Good,I\'m ok with this decision. I mean,Nintendo stated that the TPS Metroid wasn\'t doing so well(and Nintendo knows third person games better than anyone) so they decided to make it a FPS. Smart move. Now I\'m looking forward to this game than I ever was. The guys were helped develop Half-Life and Quake will be helping Retro so the game will turn out ok in the end. Hopefully...
NintendoNation has a huge topic on this. You should check it out,it has a lot of good points.

I will, since me and you seem to be the biggest nintendo fans in this site. Im going to go and register in a nintendo forum.
-
Cool. NintendoNation is probably the best Nintendo forum on the net. I\'m registered as Ganon over there.

At first I was so upset, then I got to the part where it said that there are people from the Half-Life team and such.
Now I am very excited. I\'m just wondering what\'s it gonna be like to grapple beam in FPS?!

Man I never heard of that place before...too bad the adms rejected my "Other Consoles" idea...
So this makes two awesome FPS at launch(After Dark and Metroid). I swear I\'m not gonna be able to keep up with NGC. I just have to buy Metroid,After Dark, Mario,Too Human, Eternal Darkness,Dinosaur Planet,SSX:SE,1080 2... danm Nintendo! How the hell am I supposed to buy all those games? And then theres GBA...****!
-
You forgot Wave Race, Killer Instinct 3, and Thornado.
Was Dinosaur Planet confirmed for GC? I was hoping they would take it there, it\'s such a good concept, it\'s going to be amazing on GC.
Now where\'s another Banjo?!?
-
You forgot Wave Race, Killer Instinct 3, and Thornado.
BAH! I loved Wave Race 64! It had to be one of the best racing games that ever graced the N64(there wasn\'t that many but...).And Thornado,Factor 5. That game sounds sweet. I might have to forget about buying 1080 and SSX:SE...DAMN I forgot about Rogue Squadron 2! That\'s another game I can\'t miss.
Was Dinosaur Planet confirmed for GC? I was hoping they would take it there, it\'s such a good concept, it\'s going to be amazing on GC.
Yup,it\'s coming the NGC.And it will be most likely at launch title since Rare has already been working on it for so long.
Now where\'s another Banjo?!?
Banjo-Kazooie-the most underated game on the N64. I think it\'s the best 3D platform game ever(with Mario 64 coming in at a close 2nd). I really hope Rare makes another one of these because their truly amazing games.
-
Honestly I didn\'t like Mario 64. I tried over and over too, but it just didn\'t click with me.
But Banjo-Kazooie was the reason I bought a 64. I went and purchased a 64 and that game on BK\'s release.
You also forgot Resident Evil Zero!
-
yea i really think that people are gonna be suprised by nintendo this time around
even people at this forum are starting to notice that they are getting their stuff together
it looks like i will have another systen to buy - but i am still gonna wait about 6 months - to a year to buy it - just have to wait for all the great games to come out and maybe for it to get cheaper
-
Honestly I didn\'t like Mario 64. I tried over and over too, but it just didn\'t click with me.
Yeah I first played it in grade 4! So it was like a dream game for me really but I guess the older audience didn\'t take it in so well. I think the reason for it being kind of disapointing was because of the transaction bewteen 2D and 3D. I expect the next 3D Mario to be a killer AAA title.
But Banjo-Kazooie was the reason I bought a 64. I went and purchased a 64 and that game on BK\'s release.
I loved that game so much...
You also forgot Resident Evil Zero!
....
Is it possible to have that many awesome titles at launch? I mean here are the AAA games that are supposingly coming out at launch:
Metroid
Mario
Eternal Darkness
RE:0
Too Human
Dinosaur Planet
1080 2
Thornado
Rogue Squadron 2
Wave Race 2
SSX:SE
After Dark
(and I have to get Shenmue 2)
And these are the games we know about! EAD is working on four or five games right now that are all scheculed for launch. How is this possible?
And the scary thing is Yamauchi said that Nintendo\'s big season was going to be Christmas 2002...how the hell are they going to surpass their own launch? I can already make a guess which game will come out then:ZELDA.
Like I always said,2001 will be a great year for gamers. But it will be an even better one for people who own GameCube.:D
-
FPS Metroid??
Sounds interesting.
Nintendi better not blow this one since Metroid is one of the best franchises.Remember what happened when Resident Evil went FPS?
-
Nintendo has never screwed any of their franchises. I don\'t think they are going to start with the gamecube.
Oh yeah, you also forgot all the Left Field studios productions. I think they are the ones working on the sports games. They supposedly have 3-5 titles in the work for launch.
-
That\'s fine with me as well, in fact, N64 had all crap FPS anyway. Duke and Doom sucked ass... The two good ones they have are Goldeneye and PD.
-
This comes as a very unpleasant surprise for me. To tell you the truth, I\'ve never played any of the Metroid titles. But from what I\'ve heard of the franchise, it\'s to the core a third-person shooter. How in heaven or hell are you going to pull off a successful jumping mechanism in a FPS, that allows you to hop from platform to platform without feeling awkward?? And what about the much-touted grappling gun?? It\'s going to be hard enough as it is to master that in a TPS, but it\'ll be nearly impossible in a FPS environment. There\'re numerous other setbacks of transforming Metroid to a FPS. IMO, Nintendo should have handled the Metroid project on ther own, and should\'ve given Retro a separate FPS to makes use of the company\'s real talent.
-
To tell you the truth, I\'ve never played any of the Metroid titles.
\'Nuff said...
But from what I\'ve heard of the franchise, it\'s to the core a third-person shooter
Well you heard wrong. Metroid would of sucked as a TPS, I was hoping that they would change it to a FPS all along.
IMO, Nintendo should have handled the Metroid project on ther own
IMO,Nintendo were the ones who made them change it. They didn\'t like Metroid as a TPS so they changed it to a FPS for the better. You should be happy that it got changed, not sad. Besides, you\'ve never played a Metroid game before. You can\'t make an accurate judgement on this if you\'ve never played it before.
-
OMG FPS??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the whole action element of metriod was the fact that it was Third Person. Arg it won\'t be the same...
-
I cant wait for Killer Instinct 3 to come out. The reason most people are disappointed that Metroid is a FPS is because they are used to it being a TPS. Also how will they be able to the flips, rolls, and attack moves like in the previous metroid games? I on the other hand can deal with playing the game as a FPS, but the game would be even better if the developers were able to let you play most of the game in FPS, but in certain parts and levels you would have to use TPS. That way you will be able to do all the moves and new moves( if they add any in the game).
-
arent there any original titles that are going to be on GC? Oh Yeah! I forogt, Nintendo doesn\'t make original franchises anymore!
Eric Jacob

Joy oh Joy. They just killed Metriod. :(
I am not excited. I was looking forward to another Metriod, but now instead, we get yet another FPS. Isn\'t anyone tired of these things? Geeze...

