Title: How did you get over the \'green\' scart problem????
Post by: rlau1980 on February 27, 2001, 07:06:34 AM
I am desperate to find out how people have got over the green playback when using their scart lead to view DVD\'s on their PS2.  I don\'t have s-video connection but the AV-cables quality is crap!! Please help!!!!

Hmmm, I don\'t think they have. You can still use it for playing games though, it\'s \'just\' DVD\'s that go green.

If you have Scart, you can maybe use S-VHS via an S-
VHS/Scart Adapter like this:

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimage01.entertainment.conrad.de%2Fpix%2F350%2FG1%2F350060G1.JPG&hash=91772f8ab8fd8146949ed8f737a8a4814eb8c379)

Maybe your TV can handle the S-VHS via this Adapter...

...if not, then you have to see the DVDs with the AV Cable... SORRY !

Thanks \'THE EYE\'

Just one thing though.  The reason the screen goes green is because of the RGB signal.  Wouldn\'t this convert the S-Video signal back to RGB?  or am I being stupid?  Where would I get a converter like that?

I solved this little problem, I bought monstercables s-vhs cable and a gold plated adaptor, I actually got better picture with this one than with my RGB cable. I use this cable for both games and DVD, I have a 32" sony wide with super picture. If your Tv suports RGB it suports S-vhs.

Thanks Bossieman

When you say \'adaptor\', do you mean one like in the picture that THE EYE has posted?

When the signal transforms to s-vhs U cant get the RGB signal back. I have a really expencive TV and there is no lost in picturequality at all if U go for the monster cable with a gold plated adaptor. It is actually better. The signal is "clean" all the way.

Yes! But goldplated. Buy a gold plated if U dont want to lose picturequality.

Thats good news. My TV only has RGB scart and I heard that not all RGB Scart TVs can either use or benefit from SVHS but im not sure. I hope your right.

Also i\'ve heard about these scart adaptors but haven\'t been able to find one.

Another opinion / fact is that the SVHS quality is dependant on the TV. I\'ve heard some people say that using SVHS was about the same quality is compisite. However theres the opisite as in Bossieman\'s case who got it near RGB quality (RGB will always be better, its whether it is noticably better).

Finally electronic boutique have had Sony SVHS cables in for £19.99.

rlau1980, i may too get SVHS so let me know how it goes :). Good luck.

RGB is better than svhs, but a monstercable svhs easily wins over my cheap RGB cable, So if U can buy a goldplated RGB cable for the PS2 then U will get better quality than a goldplated s-vhs, but there is no one out.
The quality of cables is very important, every HIFI man knows that, and that is why Im going to by the monstercables optical cable for my PS2 when i can find it in this country.

I\'ve got myself sorted by obtainging a s-video lead and a scart block!  I can say that the picture quality was sharper than my Scart lead but the only problem was that my TV couldn\'t handle the signal and the picture came out black and white!!!!
