IMO, GBA is becoming quite the little wonder...

Price and release details:

The US Price and Launch Titles for GBA

Nintendo finally reveals what the system will cost you when the Game Boy Advance ships in June.

March 7, 2001

It\'s been an agonizing wait, but Nintendo has finally revealed the US launch plans for the Game Boy Advance.
As previously reported, the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo\'s successor to the hugely successful Game Boy Color system -- will be released on June 11, 2001 in the US in three colors: White, Indigo, and Glacier. The system will be priced at $99.99, and there will be a huge number of titles upon the launch of the system – 15, to be exact:

Super Mario Advance (Nintendo)
F-Zero: Maximum Velocity (Nintendo)
Army Men Advance (3DO)
High Heat Baseball 2002 (3DO)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater (Activision)
Dodge Ball Advance (Atlus)
Fire Pro Wrestling (BAM)
Top Gear GT Championship (Kemco)
Tweety and the Magic Jewel (Kemco)
Fortress (Majesco)
Iridion 3D (Majesco)
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (Majesco)
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2 (Midway)
ChuChu Rocket! (Sega)
Rayman (Ubi Soft)
Game prices will range from $29.99 to $39.99, slightly higher than the average price for the Game Boy Color library Nintendo is planning on having as many as 60 titles available for purchase by the end of this year. Shockingly missing from this line-up are the other two Nintendo-published games that are launch titles in Japan: Kuru Kuru Kururin and Napoleon -- we\'re hoping that they\'ll have a release date somewhere soon to the launch of the Game Boy Advance system in Japan.
"There has never been a portable game system like Game Boy Advance, and never has a game system launched into such a booming market," says Peter Main, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America Inc. "Our existing portable system, Game Boy Color, remains the fastest-selling video game platform in America, achieving all-time sales records even 11 years after introduction. Game Boy Advance will set brand new records."

Game Boy Advance decisively breaks the existing boundaries for handheld video game play, boosting both screen size and battery life by 50%, and picture resolution by 66%. According to Nintendo, Game Boy Advance delivers a sharper picture than current 32-bit and 64-bit consoles playing on a 27" television. – a really, really bold statement.

The Game Boy Advance launches in Japan in just two weeks.

Yikes, a little expensive in my opinion, but well worth it.

BIG NEWS BELOW: METROID IS BACK!!!!

Classic SNES Games to Game Boy Advance

Nintendo\'s got big plans to dip into its past library to bring up some Game Boy Advance gold.

March 7, 2001

Great news for fans of Nintendo\'s 16-bit system -- in a public announcement in Japan today, Satoru Iwata -- Corporate Planning Div. Director/General Manager of Nintendo Co., Ltd. – revealed that the company is currently planning on releasing updated versions of classic SNES and N64 titles for the Game Boy Advance.
In the speech, Iwata fingered five specific games:

Metroid
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Yoshi\'s Island
Yoshi\'s Story
Yoshi\'s Story was one of the first games unofficially revealed on the Game Boy Advance as a developer demo to show companies what the system can do – it\'s always been hinted at by Nintendo as coming to the system in full form, but never officially announced until today. Rumors of a Metroid title have been floating around for more than a month – and it\'s only today that Nintendo Co. LTD has officially made the announcement as a title in development.
And just to remind you what these games are, check out their SNES equivalents below:

Super Mario World Yoshi\'s Island Super Mario Bros. 3 Super Metroid

Game images are from SNES titles. Screen grabs from http://www.vgmuseum.com.
These are five huge properties that will no doubt be welcomed with opened arms by owners of the Game Boy Advance – but as of right now, there are no specific details on any of these announced games. When we know, you\'ll know.

Metroid will be a FPS on GameCube, but not for GBA.

What are your opinions on all this great GBA news? Good? Bad? Reply damn you!

I\'m very excited for Nintendo...I like sidescrollers alot.  And Nintendo has some of the best.

GBA will be wonderful and I\'ll probably get one at launch with Rayman and Mario Advanced.

I\'ll then be looking forward to:

Metroid
Mario Kart
Yoshi\'s Island
Castlevania
Sonic Advanced
ChuChu Rocket

Anyone know who\'s taking preorders?

So, basically, Nintendo is putting the good games on the GBA . Further proof they should just go handheld. Compare the list of "must get" titles for the GBA to the GC.
;)

I\'m going to import one, though. Not sure I can wait for my CastleVania--which on that note, why is that  NOT a US launch title?

I don\'t know if your being serious or not but Nintendo themselves stated that 70% of their internal development teams(1sy party developers) were focusing on GameCube.

Man I really want to play SMB3 right now!!!! Can\'t wait for GBA!

All i need is a port of FF6, chrono trigger, sieken densetsu, and TMNT turtles in time and we\'re all set :D

PS Turtles in Time is abbreviated TiT

PSS TiT is the greatest brawler ever made.

Sorta serious. Sorta joking.
Serious in the sense--all the classic stuff is GBA (2D,etc).

Joking in the sense--I am sure NINTENDO will have excellent focus (while questionable--ala Metriod) on the GC.

So a joke in some senses..

But yeah, SMB3 again! Yum!

Dang, none of the games I really wanted are coming out at launch. SMB2 and Fortres are probably the only games I\'ll pick up at launch.

Yeah, whatever.

Nintendo puts good games on all of their systems.  The sales charts prove this ;)

It\'s pretty unfair to compare the GBA game list to the GC game list, when virtually every developer for the GC is under NDA.

