Does anybody know when the Hard Disk Drive is coming out?
And when it comes out will that allow us to play online?
And how much is it gonna cost?(better not be too much or i\'m gonna go mad and shout at my PS2)

Nobody knows exactly when it will come out. You will need a broadband connection and an ethernet adapter to be able to get online.

I suppose that\'s gonna mean having to fork out MORE money if we wanna get the most of our PS2\'s

being able to go online is not the be all and end all of games, infact most games are better played off line with your mates. that why they can see and hear you as you win for the 10th time in a row :D.
plus you don\'t have the problem of LAG and Phone bill\'s , this is a UK or non Cable / ADSL problem only.
i should know i play TFC online with a 56k modem and boy is it laggy :crap:.

i used 2 play counter-strike with a 56k and i had pings of 150

Why the **** are you smoking moron? I\'ve been reading the threads at MSXBOX for the last three weeks now,the only people from here that go there are Simchoy and SoulGrind who mind their own ****ing business(well,SG did a nice job of telling everyone that Xbox won\'t get a MGS game :))

1 year ago. LOL you haven\'t even been here 1 year man. This forum was pretty slow 1 year ago. Now we get TOO many threads too keep up on. There\'s quite a lot of posting a day here in psx2central.
PS. Not everyone has the internet. Not everyone Has broadband. Simple fact is there are more Dialup users on a crappy 56k lines then broadband. The Xbox HD is as good as a large Mem card for someone without the internet.

SOULGRIND i have been at this site since it first opened. I may not have posted much in the beginning, but i believe around july i was doing alot of posting. (under a differnt name of course)
Now yes it is true most people have ****ty 56k modems but the numbers in boradband are increasing. Also who the hell would want tommoorows games with a 56k??? lag, lag lag.
Also MS said there games transfer so much data that 56k would just not be possible. The dreamcast just barely pulled it off, then again they had there own dedicated network, but even NFL2k had delay time.

it was not untill 6 months ago I got BB..
I still remember 56k.. dialing up, and being jealous of BB...
I would be very pissed if I did not have an option to play online... (aka, XBOX)
Even NGC is going to give a choice.
M$ made another bad choice when having a BB adapotor only on their console, leaving millions of people (yes, I said millions) out in the cold...
Not incluing USB leaves out the possibilty of adding a USB 56k,
If I did not have BB I would be royally pissed off if I could not play online with my console beacuse the company choose to not include it.. even as an option.

Also you guys talk about beening pissed by not being able to play with 56k. MS said with 56k there would be no point, cause it would be too slow to handle the game. BB is the future, and i think the reasons are clear. WHo the hell in there right mind would attempt to play an XBOX game with a 56k. If you think 56k lags in UT for the pc wait till you see an xbox game like HALO, you would be lucky if you get movent every two seconds.
56K will not work for xbox games, MS wants people to have the ultimate gamming experience. I have been playing online for years now, and i can tell you bad lag makes a game unplayable. Also minor lag really takes away on the quality of the gamming experience.
Hell i think BB is slow, i want a t3 or something.

Sorry but people like you usually can\'t afford adance technologie. (I\'m talking about the dumb people who can\'t get a better job than a cashier) .And I\'m not insulting cashiers by thw way. I\'m sure most of them could out smart PSX2CENTRAL.

Are u having troubles understanding this.. BB may be the future.. But right now. It\'s userbase is to small to be a only option on a console
I play UT against personal friends that have BB.. on my pc. We don\'t have any trouble with lag. Most of us get a ping of 10. That\'s in aus mind u. I normaly get a ping of 50-60 against US players that are on BB..

When u play games. Join against people that have faster connections then u.. It helps.. To give them lag hehe. but if u want fair games. Simply connect against people with the same PING. Not modem speed. It\'s really about how far and how many nodes your com goes through before playing people, That gives u lag.
I play UT sometimes against Samwise.. We get pings of 800 sometimes on BB. But other times we get pings of 80. It really just depends on the server. So if MS or Sony are making there OWN servers for the consoles.
I don\'t think 56k users will have the trouble playing xbox games. Maybe agianst over seas players. But u get more trouble on pcs because there are 56k users making SERVERS for games...
My point is.. Why make a BB only service, When there really isn\'t Enough BB users out there to support it.

Maybe if you had your own business you could do that. It\'s a GOOD deal of money for a T3 connetion.

Yep they told me that i could not get one installed cause you need to have a business, in order for them to install one for you. DAng!!!