I hate it when people don\'t read the whole thread before post.
NOTE TO EVERYONE- The guys who helped develop Half-Life and Quake on working on this,so even though it\'s a FPS,it\'s gonna be one helluva FPS.

Instead of being a smart ass why don\'t you try contributing to a thread for once?
-
Living-In-Clip and AlteredBeast are just saying that nintendo has too many FPS games. FPS games are good but they are not as good as TPS imo. In TPS you can do much more in a game than a FPS. Have you played any previous Metroid games? I mainly like FPS as multiplayer games and thats why the N64 killed in that category.

They don\'t have too many. The whole amount of FPS is staggering in my opinion. It is almost as bad as the kart racing games. Err.
But Metriod as FPS? Geeze. Super Metriod is one of the greatest games. How do they plan to even make it close to that great using FPS style? It is impossible. Thank you, but no thank you Nintendo.
My reasons for getting a GC is getting extremely limited...
-
Living-In-Clip and AlteredBeast are just saying that nintendo has too many FPS games.
They do??? They didn\'t have very many FPS on the N64, and the ONLY good ones were Perfect Dark and Goldeneye( the two best FPS on a console). And they only have two scheculed for NGC. Metroid and After Dark.
FPS games are good but they are not as good as TPS imo.
I disagree with that completely. There has never been a good TPS on the N64 or PSX(no MGS doesn\'t count because it\'s more of a spy type game with less action). Hell the only descent one was MDK:2 for DC.
Have you played any previous Metroid games?
I own all three of them.
EVERYONE READ THIS AGAIN FOR THE LAST ****ING TIME: Metroid would not have been the same anyway as a TPS so don\'t ***** about it being a FPS. Nintendo made the decision, they are the masters at these games(Zelda),so I think we should trust them on this one and accept this move.
-
Well, my knowledge of old Nintendo games is a somewhat limited, but I think people are pissed off because the game is developed as a FPS now, instead of basing it off what it was before. To me that seems as if Nintendo might as well make a Link Kills Allâ„¢ FPS. Granted, it might be a great FPS, but it isn\'t exactly what people are expecting.
-
Nintendo is sending a lot of its older franchises to 2nd party developers and fucusing on new franchises.
People like Altered kill me. I think it is the anger because of the demise of SEGA. Oh well sorry. I hope you have fun playing Sonic on the GCN. HAHAHA
-
Metroid FPS?! I want the TPS!!!
-
Maybe you don\'t understand here Jumpman, lemme explain. In Super metroid, there was TONS of different moves you could. You could double wall jump from wall to wall, use the morph ball move, and the screw attack, but those are things that are IMPOSSIBLE on an FPS. I\'m sorry Jumpman, but I loved Metroid for the sweet ass moves you could do, not blowing up enemies and using an all new keycard system.
You can say "oh, but it\'s by the creators of half-life," and crap like that, but it won\'t save it and give Samus her feel that she had in her 2D predecessor. They\'re going to nab the Metroid franchise, make it an FPS, minus of course the flair that made it metroid, and drop it on us players. In TPS, at least we had the possibility of all those moves returning to the franchise, but now, that\'s just pretty much an impossibility. Sad really, really sad.
-
If they build the game so you don\'t have to Double Jump, Screw Attack, Roll, or Grapple. It\'ll be fine. I\'m sure they can implement new moves for the FPS genre.
I bet they do include the Roll, Screw Attack, and Grapple though. Somehow, they will.
Anyway, can you imagine doing a dash, or jump dash, busting through rocks and plowing through enemys in FPS! It\'s going to be fukkin sweet!

Yep.
You can say that Nintendo took Mario and even Zelda into new dimensions, but the gameplay style allowed that. Metriod does not allow the classic style to be as a FPS. No game does. How the hell do you do the double jump, rolls, etc with a FPS game? You can\'t!
In the perfect world Metriod would still be a 2D game. But I could of lived with a TPS style. FPS? NO way!
If Nintendo makes a FPS version of Pokemon, I\'ll be interested. A FPS Metriod is just disgusting though.
And what new franchises? Pokemon hardly counts as new anymore.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.Here I go again:
Nintendo made Retro turn it into a FPS. Obviously it didn\'t work as a TPS because if it did then it would still be one. A TPS wouldn\'t feel like Metroid either, only 2D work of worked. Metroid was dead when it became 3D.
So you can do the old moves on a TPS,so what.It didn\'t turn out too well I guess because Nintendo changed it!!!
You all should be happy that it got changed. If they left it in TPS then it would of sucked. Now atleast the game itself will be good, stop complaining.
Besides,there\'s always Metroid for GBA!:D

A TPS for Metroid could have worked, maybe not as well as 2D, but much better then an FPS in any case while still maintaining the classic moves. I would have prefered a TPS over everything else (except 2D of course).
As for your comments, "so you can do the old moves in TPS, so what," well, that pretty much defeats the purpose of calling it metroid now doesn\'t it? The game is based on some great moves and power ups for jumping, swinging, rolling, and many other things, but those things just can\'t be done in a FPS. The whole point of wearing the suit was because it allowed her to breathe on the planet as well as do some really spectacular things that got her out of tough situations and allowed her to explore new areas, but now that it\'s a FPS, all physical changes are worthless. You can say "oh, here\'s the morph ball ability" but really it could just be a crouch button instead. That\'s lame.
Finally "if they left it in TPS, it would have sucked," so lemme get this one straight... Nintendo saw an unfinished project, scrapped it for something that is in a style even further less then Metroid, told them to start ALL OVER again thus negating the fact that it will NEVER make it to launch at this rate and then announce the change to a public who would generally much rather enjoy a game that was a TPS rather then an FPS... genius. I dunno, I get the feeling that everything Nintendo says, you hold it with high praise... kinda like how Ddaryl says, if Nintendo marketed a bag of **** to its gamers and slapped the name Nintendo on it or Rare, all the Nintendo fans would claim it to be the best smelling most innovative game ever. Come on, how can anyone be happy about this change simply because Nintendo says "it will b better"?

