MM, Bjorn and I are making a study on how many people come to the forums with broadband or dialup.
-
I have cable, btw why didn\'t you vote yourself?
-
i did vote. You don\'t have to SAY what u have. Just vote on it. :D
I\'m on broadband. :D
-
I know you don\'t have to replie to make your vote, but when I voted, I was the only one who did at the time, so I thought you haden\'t voted, but never mind, cause you have voted now
-
I have a broadband ( bhoawhawhawhaw :D ) - but I really can\'t be proud of it anymore as most internet-dwellers today do have the same thing ( and many times more powerful; I have Adsl 256k "edition" ).
But this is fast enough for me, and as I mostly just write here and leave, this is quite more than enough.
But I got this broadband about a year ago ( well, it was 10 months or something AGO ), and then I was one of the first in the town of ours to receive it, and I could truly be an annoying being to my friends awhile.
-
i have 56k at the time, but i will get broafd band after the prom, i gota save my money, im going to get cable, its new in my are so i wana wait till it settles more
-
Broadband here.2 mb wireless connection. (love it)
-
I got 10 mbit, full duplex :)
-
56k here. i\'m probably lucky my rural town has phone lines. i\'ll be cruisin\' when i go to college in the fall though
-
i have a 56k connection. it seems dsl nor cable will be in my area soon, so next month i have too fork out $650 bucks too buy a starband satellite just too have better ping numbers for madden :) it does both u/ls and d/ls without the need of a modem for uploading.
downloads @ 400
uploads @ 150
dish and reciever $399
installation about $150
shipping around $40
$70 dollars a month for unlimited service
-
mmm\'hmm. 56K. I can\'t get DSL here. Town next to me can get it though, so I will have to shell out the cash for a sattelite connection.
:(

wonderful......... anyway, I\'m just another one of those lucky people with a T3 connection... :)

WOW!... but whats the point, unless you run a server of some type.
-
I have 56k, and I am 2000 ft away from the ability to have DSL. Verizon has told me not to hold my breathe
I plan on moving soon, but who know if I will have DSL capabilities when I move, since I want to be away from the human race somewhat.
CPLease, or anyone with the knowledge
Do you think Sony broadband will work with Sattelite broadband. I am looking into it myself. The $70 a month charge is steep but sattelite is the future. I\'m just curios if it will work with Sony\'s broadband access, and wouldn\'t routing a signal to space and back have some sort of lag ??????????
Downloading and uploading is one thing but playing a game online in realtime might not work lagfree going through space
Food for thought
-
No offense but 300k cable sucks. :( Sorry.
Ok it doesn\'t suck but you can do better. I\'m on a 3000k cable connection myself.
And nO-One, how exactly will you get this 100mb\\sec connection? Is it cable? DSL? Sattelite? Excuse my if I sound skeptical.
BTW how fast is T3? Why do you keep going on about it?
@ ddaryl: Thats gotta suck. :( Good luck anyway.
-
It\'s some fiber optical cable thingie I have no idea what you call it in English.I couldn\'t belive it myself.
They are putting up networks of these things all over the place here in Iceland (they want everybody to have broadband).Mostly the cables will be shared between neighbour hoods but we are supposed to be on our own cable.
-
Ok I believe that its some fiber optic cable thingy but if I were you I wouldn\'t count on getting 100mb\\sec. At least not all the time. Good luck anyway. :)
All your base, your base, base, base, all your base, are belong to us!
-
Ddaryl: If you are considering a connection for gaming I would avoid Satellite like the plague, anything else would be preferable to it, in latency terms it could very well be worse than regular dialup modems. Im sure it would be a great content viewer but otherwise Id stick with land based lines if I were you.

Nope won\'t be getting near 100mb\'s.Still cool to say "pffft that\'s nothing I\'ve got a 100mb connection" well not yet :(
-
lol
ah i don\'t blame ya i would do the same thing. :p
-
56k here :(.
If i have luck i\'ll get broadband in a year or so, but for now isn\'t possible where i live.
And yep it sucks!
-
Cable:D
-
I just went to the ZDNET bandwith speed test page and here are my results
Your line speed:
8160 Kbps
1000 K bytes/sec
:D Broadband rules. No offense dialup. I had it too

T3 is 45 Mbit
-
I cant wait for dsl or cable to be available where i live. But, im not holding my breath.
-
I\'ve got a fat cable that averages 500k/s and my employer pays every bit of it :D

