Title: I have two Yes or No questions for you PS2 gamers...
Post by: Eaglepower on March 07, 2001, 11:42:04 AM
1. Is it normal for the PS2 console to be a little bit warm after being left in Standby mode?
2. Does dust kill the hardware?

1: Yes...as long as it isn\'t too hot you should be ok but don\'t leave it on stand by all the time.

2: YES in a big way. If it gets in there it will fry the crap to hell. Keep it out of dusty areas but also make sure it gets a lot of ventalition and you\'ll be fine.

Cypress, What is the best way to clean the console? and how often? Also, I keep my PS2 in a cabinet under my entertainment center, is this place ok? How do I know I have the proper ventilation?

Use one of those cans of compressed air to clear out the dust.

What about using the hose of a vaccum cleaning to suck the dust from the cosole? Would this be damaging?

well someone recommended that on another thread, and they said it worked good, i decided to try it out, and it did work good, instead of dusting the grill, "it will just let the dust fall inside on the hardware" you can use a vac, and it will suck it out, i would be carfull thoug, compressed air would work, but i dont know about trying it, you might damage something?

yeah that cabinet should be perfect as long as its not dusty and you leave the doors open so the the thing can get some air.

The cleaning thing i\'m not too sure about but I\'ve heard of people using a fine paint brush to clean dust and stuff out of it.

I\'m not too sure about the air can or the vaccum because i\'ve never looked into it really.

My PS2 does get sort of warm while left in Standby mode. I know some people say that when their PS2\'s are in Standby mode, its actually cold. If this is the case I\'m taking mine back as soon as EB gets some more.

its not good to leave it on stand by all the time though.

i say stick with the vacuum but the vacuum doesnt pick up ALL dust..if your using a compressed air can i warn you BECAREFUL...the compressed air of can is COLD..really COLD when blown REAL CLOSE..shake it well..really well and dont put it too close to the system..i sprayed the air into my hand and it burned my skin..well i wouldnt say it burned but it froze my hand [the spot i sprayed it on] it felt like it was burning

well whats wrong with leaving it in stand by mode?

all other appliances i have that are in stand by mode - radios and such - work perfectly fine

if they wanted you to turn the main power off all the time then they would have put in a easily accessed area - not hidden in the back of the PS2

thats what i think