I hate to say it, but I agree. I get the feeling that you (Jumpman) would take anything Nintendo sold and say its the best thing ever. It won\'t even be metriod, \'cept with some characters and weapons.
Now, Metriod doesn\'t stand a chance for launch. It won\'t even be like Metriod, \'cept the franchise name and characters.
Don\'t get me wrong, I have alot of faith in Nintendo. But this wasn\'t a smart choice. This ranks up there with the cartidge format for the N64.
-
Where to begin...
A TPS for Metroid could have worked, maybe not as well as 2D, but much better then an FPS in any case while still maintaining the classic moves. I would have prefered a TPS over everything else (except 2D of course).
[/quote]
Which would you prefer: classic or better?
Bah,your post is really messed up. You seem to repeat a lot of your points twice,it\'s hard to reply when you do that.
Finally "if they left it in TPS, it would have sucked," so lemme get this one straight... Nintendo saw an unfinished project,
Nintendo was working on Metroid with Retro Studios, they were involved with every big game play decision,don\'t say they just came in and decided to srap it because that\'s not the case.
again thus negating the fact that it will NEVER make it to launch at this rate
Wrongo. This game still has a great chance at making the launch. The story and atmosphere will still remain the same, but all there doing is changing the game play. And how hard is it to make a FPS with the help of the guys who programmed Quake and Half-Life?
I dunno, I get the feeling that everything Nintendo says, you hold it with high praise... kinda like how Ddaryl says, if Nintendo marketed a bag of **** to its gamers and slapped the name Nintendo on it or Rare, all the Nintendo fans would claim it to be the best smelling most innovative game ever. Come on, how can anyone be happy about this change simply because Nintendo says "it will b better"?
Why do I trust Nintendo on this? I\'ll tell you why: Because they made one of the best third person games ever:ZELDA! And do I need to tell you how many years these guys have been in the gaming business and how much experience they have? Of course not. If they thought Metroid would of sucked as a TPS and would of been better as a FPS than I\'ll trust their judgement on that. I don\'t really care about it being Metroid ,as long as the game is good then I\'ll get it even if it doesn\'t follow in the foot steps of the previous versions. If it\'s better as a FPS than a TPS then good, I\'m happy then,I like FPS,I find most TPS boring and crappy anyway.
So you think I believe everything Nintendo says Ryu and Living-In-Clip? HA. You guys are jumping to conclusions. Just because I one measly thing you I believe every little thing that comes out of their mouth...just because of this whole metroid thing...HA again.
I think I\'ll go buy a 64DD now just because Nintendo said it was going to be revolutionary.
-
Don\'t go back to your old ways Jumpman.
-
I\'ve never been a huge Nintendo fan, expecially for all the crap they put Sega through in the 8 & 16 bit days, but if there was only one game they created that I would thank god in heaven for allowing them to create.. it would be Metroid. The gameplay was fast, furious, fun, and engrossing.. mostly due to the wide array of kick ass powerups and special moves which helped you deal with the enemies comming at you from all directions. All that\'s lost now with the change from TPS to FPS.
I gotta agree with Ryu and Livin, I think it\'s a terrible move. You say they don\'t have more than two or three points that they keep repeating.. that\'s because they care about the classic gameplay.. because that\'s what makes it Metroid. Perhaps a FPS would be better.. but that\'s not the point and for some reason you just refuse to accept that. Metroid is DEAD if they make it into a FPS.. because the core gameplay will be dead.
Key example: King\'s Quest. (Yes, I\'m going to talk about Sierra again, stop groaning and bear with it.) The first seven games were adventure titles, where the main gameplay existed around talking to NPC\'s, picking up items, and solving puzzles to further the plot. This worked expecially well for the games and players knew exactly what to expect from the series... That\'s what made it a KQ game. In 1998 Roberta released KQ8: Mask of Eternity which involved a lot of action, very little puzzle solving, and almost no mention of the Royal family who were the protaganists in all the previous games. She thought she could sell more to a wider and more action oriented audience... but she was wrong. New players didn\'t really pick up well on the game and old players were so alienated by the way the series was desecrated that they wouldn\'t even buy it.. saying it wasn\'t a "true" KQ.
The point of the story is.. while KQ8 might have been a better game than the first seven.. it wasn\'t a King\'s Quest. It was a "Tomb Raider in funny clothing and fantasy world" as one ex-fan put it. A FPS metroid might be fun.. and it might even be a best seller.. but it\'s NOT Metroid because nearly everything that made it Metroid would be lost in the transition. For some reason you just aren\'t understanding that. You really can\'t argue with what they feel unless you can prove to them that all the classic moves and gameplay will make the trasistion.. and make the transition well. Right now.. you can\'t because there are no real solid gameplay details.. and as far as I can tell there is no way to make that transition to FPS without loosing the heart and soul of the series.
My vote.. Classic gameplay is always the best for a Classic series.
-
but that\'s not the point and for some reason you just refuse to accept that. Metroid is DEAD if they make it into a FPS.. because the core gameplay will be dead.
I never said Metroid would be the same. I was defending it\'s gameplay and how it was going to be better as a FPS, I never gave my opinion on whether it would/wouldn\'t be Metroid.
Really, how dumb do you guys think I am?(don\'t answer that) I own every ****ing Metroid game to date,of course I know a FPS Metroid wouldn\'t be Metroid. But I would rather have a great FPS over a descent TPS with the same feel as the older versions and thats what I\'m defending, not anything else.
One thing that will stay the same though-the atmosphere, and the dark story line...
-
It\'s definitely going to be a new metroid. And you all keep forgeting that Nintendo doesn\'t fuk up their products. Mario and Donkey Kong both made it into 3D perfectly, Metroid is still going to be awesome.
And like I said earlier, it\'s going to be built with moves for a FPS. And Nintendo knows how to innovate with the best. I\'m just making this up but imagine this:
Samus just laid a bomb in a bug infested room down in a deep cave. She has 2 minutes to get out. The way she came in is blocked by hordes of bugs, so she must find another way out. She starts to run down another pathway. She picks up full speed and is now dashing,(with the cool lighting effects) she bust through a rock wall and stops, now the bomb has gone off. It goes to a cut scene to show the bomb explode and there is a wall of fire headed towards her. So she has to start running again, she starts busting through multiple rock walls, and vaporizing enemies as she runs right through them. She see\'s a tall metal wall up ahead. So there\'s no way to go but up. While still running at full speed she reaches the end and dash jumps, it cuts to a cool matrix type scene that pans around her right as she lifts off the ground (still with the cool lighting effects), then she\'s headed upwards to the surface. Barely escaping the fire behind her.
But it\'s not over. The Big alien is mad that you killed all her children. The alien survived the explosion but is on fire and coming at you. It\'s a very tight enclosed arena setting. The walls are high and there\'s no where to jump that\'s safe to get a good shot. Samus has got a new gun, a new kind of grapple. (It\'s kinda like a lasso, that once it\'s around it\'s enemy, it temporarily stuns them. But Samus herself has got to complete the lasso by circling the enemy).( it would also be a way to gather multiple enemies at the same time) Samus shoots her lasso grapple (temp name:)) and gets a hold on the enemy, she strafes around the alien and completes the lasso. The Big alien is temporarily stunned and vulnerable...
care to finish it...
Doesn\'t it get you just a little excited as to what they might be doing with it. I KNOW for a fact it\'s not going to be as dull or ordinary as say, DOOM.
-
Yes Ginko! I\'m glad someone finally see\'s the light of this surprising move.

