Title: Dark DVD Playback on PS2

Whenever I play DVD movies, some scenes that are dark seem extremely dark and sometimes with a strong red shadding.  Any suggestions?

I could be the actaul dvd quality of the movie or your tv settings.

DvD\'s are not always perfect. Somestimes they can be too dark, or have colour fragmentations.

I get red shadings on my tv when the colour and contrast is set to high, so try and minimize them.

If still failing try it on another dvd player and see how you go :)

my DVD playback is perfect.
try putting the ps2 on auto diagnostic. thats suppose to set the best settings for your TV something.

my dvd playback is perfect...at first it sucked then i asked the helpful guys at this forum and they told me that my prob was cuz i was trying to run it through my old OLD vcr wich ya cant de because of that macrovision thing...then i ran it directly throught the TV...plays like a dream!

Sounds like you may have it running through your vcr and you are getting the macrovision protection. Or maybe you are using an old tv. My DVD playback is flawless, so I don\'t think it is the PS2.

I am not going through a VCR.  Using S-Video straight into my TV (less than 2 years old).  The funny coloring occurs mostly on the flush tones during dim scenes, sometimes even on THX DVDs. Others have reported this problem: goto DVDshrine.com  forum on PS2 to read more.

yes x-men did it at the beginnig when there all in the german camp & also some seens in the patriot & in gladiatore its not macrovision, thats fading light to dark.

 On another note I have never seen macrovision on my JP ps2 when I record onto video tape. I can\'t recored though as my video is pal & can\'t record an NTSC singnal :(.

Well, it turns out that its my relatively new (RCA, 32", 1+ years old) , but obviously sub-par TV.  I tried out the DVDs with my PS2 hooked up to my Sony (21", ten years old!) and the colors were flawless and bang-on!  I guess the digital comb filter or something on my RCA is not that good.  Iv\'e heard of problems with these RCAs (after I bought wouldn\'t you know it!) and I have even had the tuner in for repair once already.  Anyway, PS2 DVD performance rocks!  My advice is to make sure any new TV you buy is of high quality (not RCA!!).  Personally, I\'m taking my PS2 with me when I go out to get a new TV (I\'m thinking Sony XBR!).  Good gaming and DVDing to all!!
