just so you know.. i am getting it tomorrow as well!, i am just curiouse if anyone has read and article or something that say or implies that its an AAA game?
-
It looks pretty cool, but I am still saving for Dark Cloud and Zoe. Star Wars games aren\'t my favorite kind of games. Too many bad memories! :)
-
It seems like no one has played it yet. But have you read gamespot\'s review on it?
-
IGNPS2 should have a review up today on it :)
-
no i havent whats the link to gamespot?? and my answersmight just be answered, i have downloaded the files to have an interview with 2 creators of the game ,and they will reveale never before seen footage of the game and answer questions " my questions" and other peoples questions about the game if you are intrested in joining the interview go to ign.com and dl the stuff you need to join
-
the link to gamespot?
how about http://www.gamespot.com
Does anyone else rent games before you buy them? There are so many games that are complete let downs to me that I try to rent most of them. My only prob is my blockbuster hasn\'t gotten anything new in a while. Hopefully there will be a bunch of "Star wars bites" posts tomorrow, cause I can\'t afford to buy it right now. Dang taxes are going to kick my butt. I have to pay 2800 dollars this year. They didn\'t take out enough from my paycheck. TAXES SUCK!!
-
\'Hopefully there will be a bunch of "Star wars bites" posts tomorrow\'
DON\'T SAY THAT!!! Hopefully there will be a bunch of "Star Wars rules, HAA HAA!" posts tomorrow. :)
Also, I wasn\'t able to get to ign on time, can someone tell me some of the better parts of the interview?

What is an AAA game, just tell me what AAA stands for.

hahaha im sorry what i meant to say is if was an FSAA game lol
-
Hahaha... Well anyway AAA is a generic term used to describe a game that totally rocks, kicks a$$, must have, sell your first born to get it....etc..:)
-
haha i though AAA stood for FSAA, gues that clears up everyhting

For most reviewers, Gameplay encompasses control and replay value.
Graphics....well, eye candy, frame rate, artistic quality(which is purely subjective).
Sound - music, sound effects. This is actually quite important. A game can become quite bothersome when it\'s spewing some generic track you can\'t stand. Yet, a below average game like Shadows of the Empire held my interest because of the quality of Star Wars music. Sound Effects - Gran Turismo had REAL car engine sounds whic added to the realism of this AAA game.
-
ah i c thanky uo for your more "in depth" description, now i since i knoe what AAA stands for when i review it later i can see if it deserves that
-
Thanks... just another term I can add to my library.

its ok daly raDAR GAVE I A GOOD REVIEW AND I EXPECTED THEM TO FLAME IT TO HELL SEEING AS HOW IT WAS LUCAS ARTS PS2 but they gave it a great review

It doesn\'t mean the game is perfect. It just means that all three aspects have a favorable review of like 8/10 or 4/5.
-
I just played the game for an hour, the graphics really are something... real nice... I haven\'t paid a lot of attention to the sound, but it\'s nice, I heard a few memorable tunes in the background. The gameplay so far is just right, playing on normal difficulty. The only problem is I\'m on the 6th level already... I can definatly see playing this over many many times, and the secret levels will be a challenge to get. So far my rating is:
Graphics:A
Sound:A-
Gameplay:A-
I don\'t really like doing reviews, but I figured I owed you people that much...
Also, on my trip to the mall, I saw the GT3 demo, WOW that game looks awesome, better than I imagined! But I didn\'t get to play it much, which made me very mad.
On another side note EB made a mistake and credited me someone else\'s $50 but I was honest and I got jack squat in return :(
Oh well, at least I got a good game.
-
No way this game is AAA
The graphics are a b- at the very best. Again complete lack of textures hurts and there are jaggies again
Gameplay I would rate a B as well. Lots of confusion about what you need to do and how you go about doing it. Lack of radar means you automaitically have to play levels 10 or so time to get familiar with where enemies are at. I find it hard to believe the Star Wars universe doesn\'t have radar
Sound if preety good, I could give it an A- or a B+
I can\'t call this game a AAA title, cause I PS2 expectations are not being met again. SSX still reigns as my favorite PS2 game.
-
pffft what we need is a Star Trek game.Star Trek is so much better.
-
Well, I rate graphics based on what\'s out now, not some unrealistic expectations I made in my mind years ago. Also, I have no problem beating the levels, seems pretty straight-forward to me.
-
I have the game and while its no X-wing alliance it looks very nice. The only thing is I do not like the flight controls maybe I am a spoiled flight simmer but by the use of both hands to control my fighter take some getting used to. Overall its a good game kind of like rouge squadron.

IGN REVIEW:
Presentation
The menus kick 10 flavors of @$$. The only knock here is that the load times before the start of a level are much too long. 8.5
Graphics
This is one of the best looking titles you\'ll find on PS2 right now. The explosions, general lighting effects and ship models look superb. Only real flaw is that it can be a bit choppy at times. 9.0
Sound
The voice acting is good and the sound effects and music are classic Star Wars stuff. 9.5
Gameplay
The control is tight, the missions are pretty diverse and the "sniper" feature should be in every space shooter released in the future. 9.0
Lasting Appeal
You can beat the basic game in a day, but there\'s so much more to it than that. It\'s also still fun to play after completing everything three or four times. 8.5
OVERALL SCORE (not an average)
9.0
and thats the IGN wrap.