Nice. The atmosphere is still there I see...
care to finish it...
I will!!!
Continued...
Samus gets knock down and the alien grabs the advantage. Then came the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and they give the big alien an ass woopin!
:D

LOL!!
-
dang that remined me a lot of the movie Aliens
yea the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are invincible - you just cant beat them - they will match anyone anywhere
ahhh the turtles where have you all been?

uhm. Donkey Kong did not make the 3D move well. It was pretty bad actually.
Your right though Jumpman. It may make an excellent FPS. But, it won\'t be Metriod. They are messing with perfection and the results won\'t be nice. It needs more then the dark storyline and name to be an actual Metriod title.
My opinion: This is Nintendo\'s first actual move to targeting the "mature auidence".
I can only imagine the brainstorm discussion they had when this move was made...
And did I see someone say Nintendo and innovate in the same sentence?
And no, I don\'t hate Nintendo. I am buying a GBA.
-
uhm. Donkey Kong did not make the 3D move well. It was pretty bad actually.
Well, thats all a matter of opinion. I for one loved DK64, I thought it was a brilliant game in every aspect.
Your right though Jumpman. It may make an excellent FPS. But, it won\'t be Metriod. They are messing with perfection and the results won\'t be nice. It needs more then the dark storyline and name to be an actual Metriod title.
In the end,all that really counts is the gameplay, correct?
I think we should all wait to E3 before we start judging the game.
My opinion: This is Nintendo\'s first actual move to targeting the "mature auidence".
Acquiring Silicon Knights as a second party developer was the first move to get the older age group actually...
And did I see someone say Nintendo and innovate in the same sentence?
You earned a

Living-in-Clip,
what happened, I don\'t remember you being such a troll all the time??
Anyway, I for one thought Dk64 was better than the 2D sidescrollers. The jet pack was cool, swining on vines was done perfectly, the environements were bigger than anything ever seen, and it had the same kinda atmosphere. It did make the transistion, but that\'s my opinion I guess.
As for Nintendo being innovators, that was me. Who made the "buddy game",Banjo? Rare did, but it\'s under a Nintendo Liscense. Also, Sega said it themselves that Nintendo has got a great lineup of original content and continuing franchises. Sega is the innovator and shaker of the industry. If Sega says they have orginal and content and they are excited by it, then it must be something wickedly good!!

Troll? You better call more then half the people in this thread trolls for disagreein\' with you.
Metriod may make a fine FPS. But its not Metriod. Its just another FPS game. Apparently, it is to much to ask of Nintendo to quit shooting themselves in the foot.
Donkey Kong 64? Ick! But Jumpman said it best, it was a matter of opinion. I personally found the game extremely boring. And it was not original in the least.
I love Nintendo franchises, but if Nintendo handles the GC like they did the N64 it will be a diaster. Metriod was one of the main reasons for me being a GC, but that is pretty much gone. Make no mistake, I\'ll still buy one, but I\'m not excited about the GC as much as I was.
(goes back to humming the praise of the GBA and forgets about the GC..*sigh* )

Well, thats all a matter of opinion. I for one loved DK64, I thought it was a brilliant game in every aspect.
I thought you said you didnt like this games? Am i the only one that liked DK better on the super nintendo? Anyways IS THEIR A WAY THAT THEY CAN MAKE METROID A FPS AND A TPS?

Nope, I also loved the Super Nintendo Donkey Kongs. Wow, it brings back memories...the days when I actually had respect for Nintendo.
And my oppinion about the Metroid game being a FPS:
Like many have already said, this is one of the biggest mistakes Nintendo could have made! Metroid was one of the few games that would keep the Gamecube alive against the Xbox and the PS2, but now I don\'t think the Gamecube has a chance. I can\'t immagine Metroid as a FPS -- and I\'m sure that everyone who is old enough to actually remember the original Metroid would agree.
Nintendo has dug their grave. All they need now is a little push from the PS2 (MGS2, US FFX, Baldur\'s Gate) and they will be buried once again. Rest In Peace, Nintendo. Rest In Peace.

I\'m trying really hard to not call you an idiot for just saying that. Leaving it in TPS would of been worst, why? Because the game obviously wasn\'t turning out so well. Forget the name Metroid. Fact is,TPS don\'t sell well in America(where Metroid is being focused),a Metroid in FPS form would have better sales. This move was about quality and money...

How do you know that the game "obviously wasn\'t turning out so well." Maybe developers have always planned for the new Metroid to be a FPS.
Everyone who was excited for this game when they first heard of it were expecting it to be like the original -- not a completely different genre. I think the developers should be the ones who "forget the name Metroid" and name it something else so less people are dissapointed.
Metroid was one of the few games that would keep the Gamecube alive against the Xbox and the PS2, but now I don\'t think the Gamecube has a chance.

Metroid was one of the few games that would keep the Gamecube alive. It is not the only one, but now there is one less, which isn\'t good for the Gamecube and it\'s small amount of games.
Fact is? Where are your sources? And if that is true, it\'s because developers in the past haven\'t done it right. Metroid could have been the game to change that reputation, but the developers took the easy way out and I think they are going to pay for it.
I can\'t immagine Metroid as a FPS -- and I\'m sure that everyone who is old enough to actually remember the original Metroid would agree.

But it DOES matter -- you missed my point. Think about all of the people who were really looking forward to this game. Think of all the people that were going to get the Gamecube because they loved the original Metroid so much. Now what is their motivation to get the Gamecube? RE:0? What\'s the point when you can get RE4 on the PS2? SSX:SE? This is also coming to the PS2 by the end of the year. Mario? Yawn, \'nuff said.

