddon on St,Amiga and PC (abandonwarez) and the sequel Armour-Geddon II \'Codename Hellfire\' on Amiga, its also worth a go on the emulators if your curious to see how the game progressed. Shame the Psygnosis name has for all intensive purposes disappeared - classics from Shadow of the beast through Infestation and ArmourGeddon right upto the modern day \'classics\' which most PSX owners will recall. Think Ill go see how they run on the emulators in a minute :)
A massively multiplayer Dropship would be a dream come true, imagine if over the next year or so we got to see a small line of games covering different situations in that games world, from driving about in tanks to being a trooper right up to coordinating the whole battle field from high orbit ala C&C only with real people controlling many of the key units, bringing all the players together to fight on such a scale would be a great experience, shame it isnt that likely to happen, but like 00seven says maybe with Dropship2 eh? :)

Hmmm a Dropship2 with fulll online support , that would be intresting, it should alow players to chose what they wan\'t to play as, for example you could be a Dropship pilot or even a tank driver, alowing the use of voice comm\'s we could even see a full scale battle with about 25 to 30 players fighting along side some AI units.
thats what i want to see in the second game.
-
This game would make for a great online multiplayer. Although the games could be very long chess matches as almost any strategy title.
2p split screen would suck ass though.
-
Yup drop ship is definitely on my want list, u can command diff vehicles in the game. Its great.
-
Yeah there where a few ground base vehicles in earlier movies as well.

Everytime that I click on that link my computer locks up. Anyone else have a better one?
