Hi i got the magazine with GT3 demo on today. Good demo. Anyway i was reading about a reader who expireneced a black boarder down the right side of their screen due to the picture being off centre, i get the exact same thing. It only happens in games.
The reply was that this shouldn\'t happen. I noticed this but never did anything so i thought since the console was expensive and PS2s are now in stock i would ring Sony.
Its a bit anonying because generally games can be off centre which is ok because the picture is originally centred but since the picture is originally not centred it makes the picture really off centred all the time. It means i get some text cut off the screen sometimes.
Sony were great. They offered me a new console and are sending a courier out to collect the old one with the new sealed console.
I just hope this fixes the problem and that my new console doesn\'t bring any problems like lip sync, dieing after a week or ratteling / noisy CD Drive.
I was impressed by the way Sony handled this problem, i.e. offering a new PS2 rather than having to get it fixed. I just hope it all goes well.
The GT3 demo is very nice, esp the replys. I was also impressed that the UK version runs at a great 60fps.
Richard.

RichGUK, I\'ve got a big favor to ask of you. Could you pm me or e-mail me your info (name)? I\'ve had so much trouble with my PS2 and they\'ve never offered to replace mine even though it\'s on its second trip to a service center. I\'d just like you as a reference if that\'s ok.
BTW, how long have you had your PS2?
-
Hi EmperorRob, currently i would prefer not to give you my details until my transaction has gone through and i get my new PS2 on thursday. Then i will certainly be willing to help.
- I hope you understand.
Had my PS2 since christmas.
Somethings to try in the meantime.
For starters I ordered my PS2 from a catelogue which has a very good exchange policy. I didn\'t ring my catelogue but instead rang Sony directly. I spoke to the first person and explained my problem and then from there i was passed to technical support where they offered me the replacement.
So basically if you haven\'t tried it all ready try ringing Sony Customer Care on 08705 998877.
You could make up some sort of problem which is basically not reparable.
Finally i think Sony are reluctant to who gets replacements. For example in America I think they tend to repare the consoles rather than offer replacements due to the stock.
So try that and after thursday ill be more willing to help with my details, I just want to get my PS2 first :) I wouldn\'t want Sony on the phone claiming that due to word of mouth that i wasn\'t eligable to recieve a replacement no more, i know that wouldn\'t really happen but its better safe than sorry.
Richard
Good Luck!
- Hi i\'ve just edited my post. I see your not from England. That changes things a lot, in England they tend to give replacements so i\'ve heard. Also its very probable that they use two different databases and thus won\'t have heard of me. Also that Sony Customer Care number won\'t really work over there either, which really makes most of my post invalid :(

Here\'s my prob: DVD & PS1=no play :(
1. Called 1-800-SONY. No help; idiot.
2. E-mailed playstation.com. Sent my PS2 to MI service center. Comes back 2.5 weeks later and the DVD-drive is installed wrong and will not open.
3. Called twice to 1-800-SONY. Over a period of 2 weeks they sent 2 airbills that never made it to me.
4. E-mailed playstation.com. Airbill makes it to my office 4 days later. PS2\'s off to Penn this time and has been gone since the 19th.
I\'m in a sour mood over it
Now b/c of their incompetence (or shipping problems) I\'m supposed to do without it for 3-4 more weeks. This started January 13 and haven\'t played PS2 since then.
It\'s cool to keep your info, I understand; I just thought after they give me that B.S. about not exchanging machines I would mention your case.

Yeah that isn\'t on at all. I mean you got a faulty PS2 completly and thus should of had a replacement not some repair job.
Things get worse when they mess you around and won\'t ever repair it.
Simply solution for this one. Get onto Sony / Place of purchase and simply ask for a refund in full. Im sure since you A) have a guarentee and B) your problem hasn\'t be resolved that they should refund it in full.
Then if you want a PS2 go for it, although personally after hearing your story i wouldn\'t touch the things.

Well if the sonofab!tch comes back and it\'s still not working, I\'ve definitely got to take a different course of action.
-
Good luck with it, and please wish me good luck with mine :)
-
Good luck to us both, God knows we\'ll need it. I\'ve already promised to post a big thread when I get mine back. You should do the same as a follow-up.
-
Sorry to hear about that Rob I phoned the 1-800 number too. Sony couldn\'t figure out the problem with mine so they sent me a brand new one in about 2 weeks.
-
Poor, poor EmporerRob... :(
Thats gotta suck.

It\'s back people
RichGUK, just got mine back today and everything looks good so far. Played a quick round of DOA2 and watched a few minutes of Ghost in the Shell.
Now to celebrate.

Nice one m8. Im really pleased for you, you deserved a working PS2 after all the hassle you have had.
I get my PS2 tomorrow so hopefully everything will go ok.

I have had 3 PS2\'s and they still all have that black border on the right hand side!!!! It\'s really annoying!!! Sony said it was my TV or the cables I am using but I have tried my PS2 on all my TV\'s in the house and it\'s still the same!
-
That\'s just plain bad luck!!
My problem isn\'t my PS2 it\'s my TV. It\'s one and a half years old and I just discovered the S-Video has problems with DVD playback. Hopefully it won\'t cost me too much.

Waited in all day today and no PS2 turned up... i then rang Sony and they told me that the request hadn\'t been saved in the records. I now have to wait till tuesday for the PS2.
Im beginning to feel that it may not be worth swapping. Ill probably start a poll on it.

1-800-SONY isn\'t worth the sweat off a dead baboon\'s balls. They\'re like a user-ed team. All they can do is quote manual stats and pages to you. I\'m impressed they offered you a new unit, be thankful for that. Keep hounding their ass. Call tomorrow and make sure the request is still active. Chances are you\'ll get a different operator.
AND IF YOU TALK TO A GUY NAMED DAVE, HE IS A DUMBASS. HANG UP AND CALL AGAIN.