Actually, yes, I would like.
Nintendo needed this game to have a chance against the PS2 and the Xbox. It is not going to be easy fighting against a system that has been out for almost two years that has tons of awesome games for it, a built in DVD player, backwards compatibility, and around 15 million units sold. Nor is is going to be easy fighting against a company that is known for it\'s attempt at world domination in the OS battle. Nintendo needs everything they can get to have a chance this time around, and without a real Metroid game, it\'s going to be that much harder.
Rest In Peace, Nintendo. Rest In Peace.
LOL! Thanks for the laugh.
[/b]
Um, sure. Anytime. I made a mistake though. That should say, "Rest In Peace, Gamecube. Rest In Peace." Because I also think the GBA is going to do well, and it will probably save Nintendo like Pokemon games saved them earlier.

"I\'m trying really hard to not call you an idiot for just saying that. Leaving it in TPS would of been worst, why? Because the game obviously wasn\'t turning out so well. Forget the name Metroid. Its all about the quality." - Jumpman
Why would leaving Metroid as a TPS make it crappy? Their current build could have been junk.. but that dosen\'t mean Nintendo couldn\'t have put the pressure on to rebuild the game on a different engine while keeping it a TPS. I know quite a few TPS\'s are fun.. just because their one engine sucked they think, and now they\'ve gotten you to think, that TPS\'s in general suck.. therefore a TPS Metroid would have sucked? What total BS.
You were right about the marketing part though. The entire move was probably made in order to meet the right demographic... to hell with quality or fanbases. All they seem to care about is weither or not the game sells well.. even if that means destroying everything that made Metroid an excellent title to begin with.
I\'m just really surprised that someone who\'s been a fan of the series "From the beginning" like you would welcome such an obviously unoriginal and devestating move like this. What their trying to do is like Sega making Shinobi a FPS, or AfterBurner into a SIM.. that\'s just not right and it\'s going to kill people\'s hopes of playing a new "true" Metroid title.
The fact is, that unless you can guantee us that the Metroid gameplay will make the trasition to FPS very well.. then you shouldn\'t even be calling this game a Metroid. Call it, a spin-off or just a "New FPS based in Metroid universe" instead.
Nintnedo COULD have put the work into the game to make it an EXCELLENT TPS Metroid title.. but they didn\'t. From my point of view, you\'ve just fallen victim to the spin doctors who have taken a greedy attempt to increase Nintendo\'s bottom line and candy coated it enough to keep "Joe Blow Gamer" from choking on all the crap trying to be shoved down their throats. Sorry but that\'s just how I feel. Nintnedo could have done it.. but they didn\'t. They just gave up.. gave up on Metroid, it\'s fans, and gamers in general with this move they made solely in hopes to increase profit.
Where was all that damned "Innovation" that Nintnedo keeps getting credited with when Metroid was laying on the cutting room floor?????

Why would leaving Metroid as a TPS make it crappy?
Really, TPS suck royal Jumpman. Look at Jet Force Gemini, Metroid probably would of turned out something like that... thanks god they made it into a FPS.
I\'ve already said everything that needed to be said. This topic deserves to be closed because I find repeating myself several times becomes extremely irratating.

Banjo-Kazooie-the most underated game on the N64. I think it\'s the best 3D platform game ever(with Mario 64 coming in at a close 2nd). I really hope Rare makes another one of these because their truly amazing games.
DK 64 kicks Banjo Kazooie\'s a$$ anyday IMO. And I said IMO so don\'t flame me.

One of the Few games that will keep GameCube alive... I\'m too lazy to read post my list, read it again then shut up.