I had no problem beating the 1st 7 levels I believe I\'m on 8 but I still don\'t feel like I know what I\'m doing and that removes some of the fun for me..
But as for expectations, you honestly can\'t tell me Starfighter is the kind of graphics you we\'re expecting from the PS2. Jaggies are present again, lack of texture details (although some ships and the canyon walls look pretty good), lack of terrain details. ALL this lack and it still has framerate issues
a game that is AAA will not have the above problems. And at $55 + a game I\'m not going to give a rating to something just because. The PS2 is capable of heluva alot more, and I will award those A\'s to games that acheive all of the above with gameplay.
As for Starfighter gameplay, I haven\'t fallen in love with it, I don\'t hate it, and I think its good, but I just don\'t think it the bomb
I\'m hoping the game grow on me as I become familiar with it, cause as I said above I\'m moving though the missions but I don\'t really feel I know exactly what I\'m doing and what / when to do it. I am gettin better at it, and its only been a day but thats my initial feelings

Uknown\'s review proved to be quite fufilling... he and many other people believe it is an AAA game, I have not played it yet.

Sounds like a rent-first for me...

SO I guess my opinion is BS then Billy. Hey I\'m no sheep and I\'m not going to tell you what you want to hear just to be with the in crowd. I\'m honest about my own opinions...
Alot of people think the game is good, I feel its a good game, but it still doesn\'t fulfill my PS2 expectations.
I definetly don\'t hate it, and I\'m hoping the more familair with the game and the controls I get, the better I will like it.
Graphics are good, and it is one of the better looking PS2 games, but that doesn\'t mean it has to be an A. When I am blown away and my jaw hits the ground thats an A, and that is definetly not happening with Starfighter, it has its strong point but also has some weak points
Gameplay is good, I would prefer faster moving/turning ships, and some sort of radar or overview to determine where my targets are, but this is something that I feel will not be a problem the more familiar I get with the game. I just get tired of playing a level 15 times to become familiar with where everything is so I can do it right eventually.
Sound is real good, and arguably deserves an A but I\'ll give it a B+.

I have to say i disagree with some of the lower reviews. This is an excellent game and the graphics are wonderful (for what is out now) this is still basiacally a first generation title and the textures on the canyon walls are awesome. The gameplay is straghtfoward and easy to grasp. You dont really need radar in this game as it is easy to cycle through your enemies or highlight them all at once and pick one. I have had no problems at all beating the levels on the medium difficulty and I havent tried hard yet. The explosions in this game are the best to date on the ps2 and the sniper zoom in function is an awesome feature. It is fixed power but gives you a nice close up view of ships that are very far off in the distance and you getto watch as you blow them to smithereens. The control in this game is very tight, i dont care what any review says! It is very easy to manuever your ship around and i had no prblems flying at break neck speeds through some of hte canyons in the game. The sound is top notch also and if you have a nice 5.1 channel surround system turn the rears all the way up and youll have a blast playing this game. I am really starting to believe that the audio in games is every bit as important as polys or textures in terms of drawing you into the gaming world and starfighter does this in spades. Also the game seems to go on around you even if you do nothing which is another nice thing that makes you feel that you are part of a cause and not just one lone starship versus the world. There are also commands that you can give your squad mates sorta like x-squad except for these ones work. I targeted a large dropship and then hit up on the d=pad and my squadmates immediately replied over the radio that they were converging on it. Just for fun i sat back and watched as they totally took apart the large dropship, it was a very pleasing moment for me.... well thats all for now and yes this is a aaa title for what we have to choose from and will probably hold up very nicely against some other space shooters that will be released in the future.

I\'ll post a full review when i beat the game tomorrow, shouldn\'t be too much longer, i\'m on mission 13.
-
I must say that I\'m having fun playing it so that means something. Does it fully show what PS2 is capable of? No. But it depends on how you look at it. If you go in expecting the game is going to be a showcase title your going to be disappointed. If you go in with a clean slate you\'ll be pleasantly rewarded. For me, it didn\'t matter because I love star wars to death. But fan or not if any of you are even remotely interested in the space-combat genre I say buy this game.
I must say though that I\'m not a fan of the controls in this game. It just feels a bit awkward and stiff; especially when you want to make quick turns in the game(feels like I\'m tryin\' to maneuver a big trailer around a tight street corner...well maybe not that bad). However the controls do grow on you and it doesn\'t intefere with me having fun(again, this is important). There\'s also a "slide" function you can excute with the brake and turbo buttons to execute a quicker turn.
Graphics?
Nice. Nice and Purty(intended mispelling here). The best? Not quite. It\'s a little rough around the edges if you catch my drift. Also there\'s some pop up. But who cares? The graphics all in all are still top notch and in my opinion next-generation. What is such a joy to watch is laser fire blasting around in space at blistering speed and watching ships in the distance dogfighting. Sweet.
Some other quibbles:
Again as was mentioned by ddaryl, where\'s the radar? Where am I going? This was a mistake. Even though I can find spacecraft this only happens by holding down the square button and hoping your target shows up on screen. Sorry, but I\'m not playing lotto here. I need radar.
Again also mentioned before is that sometimes you feel like you don\'t know what you\'re suppose to do in a given mission. However this is forgiving because after a couple of trials at a particular mission the environment becomes more familiar and the learning aspect of this adds to the fun. So scratch this. I guess it\'s not really a quibble.
I can\'t wait to see what Lucasarts does for a sequel because it can only get better. But again a nice effort from Lucasarts on their first PS2 title