Oh ok, thanks. :D

...that dsl 256k sucks. If compared to the newest T\'s.
But my point is, it is just fast enough for me and my needs. Of course I would like to own a T3 and some super computers, and then download every warez game possible to my 80 gig hard drive.
Of course that would make me a pirate ( because I\'d have a cd-burner and I would copy the games to all my friends if they pay a little fee ).
But life is about dreaming.
-
I\'m a cable modem, 560k connection.
I\'m with a S@#T ISP. When i get optus in my area.
I\'ll go with them.. Get a 1mb connection. ASDL or Cable then i\'ll be set. :D
-
hey be happy with what you broadbands got - us 56ers would love to have it
i plan on getting a good cable connection when i move to LA
-
I think I will get 1mb connection when it\'s possible here. It is possible in Finland, but not yet here. So I\'ll have to just sit and read jealously of some having better connection than I... But still getting pleasure of knowing that some have worse ;) ( j/k )
But this costs quite much here already. I do have Adsl; but there was options between 128k, 256k and -something- ( I can\'t remember )
-
I can\'t wait till my DSL goes up to 8mbit... as we have no cable modems in my area.
-
Broadband.
And using it very well :D
-
i\'m on cable!! :) YAY and i love it!
-
56K here
-
DSL or T\'s or whatever how match it cost u?
Note (Here 56k at the minime cost 30 $Pm)
-
Broadband via cable.
-
T3 is da bomb... I wonder if they will make a T5... bwahahahahaha.... It seems that the broadband users outnumber the Dial-up users... which actually amazes me... I thought there would be a lot more dial-up.
-
They do make higher bandwidth pipes up from T3 (DS3) but they are backbone circuits usually travelling over Fiber optic..
They run in the OC3 OC12 , OC48, OC128.
But with the OC circuits you are talking MegaBits or Gigabits of information. Like I said, for backbone circuits.. My company has customers that are getting sub-rated OC3 (ds3) circuits. Sub-rated= only a partial pipe, and they are paying anywhere from $15k a month up to $50k a month. But those are colleges and really big companies. So yes you can get higher band-width you just gotta pay for it!! :D

2Mbit in the wall!!!!!

ddaryl:
i was wondering the same thing about if a connection via satellite would be compatible with sony\'s online setup. so i don\'t have an answer at the moment, but i will look for one.
pardon my ignorance, but is cable and/or dsl faster than a satellite connetion (starband)? i hate to spend $700 for a dish etc., but on the other hand cable and/or dsl will not be available for another year or so. that means i\'ll probaly miss out on sony\'s online launch.
even when i do buy the dish setup it may not even be "sony" compatible, but hey i have to lose this 56k.
damned if you do, damned if you don\'t :crap:
TheOneBillyGunn:
dosen\'t a t3 connection run around 3,000 a month?
edit:
ddaryl:
you want too stay away from satellite connections. i just got off the phone with "starband" and they said lag would be huge. he said it could be upto twice a bad as a 56k connection.
the signal travels 23,000 miles into space back down to alanta then to your opponent. so it would definatly not be for realtime gaming let alone sony\'s broadband.
what are we too do?
-
I have dailup and hate every minute of it.
-
I doubt Sony\'s broadband adapter will be compatible with satellites. Satellites can get a wicked d/l speed but for upload you are restricted to 56k which kind of defeats the purpose. So if you were getting the satellited dish just for console gaming access don\'t waste your time. If you were getting it for TV, and the BB was just a fringe benefit, go for it because the Sports packages are effing sweet.
BTW, Satellite is generally as fast as a really good cable modem(Taking into account the number of users on at one time) and cable is generally faster than DSL. But there are always exceptions.
-
Yeah. People are always argueing over what is better, DSL or cable. But when it comes down to it there is no straight winner. There are just too many factors which determine the speed: location, server, amount of users online, ect.
-
I got cable and my download rate is ussually 50- 150kbs :) it can go waaaaaaaaay fatser than that i had once 600kbs!!
-
cable
-
i got DSL today baby!! oh yeah.. its 1.1M download and 256k upload... fast enough for me. I\'ve been waiting awhile to get the crap. I ordered it the first of February and finally got it today... March 9th. but I cant complain.. at least I have it :) hehehe
-
Congrats! Welcome the Club Broadband.
-
I am a broadbander, thank god. It\'s expensive but I can\'t imagine going back to 56k. We have a 56k at work, and it makes me want to cry.
-
I own Shaw Cable, man it go fast..I used to use my phone for online game but I use shaw cable and I can get over 100 frag in 20 minwith railgun on quake2 :)
-
Wow broadband is winning... wooo wooo :)