Settle down Jumpman. There is no need to get rude. Here is the list:
*Metroid -- Does not deserve to be called Metroid. Nintendo really screwed this up by changing the whole genre. They could have had something really cool, and something really innovative, but they took the easy way out instead.
*Mario -- Yawn. Another Mario game. Yippee.
*RE:0 -- I\'ll take RE4, thankyou. And while I\'m waiting for RE4, I\'ll be busy playing RE:CV. :)
*SSX:SE -- This will kick butt, I can\'t argue with that. There are two problems though. 1. It\'s also coming to the PS2. 2. Sacrifices will have to be made in order for it to work with the controller (There\'s not enough grab buttons). I am interested in seeing what the developers do to fix this problem.
*1080 2 -- What\'s the point when you have SSX:SE?
*Rogue Squadron 2 -- Nope, I don\'t like flight games that much.
*Wave Race 2 -- This game will probably be cool. The only problem I had with the first one was the horrible sound/music. Now that it\'s on a CD type format, it can be done right.
*Eternal Darkness -- ??? - Not sure what this is, and I couldn\'t find any info on it.
*Too Human -- ???
*Dinosaur Planet -- ???
*After Dark -- ???
*Thornado -- ???
See, the problem with the list is that there are zero fighting games! We all saw this coming when we first saw the NGC controller, so I\'m not surprised at all. Until there is a fighting game on the list, I am not impressed. There are some games that I don\'t know about on the list, and cube.ign.com had no info on them, so I couldn\'t tell you what I think about them.
Gid I can\'t wait till E3. Then we\'ll see this whole " Nintendo has no games" argument shut down.
[/b]
I never knew you could see the future. I think there is a little speculation on your part.
Now what is their motivation to get the Gamecube? RE:0? What\'s the point when you can get RE4 on the PS2? SSX:SE? This is also coming to the PS2 by the end of the year. Mario? Yawn, \'nuff said
Again, read my list. And thats only the games we know about.
That really sounded like something a troll would say by the way.
[/b]
Sorry, I don\'t follow. What sounded like "something a troll would say?" All I said was my oppinion on some of the games on the list. Isn\'t that why you gave us the list in the first place, so we could tell our oppinions on the games?
Nintendo needed this game to have a chance against the PS2 and the Xbox.
*sigh* I can\'t believe you just said that...
The name alone will sell a lot of copies.
[/b]
Once again, I don\'t follow. Are you talking about the "Nintendo" name, or the "Metroid" name. If you are talking about the Metroid name, that is why I said the developers should change the name. They are deceiving the constomers into buying a false Metroid game. If you are talking about the Nintendo name, that is obviously not the case. Look at the N64 vs the PSX.
K I can\'t argue with these troll remarks, they make my mind go num. Please try to actually bring up DESCENT point next time you post. Then maybe I\'ll take you seriously.
[/b]
I don\'t think I\'m the one having problems bringing up a decent point. You keep on throwing us this list of sub-par games that only the greatest of Nintendo lovers could love. Once again, I am not impressed with the lineup.
I\'ve already said everything that needed to be said. This topic deserves to be closed because I find repeating myself several times becomes extremely irratating.
Then maybe you should stop repeating yourself. You still haven\'t given me the three games on the NGC that can match FFX, Baldur\'s Gate, and MGS2, which will be coming out at around the same time the NGC is released. Don\'t go back on your word, I want to see these games that you said you would show me.
-
Ah,my mind is in a state of readiness, it\'s time to end this pathetic argument once and for all. Rest in peace Sony *****es, rest in peace...
*Metroid -- Does not deserve to be called Metroid. Nintendo really screwed this up by changing the whole genre. They could have had something really cool, and something really innovative, but they took the easy way out instead.
Um, who says they still can\'t be innovative with a FPS Metroid? Nintendo is the master of coming up with new and brilliant ideas, the\'ll think of something extraodinary to not make this game "just another FPS",but a revolutionary FPS!
I\'ve already said this several times but I\'m forced to repeat myself. A TPS Metroid would of followed it\'s old ways but it would of been extremely hard to do. All TPS usually end up like crap so why wouldn\'t they make the smart move and turn it into a FPS? FPS sell better than TPS do...they play better...in case you don\'t get it yet, they ARE superior!
So what if it isn\'t Metroid, leaving it as a TPS would of been worse. Everyone would of been so hyped up and then when they bought it they would be like, "God this game was a let down". But instead, now they can actually make the game better than before.
I hope this little bit ends this whole Metroid argument. I thought I could do it on my own but I guess you people just forced me to use the facts straight up!
IGNCUBE-
Metroid First-Person Exploration
So is this now "set in stone" that Metroid is going to be a FPS? If so, that\'s really too bad. I\'ve always been a huge fan of Metroid due to the unique gameplay style and it\'s great presentation. But how is Metroid still Metroid as a FPS? It isn\'t, it still might be a great game like GoldenEye, but it still isn\'t Metroid IMHO.
The Japanese don\'t like FPS do they? I wonder if because Metroid wasn\'t that popular in Japan, but it was in the US - and since FPS are popular in the US, but not Japan - they figured let\'s have Metroid be a FPS for the US. Best of both worlds, right? Bah!
So is there any light for us old school Metroid fans that don\'t really like FPS anymore? I got burned out on Doom 2 and Quake in college...
Fran responds: You know, as each day passes by I feel more and more guilty that we labled the game as an FPS without going into more detail. The problem, of course, is that we don\'t have many details. What we know so far indicates that Retro, Nintendo, and everyone involved with Metroid know just as well as you do that shooting did not make Metroid the brilliant franchise that it is. The main focus has always been starting with basic exploring and uncovering huge upgrades that allow you to do more. It is in the same vein that fighting enemies in Zelda is. They are merely hurdles to get by. The real meat of the gameplay is the puzzles and giant bosses. This is exactly the same for Metroid and the developers know. You underestimate them if you think otherwise.
Of course, moving to first-person makes jumping around and exploring a little different. Well, a lot different. Still, consider that the main problem first-person brings to the table is platforming. Retro may very well have some unique solutions that no one has thought of. This is a Nintendo game. Many once asked, "How are we supposed to fight enemies in Zelda if it\'s 3D?" The Z-lock solved everything. If my hunch is right, Retro is creating some very inventive camera tricks and lock-on methods. Perhaps when you use the grappling hook the camera will go to third-person. Perhaps jumping from platform to platform will be realized in level design? In Metroid, didn\'t you take one platform at a time? Look up above the nearest door to you and envision a platform above. It\'s not so hard to imagine jumping with the low gravity that Metroid\'s worlds have, is it?
Anyhow, I am no game designer, but I am one of the biggest fans there are. First-person definitely presents some problems, but it also presents some solutions. Walking down a thin tunnel with tons of creatures crawling after you(as seen in the GameCube demo) would definitely be better handled in first person. You would simply turn and shoot, instead of turning, aiming (which would switch to first-person anyhow), and then firing.
Give it some time, and I think you may find out that a 3D Metroid might be better off in first-person. The development teams have had the opportunity to explore BOTH third and first-person control. They chose first-person for a reason.
\'Nuff said about Metroid. We have a good long two pages about it there is nothing more we can say about it other than "smart move Nintendo.
*Mario -- Yawn. Another Mario game. Yippee.
I suppose you like Raymen 2 for PS2 then don\'t you?
Listen,Mario is Nintendo\'s biggest system seller, you may not like it but it\'s gonna be tha bomb for all of us unbiased people. Mario is knowned for it\'s quality.
*RE:0 -- I\'ll take RE4, thankyou. And while I\'m waiting for RE4, I\'ll be busy playing RE:CV.
*sigh*
RE:4 has already been announced for NGC. So that means Nintendo gets a new exclusive version and PS2 gets RE:CV. Oh joy joy,who wants a game we\'ve already played and loved before? RE:0 is going to be a prequal,it\'s going to tell the true story behind the RE series, quite frankly its a must have title for all the major RE fans.
SSX:SE -- This will kick butt, I can\'t argue with that. There are two problems though. 1. It\'s also coming to the PS2. 2. Sacrifices will have to be made in order for it to work with the controller (There\'s not enough grab buttons). I am interested in seeing what the developers do to fix this problem.
Don\'t you worry about the controller, no freaking sacrafices are necassary, it has arguably the best button layout out of all the next-gen controller(if you want to battle about that then be my guest,I know I can\'t lose, how can you not understand it?)
*1080 2 -- What\'s the point when you have SSX:SE?
1080 was always thought to be the best snowboarding game until SSX. I think on a CD format then it will have no problem showing EA how to make a real snowboarding game. The N64 has it\'s limits, but GODs allow for over 100 times more space than cartridges, think about that.
Rogue Squadron 2 -- Nope, I don\'t like flight games that much.
Good for you! Tell that to the people who\'ve played the first one. RS on the N64 was awesome, it was loved by all the major sites and now with one coming to GameCube it will be 100 times better than the previous one.
Wave Race 2 -- This game will probably be cool. The only problem I had with the first one was the horrible sound/music. Now that it\'s on a CD type format, it can be done right.
So,you actually played Wave Race to make a comment on it, good job.
*Eternal Darkness -- ???
*Too Human -- ???
*Dinosaur Planet -- ???
*After Dark -- ???
*Thornado -- ???
BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!
Oh dear god your pathetic. These are the systems sellers right here, and you have absolutely nothing to say about them ! Go figure.
Too Human- MGS2 KILLER BABY!*note* This applies to the argument you mention later in your post, I\'ll just use this and one other as an example.*
You don\'t remember Too Human? It was suppose to be a 4 disks PSX game at first. Everyone had high hopes for this games, many people thought that Silicon Knights was the next best developer out there. This game was supposed to push the pSX\'s power to the max. Then they became a Nintendo second party!:D This game was going to have over 80 hours of game play and was said to have a better story line than both FFXII and MGS.
Check out IGNCube\'s preview for more information on this great looking GameCube only game.
http://cube.ign.com/previews/15333.html
Eternal Darkness was going to be N64\'s violent and disturbing game..until it was coming to NGC. This game is also made by second party Silicon Knights and also has high expectations for it.
Dinosaur Planet- a game thats being made by the famous Rareware. It was showened at E3 and everyone was blowned away from it\'s stunning graphics and details. Definately a system seller.
After Dark- From the creators of Goldeneye...need I say more? This is a sequal to an awesome FPS that was almost perfect. This game will be the FPS to get at launch day, along with Metroid that is! Its going to be interesting to see which is better, very interesting indeed. :)
Thornado- Factor 5\'s breakout game. It was showned at Spaceworld and was said to be the best looking game there. Its an action shooter with a dark theme,I can\'t really say more about it but since\'s it\'s coming from a great developer I can almost garantee that this game will be great.
As for the Buldars Gate killer...see Too Human, Thornado, After Dark, Dinosaur Planet, Metroid, and Eternal Darkness. Face it, it\'s just a good looking game on a system that is hard to program for, you guys shouldm\'t get too hyped up on this one. GameCube will have better graphics, so it looks like Baldurs Gate will be nothing.
Now for the FFX killer...I\'ll give you this one. Too Human has a chance a it but not bloody likely. Enjoy your one game that you will have over GameCube, because it will be your last(I had to say that).
But...this game might be coming to GameCube. Did you hear that recent Square announcement, well if you didn\'t tell I\'ll explain it to you right here: Square will bring two games to NGC(check out that topic). FFX might be one of them, and FFXI might be the other one!(keep reading that topic).
Even if they don\'t come to NGC, we still have Zelda! :P
God who gives a **** about fighting games? They don\'t sell very well anyway, I hope Nintendo doesn\'t concentrate on fighting games AT ALL.
But the\'ll come anyway. Namco is developing for them as wel is Sega. We will observe some great fighting games on GameCube, don\'t worry, E2 is almost there.
Don\'t even start on the controller. IGNCube clarified everything \'bout that.
I never knew you could see the future. I think there is a little speculation on your part
You underestimate the GameCube and it\'s developers... EA, Ubi Soft,Namco, Sega, and others, have all confirmed support. We\'ll see them at E3 with Nintendo. Nintendo will have plenty of games for NGC,this isn\'t the N64 after all.
Sorry, I don\'t follow. What sounded like "something a troll would say?" All I said was my oppinion on some of the games on the list. Isn\'t that why you gave us the list in the first place, so we could tell our oppinions on the games?
You were putting PS2 on a pedistole and NGC on the ground for god\'sakes. You were trying to make PS2 look good and NGC look bad, thats something a troll would do.
Look at the N64 vs the PSX
When people see Metroid in stores, the\'ll flip, even if it\'s a FPS and even if it\'s not really a Metroid. This game is going to sell more as a FPS than a TPS,thats one of the reaons that Nintendo changed it.
I don\'t think I\'m the one having problems bringing up a decent point. You keep on throwing us this list of sub-par games that only the greatest of Nintendo lovers could love. Once again, I am not impressed with the lineup.
Sub-par? HA! Just because your too blind to see the good of NGC don\'t try and make it sound like a fact dood.
I just gave you the games. But I guess I was acting a little foolish...you will always think that MGS2,FFX, and Baldurs Gate are better than anything I will mention. Your a fanboy. I can\'t change your uneducated opinion on this matter so there is no true point on me telling you which game is better. You\'ll never believe me. You\'ll never admit it. You will always think the same way,but I don\'t care. When NGC comes around your going to be the one missing out,not me.
Thanks for playing.

