Title: Shadow of Destiny
Post by: Joker on March 07, 2001, 12:43:41 AM
To any of you who get this game today be sure to come back here and tell me how good it is.

I know it has no action and is being called more of an interactive movie instead of a game so you have to come back and tell me how interesting it is.

Its by the guys that made Silent Hill so I am EXTREMELY curious about this one.

Title: Shadow of Destiny is an action game without any interactive action.

It\'s more of an interactive mystery movie.

But the story is enough to make you want to finish it from beginning to end. There is no escape if you\'re into this type of entertainment.

It\'s not for everyone, particularly if the gamer seeks intense beat\'em up, slash n\' run, run n\'gun action.

This is a mystery game with multiple endings.

I got it!!

The manual is kinda a bummer. 12 pages of info, brown and white lay-out (no color). It\'s decent though, it describes the items and layout of the screen and scenarios on how to play.

That\'s right. This is a mystery game where character interaction/conversation coupled with item usage will determine your fate.

The box art is very dark and mysterious, but well done. The game saves take 107K and it supports digital, analog, and vibration.

It\'s rated Teen and is on a DVD:)

It\'s an IF game, Interactive Fiction. In other words, it\'s an adventure title like Monkey Island, Grim Fedago, or the Colonels Bequest where you must use Brains instead of Brawn. Of course it\'s not for everyone, just like FPS\'s and Beatups aren\'t for everyone. It\'s a real shame there are some people out there trying to figure out what the best word to describe the genre is. Everyone should know what an adventure title is, and what they\'re like. Expecially since, at it\'s core, even the famous Resident Evil is an Adventure game.

On the plus side, if this game is as good as people say and if Monkey Island 4 comes to the PS2 we may just see a resurgance in the Adventure Genre.

Haaa Damn! I played it last night, but only for about an hour.

Well, between Bouncer and Shadow, Bouncer is graphically waaay better. Shadow graphics are really a mixed bag. Some scenes and items are beautiful and others look low-poly/texture, ...but overall the whole picture as you play is very nice. The effects kinda make up for some bad texturing. I\'ll give it a C+ in this dept.

Gameplay wise, it really is fun. Who would have thunk that an Adventure game where you don\'t kill/fight anyone could be....but it is. I always liked Rpg\'s and SoD is all about my favorite part of Rpg\'s...exploring the towns.

So far it\'s kinda linear in the vein that the game really steers you towards where/what you are supposed to do. I expect/hope it will get a bit more challenging later. Like I said I barely scratched the surface.

All the dialog is voice acted and I think it\'s done very well. It conveys the story well and does suck you in to where you want to just keep going(You do have the option to skip any cut-scenes). I\'ll probably end up playing alllll day on Saturday........Yup, my two doggies are gonna get ignored...again:)

This might be good for a change of pace. Occasionally even I get the craving to play a game that\'s more than just beat-em-up, shoot-em-up, or blow-em-up(though only rarely.:D) Let us know if it requires more brainpower as you go along. If it\'s too easy I can\'t see myself getting this game.