Depends. What do you consider a good game? Alot of Pokemon? Pokemon stadium? So on and so on....

And if you notice I said they would have excellent--but questionable focus on the GC. I also basically said, that I considered the 2D counter-parts alot better then any of Nintendo\'s 3D efforts.

...in your hands! Now you can really travel back in time...

You know, Jumpman, the GBA is so nostalgic, it\'s a MUST buy! Think about all the great games it will bring before us, the old Snessies...

Well, you can clearly see them from the list, but these are my most anticipated of them:

1. Mario Kart Advanced
2. F-Zero
3. Metroid
4. Super Mario World!!! ( my favourite snes-game! )
5. Rayman

I\'m seriously going to forget Gamecube and X-box because of this God of handhelds... ;)

What do I consider a good game?

I consider a good game any game that I enjoy.

What do you consider a good console or add-on?  A Sega CD, 32X, Saturn? So on and so on....

I know you said that they would have excellent focus on the GC, but it seems like you contradicted yourself when you said that Nintendo would bring the good games to GBA.

You didn\'t say "some" or something along the lines of that, but the.  It might just be me, but when you said "the" it looked as if you meant all.  Of course you could have meant "the" as in the games that we were talking about.

Also, I don\'t recall saying anything about the 2-d or 3-d counterparts of Nintendo\'s games.

If I did, then I apologize.

Before anyone can respond, we must first establish the definition of the word "the."  :D

Hell yah, there were so many good Turtles games way back when and now they are neglected because they have to do with an old dead fad.  TiT was awesome, but so was Turtles 2 the arcade game and the original Turtles from Konami\'s "Ultra" line.  I still remember defusing all the bombs under water by the dam in that game.  Heh, the Turtles 2D fighter was pretty damn decent too.  Now I kinda wanna pull my SNES out and whoop some ass!

i will get it just for SMB3..(better not change it in any way)....i did not spend hours on this game..more like years:eek:....seriously when you think about it...this game is one of the 3 greatest games of all time on any platform(it\'s true it\'s true).....i still remember the first time i played the game like it was yesterday(more like 10 years ago)....the graphics were mind blowing(heh back then)....this game is perfect..what is wrong with it?...nothing.

microsoft underestimates nintendo because they only look at GCN....man will they get a hell of a reality call when the GBA sells millions and millions and millions of GCN\'s....hehehe can\'t wait:D

GCN+GBA=NO WAY in hell xbox can sell this xmas:D

It has F-Zero = Hawke must have one.

It will have Castlevania = Hawke would go as far as kill someone to get one (though, probably he\'ll use money again).

Finally a handheld that will truly ROCK! Freakin\' A! :D

In my personal opinion, the GBA is getting the excellent games. 2D games are my favorite, so that would be why I think that. F-ZERO, Mario 3, Yoshi\'s Island and a brand spankin\' new Castlevania?!? I\'m sorry those games have me way more excited then a FPS version of Metriod (gag!) or another 3D Mario, even though Mario 64 kicked ass, I can\'t help but wish there would of been a true 2D Mario platform game for the console (and no the Yoshi game doesn\'t count).

Who wants old wussy games? See the names of the people who replied.

Those "old wussy games" have more gameplay and replay value then any PS title, no offense. Super Mario World and Mario 3 sucked out countless hours of my life...

I\'ve decided to bring my thread back from the dead because GBA has a lot of great stuff going on for it right now and people will post multiple topics about it for various reasons. But why not just discuss them here? In the "official GBA thread"! Please refrain from knocking the cornyness in that line...

Here\'s some pretty interesting news:

-GBA has sold out already which means it has a user-base of 1.1 MILLION people. I expect the Japanese top ten to be owned by GBA now...

-The new Megaman game seems to have some promise despite being completely different than any other Mega Man game.  http://pocket.ign.com/news/32668.html

-A totally new and original Metroid game is underway. http://pocket.ign.com/news/32668.html

-Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is getting some very positive feelings from IGN. It would appear that this games plays almost exactly like the console versions which is a VERY GOOD thing. That means its another must have title for GBA(how many is that?). http://pocket.ign.com/news/32741.html

Here\'s a pic.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fpocketmedia.ign.com%2Fmedia%2Fpreviews%2Fimage%2Ftonyhawk2_GBA%2Ftonyhawk_shot1.jpg&hash=b26560e3bd7917142d3efdfa09ed75992421fef6)

Man with all the great things happening with GBA how can anyone possibly NOT want one? I\'m still looking forward to GameCube more than GBA but it will still be a revolutionary handheld device. So what are some of your opinions on all this magnificant details?

BTW-is everything ok with this being the primary GBA thread?

Another thing you might want to know about THPS 2 is that the character model is made up of 300 polygons (mario in mario 64 was 700), but has no textures. But, since hes so small on the screen, there hardly any if any.

Also, I can\'t wait for the brand new Metroid--Super Metroid was AWESOME. I think the GBA will be a great system for it too... widescreen for looking forward and backward more in the tunnels... l and r buttons for... etc...

Also, Rare is said to be working on a secret GBA game that even blows THPS 2 and Rayman away! (Their GBA programmers use Assembly, not C, so its a lot faster and you can push the hardware a lot more). They say that one of the people programming the game made the original technology for the awesome DKC games on the SNES. mmmmmmm...
