NVidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang last night revealed in a press conference (ostensibly to promote the GeForce 3 graphics chip) that the Xbox DVD drivers would include support for both Progressive Scan and HDTV output, high-end features currently missing from rival PlayStation2\'s feature list. Officials from Microsoft were unavailable for comment, but this does further clarify Microsoft\'s stance on DVD playback. Microsoft recently revealed that Xbox would ship without DVD playback as standard, and that the DVD feature would be enabled with the purchase of a low-cost driver/remote control package.

Yea I posted that earlier in another thread. Great news. The sad truth is that someone who has the cash for an HDTV will probably have enough dough to buy a dedicated progressive DVD player with fancy features. But hey, progressive games means a better chance MS will release a VGA-box for the Xbox (just as Sega did with DC).

That sucks.. Now I might have to buy an x-box. If I don\'t buy a progressive scan dvd player before hand... Hmmm I think I would rather just buy a progressive scan dvd player then to give MS my money... Well then

hmmm
call me stupid but what is progressive scan playback?
-
It scans progressivly duh :D

Thanks THX I knew quite a bit about progressive scan, but that article taught me a lot more. I appreciate it.. Now I don\'t really see a need for a progressive scan DVD player cause my Mitsubishi TV does do line doubling..
Thanks

As I said it scans progressivly

Is there anything THX doesn\'t know?
So how much $$ is low-price? The upgrade for DVD is what I\'m referring to. X-box sounds good but price and games are still what I\'m waiting to hear.

Oh yea, forgot to say I was j/k. :)
Kirath- Progressive scan > Line doubling. The only decent line doublers are bought seperately, externally from an HDTV. And those decent ones start at $5k (Faroudja makes great ones). Native progressive scan will always be better than line doubling/tripling/quatripling.

You hurt what\'s left of my feelings THX :D
You could have just answered "eat, drink and be merry" or something :D it would have been correct
