Last Saturday I was walking around Target in the electronics section looking at the PS2 games. I was trying to save up my money for ZOE\\GT3\\RF but I couldn\'t stand it anymore. I needed a new game, badly. I had money in my pocket and it needed to be spent. I had a serious urge to blow the crap out of someone, and playing Doom online just wasn\'t good enough. And since RF and GT3 had been delayed I said "Ah what the hell" and bought the game that I had my eye on before and had heard great reviews about on every site I went to. In other words, I bought TimeSplitters. This game is excellent. And since I had just bought a PS2 Multitap, it was even better. I invited a few friends over and played till 6 in the morning. Ah happy days. As ddaryl always says, its a good time to be a gamer.

yes it is isn\'t it
TS is best w/ friends, too bad all my friends live a thousand + miles away
-
Thats gotta suck. :(
When I have no friends around I just play with my little brother. Its hardly a challenge though.
Can\'t you just play with your wife? ;)
-
this may sound pathetic but its true, i have told you all this before, but i have no friends i just dont like the people that live around here, the only actual friends i have are my little brother, my girlfriend, and her homegirl, oh and this guy named mark, i dont mind not having friends it gives me time to do more personal stuff, like play my ps2 and get ont he comp, i dont need any friends, i moved here to get away from all that and just relax, i have bought a multitap a few days ago, this may sound wired as how i dont have any frineds, but my girl and my little bro as wll as his friends and my girls frineds, will want to play when they come over and we get drunk "without my little bro of course!", it will be a bash, i will have quake revolution as soon as it comes out, then it will be a good time to be a mutiplayer player gamer hehe.

I was thinking the exact same thing man.:D

My buddies are about 150 miles away. Brother-in-law is 30.
Timesplitters was alright but I just couldn\'t get used to that utterly weird controller config. After playing keyboard & mouse on my pc it just didn\'t hold a candle to it.
-
well, I guess I\'m not that unlucky afterall. Most of my friends live within 5 miles from me.

Nah, just the United States of America nO-One. It\'s a wee bit bigger than Iceland! :D
Damn, I can drive from one end of my country to the other in about 4-5 hours in train... heh
-
I know I think I was being sarcastic (I\'m not sure,I had just woke up)
But if he moved to a new city away from all his friends surely he has met new people (co-workers,neighbours etc..)
And it would take a bit longer than 4-5 hours to drive from one end of Iceland to the other (we have mountains and glaciers here).

Doom?? I thought Doom couldn\'t go online since there wasn\'t really any "Online" when it was released. Everything is Dial-up or Network. If there\'s a patch or a program to do it, let me know and I\'ll play ya a few times. How bout a match of DukeNukem3D, Rise of the Triad, or Terminal Velocity? I got Quake also, but I wouldn\'t be much of a challenge since I suck at it.

Yes, thats true. But see many people have created specialised programs for playing Doom online without using a LAN connection. You need ZDoom for most of them, but its a very small(like 10 megs) program.
There are a number of programs but my personal favorite is csDoom. You can get it here: http://csdoom.sourceforge.net
And here is the address for ZDoom(a source port required to play online): http://zdoom.notgod.com
I\'ve also heard some good reviews about DoomServ(another multiplayer Doom program). You can get it here: http://www.doomserv2000.com/
Oh, and for all things Doom, go here: http://www.doomworld.com
-
Thanks, I\'ll check out Zdoom and csDoom.. but heard you have to have a network card for them to work properly. Is that true, or can anyone with just a modem play Doom over the net? Doomserver looked like a good program, but when I installed it I kept getting runtime errors and crashes.
I figure if nothing else, I\'ll download the YPOD (Your Path of Destruction) DOOM TC for Quake and find a few other YPOD players out there.

Excellent choice Solid Snake 88. I\'ve had Timesplitters since the launch and me and my friends still play it quite often. It\'s one of the best multi-player games I\'ve ever played. And speaking of friends, I\'m lucky enough to have several that live within about a 15-20 minute drive from me, and many of my off nights are spent with them gaming. Sometimes we play TTT or TS and blow the hell out of each other, while at other times we just sit back and watch someone play DW2, Summoner, or one of the other games I have. As irritating as it can be, it can still be fun to have several of your friends watching you play and giving you \'helpful\' tips to keep you going...("Boy, that was stupid. What the hell did you open that door for? And why can\'t you pull off that combo like you said you could?")
-
Yes, I know I shouldn\'t be bringing back ancient threads, but there are a few things in this topic that I think need addressing.
First of all, no you do not need a LAN card to play doom online. I d/led doomServ and got the same problems, don\'t know why. Get csDoom. My csDoom player name is.......Solid Snake 88!!
Second of all, thanks RatLad. :D