Wow, why are we still talking about this... Jumpman could write a novel on Metroid being an FPS!
-
I have some things to say before this topic is lost in the mess of thousands of dead topics (I agree that this has gone on long enough :)).
Metroid being a TPS vs a FPS. This is obviously a personal oppinion and we will never come to an agreement about whether Nintendo made a good choice or not. And the fact is is that none of us will know until it is released. Nintendo could make it a really cool FPS, but they could also screw up big time (kind of like Square and The Bouncer. I think even you bought into the hype ;) It was hard not to.) It\'s ok to be looking forward to Metroid, but just remember, anything can happen. It could turn out really crappy for all we know.
Another thing I want to point out is that you posted all of those games, but there is almost no info on any of them. Hardly any (if any at all) screen shots. The previews about them are just saying how great these games will be (like they know it as fact) -- even though they don\'t have any good reason to say all these great things about the games because they really don\'t know that much about them.
You are right that I should wait until E3 before I judge the Gamecube, but I think that you should do the same. Wait for some real footage of the games. Don\'t buy into the hype. It will kill you in the end.
[/b]
I haven\'t played RE:CV yet. I have always wanted to, but I never got a Dreamcast (I bought a computer instead :)). So I am really excited for RE:CV coming to the PS2. There is even supposed to be some new things in it that were not in the Dreamcast version, which makes me want this game even more.
Don\'t you worry about the controller, no freaking sacrafices are necassary, it has arguably the best button layout out of all the next-gen controller(if you want to battle about that then be my guest,I know I can\'t lose, how can you not understand it?)
[/b]
Come on Jumpman, it\'s me, IronFist. You and I have already had topic after topic debating which controller is the best, and look where it got us - nowhere. I like the PS2/PSX dual shock controllers, you like Nintendo\'s controllers. Let\'s not get into the controller argument again. :)
After Dark- From the creators of Goldeneye...need I say more? This is a sequal to an awesome FPS that was almost perfect. This game will be the FPS to get at launch day, along with Metroid that is! Its going to be interesting to see which is better, very interesting indeed.
[/b]
Timesplitters was also made by the Goldeneye team, and it kicks butt! If there is a FPS game to anticipate, I would guess that After Dark will be the winner because of the developer\'s experience in FPS games.
[/b]
You don\'t understand why I chose Baldur\'s Gate as one of the three games. It\'s not because of the graphics, even though they are really nice. It\'s because Baldur\'s Gate games kick butt! The D&D style gameplay is really fun. Finally, a great PC rpg is coming to the PS2. I can\'t wait to play the final product.
God who gives a **** about fighting games? They don\'t sell very well anyway, I hope Nintendo doesn\'t concentrate on fighting games AT ALL.
[/b]
Just because you don\'t like fighting games, doesn\'t mean they don\'t sell well. The video game world does not revolve around you. Tekken Tag Tournament has been in the "top ten PS2 best selling list" every week since it was released. Like it or not, fighting games are a huge genre in the video game industry.
Your a fanboy. I can\'t change your uneducated opinion on this matter so there is no true point on me telling you which game is better. You\'ll never believe me. You\'ll never admit it. You will always think the same way,but I don\'t care. When NGC comes around your going to be the one missing out,not me.
[/b]
You should probably think before you start calling people fanboys -- Make sure you are not one yourself. I love every console except for the N64. I used to be a Nintendo fan, but the N64 made me change my ways.

