Title: The Bouncer mini-review
Post by: GmanJoe on March 07, 2001, 08:51:02 PM
Pretty fun so far but I can understand why this game didn\'t get high marks : too many cut scenes, too short a fight per scene, opponents are easy to beat up.

But....like Dynasty Warriors 2, I can\'t stop playing.

Story is interesting so far. Not bad. Not bad.

Gameplay - the controls are fairly easy. Navigating your character is intuitive. Attacks are simplified yet the buttons are pressure sensitive so the harder you press a button, you\'ll have a different type of attack. (B-)

Graphics, well, if not for Shenmue, this is THEE best looking game ever made. (A+)

Sound, not bad. The voice overs are average. Music is forgetable. (C-)

Verdict - RENT. You\'ll finish it in less than a night of gaming.

yea i played it and i totally agree with you

the graohics are amazing though aren\'t they

but the gameplay imo sucked and kept getting me mad because i like to have a button for punching and a button for kicking - i don\'t want to think of how hard i am pressing a button and in a game like this you get caught up in it and then you can\'t help but hit the button hard - thats what i do
Title: I finished it playing Sion last night.

It\'s definitely a rental.

My girlfriend thinks I\'m on crack coz she\'s absolutely loving this game. Then again, she never even heard about this game before so she wasn\'t hyped about it.

As far as fighting games go, its gameplay is inferior to its predecessor, Tobal No.2. In fact, I\'d say if this game had no story mode, it would really suck. It\'s just my opinion. Yours may differ.

HOWEVER this game engine has an enormous potential for a better sequel. It\'s not a BAD game, it just misses out on the fundementals of traditional fighting games. If they had taken DOA\'s attack buttons and put it into this game, it would be the best fighting game ever.

A button to disengage from one opponent to another would have helped coz when I wanted to punch another opponent, the AI had already chosen another opponent for me to attack(which caused me to face the wrong way from the most lethal of the enemy\'s character). And highlighting the opponent you\'re attacking would have helped.

The pressure sensitive buttons are the ones that determine the varying attacks which is not a good a idea, in restrospect. Why? Coz when you\'re in the heat of battle, conciously telling yourself how hard to press the buttons takes the fun away.

Now....I know they\'re making a sequel. I can bet it\'s gonna be better than this one. Like I said, this game engine has potential.
