I don\'t know about you, but I keep my PS2 in a cabinet with double doors under my entertainment center. It keeps the dust and my damn cats off my console. I do have a question however. Is it safe for the PS2 to be in Standby Mode in the cabinet while the doors are completly closed? Its a fairly big cabinet, but no air is coming in and none going out. When I\'m actually playing my PS2 I have the cabinet doors wide-open, so oxygen can enter the space. Also Is it best to leave my PS2 in Standby all the time? or Is it better to turn it off, if I\'m not planning to use it for eight or more hours? Thanks for the info.

I see no problems. Stand-by mode uses vwery little energy and definitely doesn\'t use heat intensive processing of the EE and GS
don\'t sweat it
-
It\'s fine to leave it in standby behind closed doors I would say. If you aren\'t going to play for more than a day you should probably turn it all the way off.
-
Turn it off if you\'re not gonna play it for a day or so. Otherwise if you\'re just leaving it alone for awhile leave it on standby.
-
I see no problems with leaving it in stand by mode for a week.
There is no chance of over heating in stand by mode
-
If I leave it in Standby mode for more than an hour the system seems to get pretty warm, how does it not overheated? BTW, thanks for the replies.
-
umm ok i leave mine i have left mine in stand by for a week or two and it wasn\'t hot whe i touched it
i don\'t see how it would overheat when in stand by mode - it isn\'t comsuming much energy - would it be the same as having your computer in stand by mode

Hmm.. This is a stupid question, but don\'t laugh at it.
When I want to get the PS2 to standby-mode, do I have to switch the power off and then on again ( without any cd-roms inside ) so it will be left to standby-mode?
I mean, is there another way to do it so you don\'t have to shut the thing off at all?

@ Darth Joyda:
OH BOY... (I don´t laugh - OK, IDO !!! :D )
Soory Joyda !!!
If you´ve taken out the CD or DVD just hold the Powerbutton (Front) for some Seconds and it will turn Red = your PS2 is in Standby !!!
Just use the Backswitch for comlplete OFF or ON...
Sorry again for laughing... ;)

So simple? Thanks THE EYE!
I sure was stupid.
So forth I command you all to laugh at me and my stupidness on this subject. A person who has owned ps2 for 3 months doesn\'t know how to get it to standby mode :D :D :D

I leave mine in standby mode 100% of the time.
Some times I don\'t play it for a week or so.
Sometimes I play 2 or 3 times a day.
It\'s ALWAYS in standby mode.
The only way I would use the on/off button is if I was not to use it for like a month or something. (I believe the user guide backs me up on this)
And mine NEVER gets hot in standby mode.
It never makes any noise, nothing (except for a little red light)
If yours is getting HOT or warm in standby, something is wrong with it.

Me too Gman2.
Think of your stereo or tv. They are always in "stand-by" mode, that\'s how the remote works, and those devices never over heat(due to being in stby).
When in stby mode with most devices, the only thing that is getting power is a transformer. This x-former is outputing a small voltage(3-5vdc) to a couple of analog devices, maybe a relay and a switch/sensor. That way the device can detect a remote signal to turn on, such as in your stereo, or, the device can detect someone pushing the power/eject button on your PS2.
These devices getting the power in stby mode are "high-life" type devices which typically have a life of hundreds of thousands of hours before any possible failure. Now, there\'s always a small chance you could have a defective componet in that circut, but even those chances are minimal considering the simple nature of their function.
Don\'t sweat it, leave it in stby.

ONE BIG WARNING!!:KEEP THE ROOM CLEAN FROM MOISTURE!!ALSO KEEP IN MIND THAT THE ROOMS TEMPERATURE MUST BE NORMAL!!EVEN IF YOUR CONSOLE IS OFF IT MIGHT RUIN YOUR PS2!!
-
sorry but... what´s MOISTURE?
-
Water vapour in the air.
I have left my PS2 in standby for 3 days and it is fine. I didnt intend not playing it, i was just so busy those days.
-
thank you very much *)PhoeniX(* , one more word for my vocabulary :D :D :D

I think its natural for the PS2 to get a little warm while in Standby. Correct me if I\'m wrong.
