ok I don\'t over heat my PS2 and i\'m 100% perfectly safe with it and everything. I might be one of the safest guys on the forum with the thing.
But my PS2 sits on my carpet out in the open, I hear that was bad cause of static or something? can anyone lend me a view?
-
Just use a wooden plate under it...
-
I\'ve heard stories of people who place it directly on carpet and in the end have their system overheat. When I place my ps2 on the floor I always put a book under it to provide a flat surface...but since the ps2 vents out of the back, you should be ok I guess...:)

ok check it out guys, have you ever heard that if you touch a computers inside when you have static build up, one little shock can fry your whole comp... well its true, it goes with the ps2 as well, when you place it on carpet, it conducts static electricity, wich slowly kills your console, it will burn out faster than other consoles that are not on carpet and wont live as long, to make a long story short..DONT HAVE IT ON CARPET! Buy a little wooden table or a stool or something, and you aint got nothing ot worry about.

It`s not really static you should worry about (unless you regularly have your hands inside your unit) it is the dust and insects you should really worry about.
Carpet is the main dust/lint/fluffy crap producer in a house, and the further your unit is away from it the better. The PS2s fan doesn`t help much either, sucking air through the unit and spreading dust inside isn`t good for your laser lens.
****roaches and the like have been known to blow power supplies if they manage to get inside a machine. So just keep in on a coffee table or in a cabinet but make sure there is a decent amount of ventilation.

dont put your PS2 on carpet..if you want take a shoebox or something and put it under the PS2..
-
Easy solution.
Use the box it came in (that pretty blue one), and place your PS2 on top of it.
-
ok I took Goteki\'s suggestion for now until I find something more sturdy.
Thanks a ton you guys.
-
or you can put it on a table..i dont know how the room is setup but put it on a table, box, or anything that is solid and above the carpet
-
I would put it on a table but i\'m posotive i\'d knock it off someday.

Can\'t you buy the controller extensions and that way you could leave the PS2 on the shelf or whatever.??
Anyway, yes..Static kills. There is latent damage caused by static and catastrophic damage. Latent damage is when a static discharge goes into an IC and weakens a part of the IC. Later, maybe a day, or maybe a year, the IC will breakdown and die.
The catastophic damage is instant and it\'s all over for that component.
I\'m wearing a static smock and heel straps on my shoes at this very moment:) I\'m grounded baybee. I work with IC\'s.

Don\'t complain too much please!
I mean, I live in two houses; my mother\'s and father\'s. After 2 weeks we change the apartment to my mother\'s to father\'s and vise versa.
And the most precious object with me is... of course... Playstation 2. And it goes along me all the time. And I have to move it in the cold from my father to my mother and vise versa!
Well, twice a month, but that\'s 24 times a year ( approx, as I may have to move it more often sometimes! ).
240 times in 10 years. Gawd...

uhhh yes...all you have to do is put your PS2 in a carry case...that wasnt hard was it ? the only thing that gets annoying is carrying your PS2 back and forth from one house to the other..
-
No, I just mean ripping off the cords every time hurts me... it\'s like switching off an android dearer to you than your parents... ( bhoawhawhawhaw :) )
But I don\'t have a good carrier case and I don\'t have enough money to buy one... *sigh*
Aw well, those plastic bags may do the job.
-
Yea your best bet is to put it on a book or a cooling rack

see i t0old you guys i was right, (you dont have to touch the inside byatch) its just the fact it cunducts static that kills the console, and shortens its life, putting it on the box is a good idea for now :)

You should set it on something or buy that little blue stand. By leaving it on the carpet you are in danger of overheating and static electricity. And both of these factors can cause damage to your PS2. There are hundereds of componenets that can be fried from static electricity, and if you have ever had your laptop running on carpet you will understand how easily it can overheat. These machines weren\'t built to be placed on carpet while running. At the very least prop it up on a book or something.

the amount of dirt, dust, just plain crap you get from carpets is horrible. Don\'t have put it on cloth, rug, carpet, anything like that. ITs just not a good idea at all.
And the static thing, that is also very very bad. You want it at least a foot from the floor, I tell you this and its the truth..
peace

alright I got a samll tiny shelf that has no sides or nothing but its like 6 inches from the carpet so thats where it is currently sitting.