I bet i make twice the amount you make in a year. I have my own business, and i\'m only 20 years of age, now that is pretty good, indeed. Also you say people like me, what do you mean by that, you don\'t know me personally. What i think of people in this Forum is completly differnt for what I think of them in in real life. So you can assume all you want,b ut it will get you nowhere.
Also the amount a t3 costs to operate mouthy is very affordable for me. I have never needed to work as a cashier or any 9-5 job cause I played the game smart and made money on my own. Now I’m not even going to speculate on what you do for a living, cause I really don\'t care.
Also to SOULGRIND, I never disagreed with you on the 56k issue, but I was pointing out that 56k sucks ass to play games on. Put it this way, would you play a single player PSX2 game, if it were all chopped up in speed and in fluidity. Or even a game in which everything you do is delayed. Hell no!!, I’m so happy that xbox will only support BB, I hope it forces people to get bb in order to play the games online.
PS. why is Nintendo even bothering in implanting online play for the GC when nintendo\'s president said online play is a FAD?????????

Psx2central, It\'s like this.. why not have a SIMPLE Option. Why not have it so people can choose for themselfs if they need broadband or not too play xbox games online. It\'s bad enough people are paying for a HD that may never be used. But having too get Broadband to use this HD seems to me abit of a well, Prick. :D

You are a MORON, in order to get a t3 you need a business that requires one, my business does not, besides i tried and they told me no. I run my business at home(mosty)
You see before you open your mouth and assume things you should have asked me first. I had feeling that when i wrote that post you were all going to get me for that statement, but then i figured(which was my mistake)that you guys would have known that already. Anyways i might be getting one. I have a contract with a assembly plant for new order status, and i will tell them that i need a t3 for my business, that it requires one. So it looks like i might be getting one, i\'ll keep my fingers cross.

The creators of the xbox, when bringing to idea to gates, stressed many times to him that the HDD was one of the most important parts of the xbox, gates did not want it at first, but the team cionvinced him to put it in. The xbox HDD will used for every game. Now when deveopers take advantage of the hdd to enhance game play you will see that the hdd is all about, please read this link it will explain all

well i hope that i get a bb connection sometime soon, but if i don\'t then i hope that the developers and sony will help out all the 56k users and not just leave us hanging ---which i find almost immpossible for sony to do - they would lose too much money w/o 56k support

What can u do with a Console HD, Without internet?.
Use it as a Memcard. If your needing to install games onto the HD before u play them. Then XBOX IS sounding a lot like a pc. But i don\'t think that will happen.
You could use the Harddisk for appz etc. But again. Xbox isn\'t a pc. So what can u do with the HD for games without the internet?. I\'m just interest. I mean the only thing my HD does on my pc without the net is,
1. Installing games.
2. Installing Programs, apps etc - (I doubt xbox will need or HAVE programs, apps etc)
3. Installing Drivers for hardware.
4. Installing the OS. (operating system)
4. Multimedia apps. (Sound, Movie editors, Movie viewers etc.)
I can\'t really think of much else my HD is good for.
With net.
Download Mods and game patches.
Download updates for products, Programs, Apps, Hardware drivers etc.
Play online games.
Go to lovely forums. :D
Download game demos,and/or freeware products, apps.
That\'s all i can think off for the net.
Tell me, Out of the list. What can Xbox do without the net. and with the net.

Will be good for storing save games.

56K users should be shunned. Telephone modems are from the late 1970\'s and were used in Bulletin Board Systems (BBS\'s) back in the 80\'s and 90\'s. This is the 21st century and analog modems are holding progress back. I work for a company called CinemaNow and the entire idea of our company is video on demand on any device. Now you can\'t do this on a 56k modem, so they should be cut out altogether. If you don\'t have broadband, find a way to get it. It would make everything so much better and so much simpler if analog modems went the way of the Commodore 64, but they are still around and still causing computers to be unstable and now that they are going to be available for consoles like the PS2, forget it!
Microsoft\'s way for the xbox is correct, screw the non broadband users and give them a killer app to adopt it.
We are dropping 56k at work soon as well. It causes too much instability and if you live in a place that doesn\'t offer broadband, then you are going to have to wait. Chances are that you probably just got electricity a few months ago anyway.
The World Wide Wait is for analog modems and instability and modem strings and dialing out and disabling call waiting and getting disconnected and high ping times just isn\'t worth it for Online gaming.... Sorry, but some times legacy must be destroyed.

I think it will piss of more people then get them to go out and buy broadband..
People may buy broadband for personal computers if thats all that was supported. But the Xbox and ps2 are not pcs. There gaming machines. So not putting dailup support on the xbox, Will properly just piss people off. more then making them go out and buy BB. IMO.
PS. I\'m not trying to sound like a moron. I just wanna know what people think about a HD for any console without the internet. How it will be better for consoles. :D

I agree with you there Soul, but isnt having a ethernet adapter at launch better than releasing one after launch?? And sony is doing the same thing. The PS2 isnt going to support 56k, only broadband. Does that me sony is shooting themselves in the foot too?

The PS2 will have support for a 56k modem via USB and developers who see the potential will very likely want to have some form of network play in their games. Sony themselves seem to be ignoring narrowband connections and are concentrating on their broadband box and network, probably a good idea considering their apparent goals. I think the lack of support for analogue modems (from both MS and Sony) is suprising considering the market penetration they have, broadband users make up a relatively small percentage of those online as far as I am aware.
