Title: Gamecube set for an early launch
Post by: Black Samurai on March 07, 2001, 06:18:38 PM
The Gamecube\'s launch has been changed from October 2001 to September 2001. I hope this kills any rumors of a delay. The story can be found here (http://cube.ign.com/news/32152.html).

GameCube Set for Early Launch

Nintendo Japan confirms that its next-generation GameCube console will launch in the US early.

March 7, 2001

Nintendo Japan\'s executive vice president Atsuo Asada told Reuters on Wednesday that the GameCube console will launch in Japan this July, with an earlier than expected debut of September 2001 in the US. A spring 2002 release is planned in Europe.
The next-generation platform was previously set for an October launch in the States and the fact that Asada has not only confirmed that a 2001 debut is still on track, but also bumped up the release by one month is further proof that GameCube will not be delayed.

The console will see a full unveiling at May\'s Electronics Entertainment Expo, and Nintendo plans to market the machine alongside its own super-handheld the Game Boy Advance later this year. The GBA is expected to have 60 titles available by the holiday season. For more on the device, click here (http://pocket.ign.com/).

Cool. I figure I\'ll get a GC a few months after its release. Maybe the next Christmas(Dear Santa Claus...).

That\'ll give me just enough time to recover from buying a GBA.

That will burn a deep hole in your pocket... and very deep hole.

Nintendo could absolutely bomb on the GC, and still be profitable because of the GBA.

Great. Means we can expect an offical price tag and games etc at E3. That is right after my birthday, so I may take the cash and buy one. Not sure yet.

I\'m going to get one the day it comes out! I wonder if I have to camp out for it... I\'ll also blow a good $250 on the GBA

Me too actually. Everyone can scream at Sony for having a shortage of PS2, but it was no worse then a Nintendo launch. The SNES launch was screwed up for retailer sellers and the N64 was nothing but constant delays and only two games.

If it does launch this year, I bet it will have a severe lack of launch titles.
