I\'m planning to build a computer soon (as soon as I can get the money) and I had asked some friends who makes a good motherboard for a AMD Athlon/thunderbird.. and I one person tells me Abit and the other Asus and each tells me the other is full of crap... sooo which do you guys recommend... Asus or Abit?
-
They both make great boards. You wouldn\'t go wrong with either one of them. But perhaps Asus has that edge in quality - or at least their rep says so. Bottomline is that both manufacturers are good.

I myself was wondering the same thing cause those Athlon 1GHz procs are cheap now. I\'m gonna need some speed when I get my little in house studio setup using my computer..and I ain\'t going with no Intel crap:D

Asus does use higher quality parts in their boards and they have all usually gotten the best of the best reviews. Abits, I hear, are easy to OC, but can overheat a lot easier than an Asus.

Definetly ASUS. They make a top quality board. But I have also used other like AOPEN, and FIC. They are all generaly good. Just stay away from some of the weird name ones, or ones that no one has ever heard of before.
Check out pricewatch.com That is a great site for finding the lowest price computer stuff around :D

I have the Abit KT7-RAID and I love I higly recomend it.
How ever there is a bigger chance that you\'ll get a defective motherboard from Abit their quality control isn\'t as good as Asus\'s.
Epox has also been getting good remarks. And MSI\'s AMD boards are supposed to be very good.
heh heh just had to post this :D

I\'m using an Asus K7V-T motherboard with 700mhz Classic Athlon and having no troubles at all.
The only thing to consider is when buying memory for an Athlon mobo.
Make sure that the memory is of good quality or the mobo wont fire up properly

Thats very much guys... I guess I\'ll have to go out and buy me an Asus as soon as I possibly can... which will be when I actually have some money around. My pockets are like bottomless pits... whenever I get a little money its gone..
