I came across this in another forum.....

Does anyone know how to access the special PC DVD-ROM Features on the PS2? I know that it can, because it has the logo on the instructional booklet, (DVD-ROM)and i was told so by the man who sold me the unit. "
Can anyone tell me if there is any truth in this statement?

I havent heard anything about this, but if it is true that is cool!
-
Well if they find a way to port Linux over to the PSx2 which they prolly will, then you will have access to it :D
That would be cool..
-
I just thought of something.
If they do port over linux to the Playstation2 and you get the 40 gig harddrive, would it be possible to INSTALL computer games that support linux, and use a mouse and keyboard to play them?
That would be awesome.
-
Nope probly not.All the programs are designed to run on x86 hardware. The PS.2 is to different.
-
yeah, those programs won´t work on the PS2
-
Yeah, but couldn\'t you emulate the lower end PC games on the PS2 in the same sort of way you can emulate the Sega Genesis on the computer? I mean, games that are older than five years old which don\'t use a whole lot of system resources.
BTW: Wasn\'t there a guy working on an N64 emulator for the PS2 not too long ago?

Can someone help me please,im thinking of buying a ps2 and was wondering if the dvd player is any good
-
I don\'t know if I speak for most people but I can honestly say that I\'ve had my PS2 for 3-4 months now.......,I\'ve probably played over 40 DVD movies in the last month and I HONESTLY can say that I haven\'t expierienced one problem with it.....OK so maybe it\'s a bit of a shlep using the control but there are about 15 to 20 infrared remotes that were made for it so if you ask me you should take your life savings and buy one....

All the emulators on the PC emulate very basic games such as the early Sega or Nintendo game, and it was al done in software.
PC\'s and the PS.2 are to different.
The PS.2 doesn\'t have enough memory to play PC games, and PC\'s don\'t have enough memory bandwith to play PS.2 games.

The salesman lied to you. The only way to acces the DVD-Rom features is on a PC/Mac. Unless someone comes out with a DVD player that can access it. WHich I doubt because it involves opening different file formats. Maybe the Indrema or NUON-capable DVD players.

What is your point? Regardless of who posted it, the salesman lied about the PS2 capabilities.
