Old is new, right? That seems to be the latest idea with PS2 titles. Tekken Tag, Ridge Racer, Klona, Wipeout and the list continues to go on. Well, how about the another one of the original PS titles being released for PS2?
I\'m talking about Toshiden! Anyone remember the Sofia "wet dreams" ads by Sony? I remember seeing that and being curious. Then reviews started to come in about the game. It was the most beautiful game ever most said and the gameplay wasn\'t too shabby itself (though, it was lacking somewhat). From there the series grew and in my opinion, kept getting better. But, alas the public didn\'t think so. Sales declined by the time Toshiden 3 was out and within no time it could be found in the good ole\' faithful bargin bins.
But come on, this is the PS2. The PS2 could power an excellent version of Toshiden and wow everyone again. Tighten the gameplay alittle more (which was great in Toshiden 3) and it would be an excellent game.
In short, I want a sequel damnit. I want to see a beautiful sequel to the original PS fighter. The one that sold alot of units and showed what the PS could do when compared to the first Virtua Fighter released for the Saturn.
Anyone else agree?
(P.S, I would also like a WarHawk sequel, Santa!)

I didn\'t get a chance to play Toshinden until after I\'d played Tekken 2, so I never thought too highly of the series. At the time it came out, I was still dead set on buying a Saturn and wasn\'t paying much attention to Sony\'s "3DO in new clothing". I changed my mind real quick about the little grey wonder after a night of Resident Evil and Destruction Derby 2 though. :)
Nothing about the Toshinden series excites me, although it may be cool to see a sequel in action just for tradition\'s sake.
-
I loved the first 2 Toshindens. I would like a sequal too...
-
yea this was actuallt the first PS game i played and i though it was pretty cool - i thought it was weird how it just disappeared and no more sequels came out
well i think now is as goos as time to make one and i think there are people that would agree...
-
I still remember buying the third one for my friend. I loved this series back then! and in part 3, they added super combos! I played it a little while ago and, whoops! It is looking andplaying extra crappy nowadays :) ahh, how times change!

Toshiden was fun, but rather shallow in the gameplay department.
P.S. Warhawk 3 was announced...

Warhawk 2? Really?
*gets on knees and looks at sky*
Thank you, God .

For real, I would go find you the link but it was a few weeks ago and that might take a while.
Hey, while you\'re down there on your knees you wanna give me a...;)

Toshinden was really cool for it\'s time. The graphics were beautiful. The gameplay was also great (for it\'s time). Once Tekken came out though, Toshinden was lacking in some areas.
I think it would be cool if they brought it back though. There are not very many 3D fighters that let you shoot fireballs and stuff (SFEX3 is the only one I can think of), so it could actually have a chance against T4, VF4, SC2, and DOA3 (assuming there is going to be a DOA3).
-
WHile DOA3 isn\'t officially confirmed, Tecmo did hint at it when interviewed about the XBOX some time ago...
-
Toshinden made me buy my PSX, it sold me the first second I played it. I still remember getting the code to unlock Sho and spending all night trying to kick his ass on the hardest level with Eiji (on the cool as hell elevated platform over the water). Just imagine Soul Calibur with manual rolls and DOA2 backgrounds and you pretty much have the next Toshinden. Too bad Takara flopped last I heard. Hmm... now that I think back to it, I loved the music for Eiji\'s elevated platform over the water stage :)
Sophitia is the original Ivy and that\'s all I have to say about that. Who doesn\'t love a good dominatrix every now and then?

Me too man. I never wanted a PS, but then I saw Toshiden and was amazed. I went out and bought one, but WAL-MART didn\'t have any copies of Toshiden, so I settled for Mortal Kombat 3. Course, I found myself within the next week searching for a copy. Once I got it, I was amazed. Gia was this amazing monster with the 3D background that was stunning. Then Toshiden 2 came out and Verminlon was the coolest thing I had ever seen.
Or what about that Super-Deformed japanese release only? That was pretty cool from what I heard / seen.
Sure, the original was pretty shallow, but it got better in time.
-
Toshinden sold me on playstation the moment i saw it, and sure yoiu can say the gameplay was a bit shallow, but just think what we have played since. 5 years ago i was dumbfounded at how incredible this game was. And in my opinion toshinden id THE FIRST TRUE 3D FIGHTER
I think if done by the right people a new toshinden could be a blockbluster hit, especially since all of us gamers who got a psone at launch would by it just for nostalgic reasons :)
-
Toshinden and wipeout where my mirst PSX games.
Toshinden gave great chances to Takara for a great series but they killed it with crap sequels. In its time it was great.
Enormous stages, cool ring outs, iteresting animated backrounds, amazing graphics etc I am still liking the first Toshinden.
I wish Takara creates a toshinden sequel on the PS2 as good as it should have been on PSX1.
-
jeepnrocks, the fact is not really debatable, VF was the first true 3D fighter, like it or not :)
-
Toshinden had the ability to roll to the side and attack its opponent from a different angle but once executed, the game was back to 2D with the camera switching to the over the shoulder view once in a while. Yep. Check it out. 2D fighting, roll, back to 2D.
VF wasn\'t as free rolling as BAT, but it had "some" 3D elements to it but it was 90% 2D.
BAT was more like....2.5 Dimensional.
Tobal No2 was the first true 3D fighting game.
-
Speaking of PSX classics, anyone hear anything on a new Jumping Flash?

Well said.Toshinden was as revolutionary if not more than VF IMO in its time.It was the first to introduce 3D moving. The stages were very inspiring too.

eh, maybe youre right.
A new jumping Flash would kick ash!! That game rocked!! I never even owned the real game (just the demo that was included with first PSx\'s, and I loved it!!
Also, Tecmo has expressed interest in the Naomi2 for it\'s next DOA, since both the last games were developed on Sega boards, I think this would be wise,a s they would already know the board, just a far more superior version of it.

There was a Toshinden sequel. It was called Toshinden: Subaru (???). I think it was Japan only.
Toshinden was a good-looking game but was boring and dull. At least it didn\'t pull a Namco with Toshinden 3 and actually thought of a different sub-boss for each character. Gotta give it to Takara for great character designs.

Werd. Wasn\'t it already confirmed last month? I could have swore it was. What I would give for a full game release list (Japan/US) only naming the games that are coming out and their dev\\publishers.

toshiden was the first game i played for the playstation, was like, wow..., yeah graphics were the bomb back then hehe

Their were 4 PSX Toshindens, plus a Saturn \'Remix\'.
-
actually, for all you non-sega freaks out there, there were two Saturn Toshindens, To Shin Den Remix, and URA To Shin Den!
both the same ole I trhink URA had a new character or something, it iwas Saturn specific.

Actually, the PS had 5 Toshindens.
The fifth is the ever-lame-desperate-tactic-to-keep-gamers-interested-in-our-game SD Toshinden. It was a Super Deformed Toshinden, big heads, out-of-proportion characters, etc.

Please for the love of god never make another Battle Arena Toshiden game...The first one sucked... then the second one, well..... sucked and last but not least the third one... you guessed it "sucked"
damn i never knew there was a 4 and 5 but i will be sure not to play them... i have learned my lesson.