I\'ll laugh pretty hard if Gamecube gets screwed over because of some stupid things Nintendo changed in their original games...Whats next? An FPS Yoshi game?
-
This is retarded. You\'re justifying a move by Nintendo because of what they have done with past franchise games and that just doesn\'t apply to Metroid in any way, shape or form. The fact is, you can call it Metroid, but it won\'t be the same. Metal Gear, Mario, and Zelda ALL made it to 3D while maintaining ALL of their great gameplay elements that made them extremely fun. The FPS is so different in so many ways that maintaining all the gameplay elements of the first Metroid is impossible. You can say what you want about innovation and Nintendo being great, but I think this stinks of ****. I\'d be happier if they left the Metroid series ended as is and changed the name of the game they have in development to something that is more crowd pleasing. Nintendo can tke their innovation and stick it where the sun dont shine and that\'s the way I feel about it when it comes to a game called something simply because it would sell more copies of the title (Resident Evil Gun Survivor.)

I bet that would include the world\'s third ever mouth-cam in a game, with a glorious view of Yoshi\'s yucky sticky tongue that flings in and out of his mouth to catch all kinda stuff. That would quite much rock, yeah. I\'d also like to see a Mario mouth-cam in SM128, might be interesting.

I guess it will be Metroid after all, now everyone has no reason to complain.
Metroid a First Person Adventure?
New details emerge regarding Retro Studios\' highly anticipated Metroid GameCube title.
February 23, 2001
Last week IGNcube reported that Retro Studios forthcoming GameCube version of Metroid was a first-person shooter. Since that time new details have emerged from sources at Nintendo of America that tell a slightly different story. It seems the game is, in fact, a First Person Adventure. Confused? Let us explain the subtle, but important separations beginning with a summarized history of the game\'s often altered design.
Last year Retro Studios started work on a third-person action adventure starring a voluptuous beauty. The game, described by one anonymous source as "something out of the Danger Girl series," was changed to a first-person shooter at some point during design because it was simply too ambitious. Because so many of Retro\'s designers had worked previously with first-person shooters, it was decided that the title would transform to the genre as it would save time and would be easier to realize. Around this point, Nintendo stepped in and offered the firm its valuable Metroid license. Retro accepted, and began adapting the title to make use of Samus\' eerie universe. Internal conflicts regarding whether the game should be a third- or first-person title led to the resignation of Metroid\'s former project leader. Input from Nintendo\'s own Shigeru Miyamoto, who has long felt that third-person action titles cannot be executed properly in 3D, helped solidify Metroid\'s genre change to first-person point of view. Shortly after the dust settled, the title progressed rapidly forward. Now, after recent layoffs and group restructuring, the Metroid project has a bigger team than ever before -- 11 programmers, three designers, and a wealth of talented artists. This brings us up to date on what\'s happening.
Except, Metroid isn\'t exactly what many readers think. It\'s not a shooter so much, say sources, as it is an adventure in first-person view -- an FPA if you will -- and not entirely at that either. Retro Studios is working to retain the true feeling of the Metroid license in first-person 3D. That means that the main character will still have the abilities that Samus remains famous for -- everything from the option to upgrade armor and weaponry to special attacks, spins, rolls, grappling hook features, and more. The game\'s design allows for an optional third-person view to take advantage of these features when the situation calls for it. It is believed that the third-person view is not something that can be toggled by the player, but rather is executed automatically depending on the area and task in the game.
Retro has allegedly been devoting a good amount of its programming resources to creating a balanced level of primary first-person adventure play and third-person camera mechanics where necessary. It is an ambitious endeavor, the possible upstart of a branched out genre, and if it\'s a successful attempt it\'s bound to be copied by others in the future.
"I think [the Metroid team] has a good chance of skipping by some of the pitfalls of the FPS genre," a source told us under the condition of anonymity. "They\'ve got some really innovative ideas for jumping, targeting, movement, and camera."
Despite recent layoffs, moral for the project seems very high. "They have folks who\'ve worked on Half-Life and the Turok series among others on that design team," relayed the source. "Consumers will just need to keep an open mind. If so they may be pleasantly surprised in the way that GoldenEye came along and shattered expectations for FPS console games."
The game will be shown for the first time at the coming Electronics Entertainment Expo.
:p
Number one anticipated GameCube game- Metroid.
I hate being right all the time, its like a curse.

Good.

I\'m going to move this up so Ryu and LIC can see it. They were the ones complaining the most and it\'s only fair if they gave their opinions again.

My opinion still hasn\'t changed. Shoot in FPS, walk in FPS, jump in FPS, roll in TPS... although one part of that article did strike me as kind of absurd...
The game\'s design allows for an optional third-person view to take advantage of these features when the situation calls for it. It is believed that the third-person view is not something that can be toggled by the player, but rather is executed automatically depending on the area and task in the game.
So, only in certain areas and for certain uses can I roll? I can\'t just simply use it to speed my way through a certain section of a level? "Depending on the area and task in the game" ... That\'s like having a chair in your house but never sitting in it until told. I still remain skeptical about it. They are "working to retain," but also attempting to contain that which made metroid fun. This isn\'t news that\'s going to make me jump for joy until I see it pulled off SUCCESSFULLY on the NGC. Going from TPS to FPS at the use of an item, but only for certain situations as the game dictates, just sounds very... odd.
