Title: I\'m back and I finally have a new pc
Post by: Seraphim Pride on February 27, 2001, 10:25:06 PM
I\'ve been gone for 3 months cuz my pc died a horrible death.  When I came home for lunch from computer school I nearly fainted upon seeing the Dell boxes piled on on top of another.  After rushing to CompuUsa to buy Black IceDefender and systemworks 2001.  I set up my Pentium 4 1.4 Ghz powerhouse.  I love the joys of broadband.  It\'s nice to be back online.  I just wanted to say hi and I can\'t wait for Oshima(Spelled right?) Since I finally got Untracked in SSX after 4 months.  Yeah I know I suck but It was worth it in my opinion.:D

I\'ve been so busy web surfing and writing that i forgot to check on my post.  AMD\'s are cool too I have nothing against them but I love my new pc :D It\'s kewl.  I\'m just happy that my cable modem works now since it was proven that since my old computer was such a piece of crap that was why it didn\'t work.

Dell only has Wintel systems.

I always build my own currently have

Tbird 800
Abit KT7-RAID
Ge-Force.2GTS
256 mb 133Mhz ram
IBM 7200 rpm 30gb
Sblive
Sony CPD-G400 19" (love it cost me an arm and a leg though)
AOpen HQ45 case

Soon replacing the Tbird with a 1,2 Ghz version.
GF.3 when it\'s released
Sblive is to be replaced with a Sblive Platinum or Philips Acoustic Edge.
Adding 256 mb of ram (You always need more ram right)
Another HD to set up some RAID action
Case to be replaced with an HQ08 full tower or maybe the Antec SX1030.

That\'s a pretty cool set up man. I forgot to mention the 12 DVD drive and the Sony 12x8x32 CDRW drive.  I wish I knew more about cpu hardware so I could build my own without getting ripped off.  Check this out my friend\'s cousin wants to get a 1.2 Ghz MAc(even released yet?)j with a DVDR-rom and a Terabyte Hard Drive, 1Gig of ram.  Does he really need that no he also wants 2 firewire ports, 2 agp ports and 3 pci slots.  I don\'t know what kind of board supports that kind of configuration but he has serious power issues.  plus he wants that GeForce 3 but he won\'t stop there he wants to try to somehow link 2 of them together for double the power.  I think he\'s trying to meltdown the mother board if you ask me....some people just have issues.

This guy is an idiot

The 1,2Ghz mac from Xtreme is just vapourware.It\'s almost impossible to overclock the G4 to these speeds (mpc7400 version) because the transistors can\'t handle it,they would melt.(There is more of a chance they could OC the newer mpc7450 because they have a 7 stage pipeline)but there is a serius shortige of them.

He wouldn\'t double the power by having 2 GF.3\'s they aren\'t designed that way.The only manufacturer to have support for more than one cores was 3DFX with their SLI technoligy they sold that technoligy before they went under. There isn\'t a dual AGP motherboard in existance,AGP isn\'t designed that way.3 PCI slots is too little 5 is the minimum for me.

He wouldn\'t use all that ram, more ram on a mac is better if he\'s using MacOS 9,x or below since it has poor PMT(preemtive multitasking) and no protective memory.It\'l all be fixed in MacOS X when 128 will be enough.

A terabyte hard drive is VERY hard to get and VERY expensive. The only ones I\'ve heard of were made by Maxtor.

And a DVD-R drive costs about 3000$.He would be better of getting a REAL prebuilt Mac with the drive built in and thus getting the drive very cheap.

I have:
500mhz AMD K-6 2 3D processor

196mb of 100mhz RAM

Ok video card

Sound Blaster 16 sound card

Trusty cable modem

Creative speakers

Decent PC100 motherboard w/1 AGP slot, 3-4(don\'t remember) PCI slots, 4 of the other kind of slot(forgot what its called, real old)

10mb\\sec NIC

12x Mitsumi CD-ROM Drive

8x 8x 24x Yahama CD-R Drive

4gb hard drive

Pretty big monitor(don\'t have the energy to measure it)

A bunch of other not very important stuff I can\'t bother to name.

BTW how much is a Terabyte exactly?

As you can see, I desperatly need a new HDD. For what kind of prices could I find a HDD in the 15-20gb range?

Thanks.

I agree nO-One there is definately something wrong with him.  First off he works at the Wiz on comission so he has money to burn.  I\'ve told him many times that his computer is a defiately imposibility but he\'s too stubborn to listen.:(  It\'s so sad...

There is no such thing as PC700.

PC133 is the fastest so far.

God. I just came from holy land today, and this is the biggest and greatest golden statue of my God ever witnessed before my very eyes!

KrillinX, might I say you\'ve reserved your place in heaven, as we worms are still fighting for survival.

If there\'s a god of technology, it must be your Computer.

What kind of mobo do you have?

Solid Snake the fastest you can get is Rdram pc800.The same as in the PS.2.
But PC\'s really don\'t use all the bandwith.

:smokin:I really do love my computer man but it\'s not all that powerful.  In all honesty all I done on my computer is write stories in Word 2000 and use Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 which barely taps into the potential of my unecessarily powersful pc.  Then again I do surf the web a lot more now with Optimum Online.  Me and Napster are very good friends:D  It\'s still an honor to have a place in the holy land.

Dude computers are never to powerfull.
Look at me,I am about to upgrade my Tbird 800 to 1,2Ghz,about to add a stick of 256mb ram (that would make it 512),about to add another 30gb hd.
And after that\'s all done I\'ll be broke but I\'ll be dreaming of even more expensive things.It\'s a never ending circle.
