Title: Nintendo Confirms Spring 2002 GameCube Launch.
Post by: BizioEE on March 12, 2001, 10:15:14 AM
NCL\'s executive vice president says that the GameCube will launch in October in the US, followed by a spring 2002 European launch.

Atsuo Asada, executive vice president of Nintendo Company Limited, has gone on record regarding the launch dates for the upcoming GameCube console. Asada told the Reuters news service that the GameCube is currently on schedule for a July launch in Japan and as expected will be released in North America in October. The European release is currently planned for spring 2002, he said.

Nintendo plans to unveil several of its planned GameCube games at the upcoming E3 show in Los Angeles!    I can\'t wait and...maybe the E3 will force me to buy the first Japanese NGC :D

Well, it\'s going to be a long wait... Maybe it COULD be possible for me to have enough money when the time comes \'tho. Maybe I should start saving...

The dilemma here is, that either I start saving and forget everything that must be bought for PS2 ( all the wonderful games ), and then barely buy GC, or then frequently buy the PS2-games I want and not buy GC.

What will my decision be? hmmm...

After NOT SO LONG deciding, I decided to watch how much money I will get after my confirmation this summer :)

But another year... Why oh why?

Sorry for asking these off-thread questions, but when is the launch of x-box ( as I am so stupid I\'m unaware ) and GBA?

Nintendo are nutz if they release it next year.

The holiday season is very important, and then we will see the ps2 and xbox eat up the market.

Damn nintendo, they havent learned from the N64 delays.

You know he is talking about Europe right?

It is ard enough trying to get the US Launch to run Smoothly only 4 months after the Japanese launch and you want them to try to squeeze in another launch before Christmas? That is absurd. It wouldn\'t be such a problem if Europe didn\'t have such drastically different electrical infrastructure. If I remember correctly they have to change something in the hardware to get it to run in he UK(Someone correct me if Im wrong).

Um, where on earth did you get this information?? A link would be helpful. Oh, and your title is pretty misleading. People will automatically assume that spring 2002 is the worldwide launch for the GC, when it actually launches october 2001 in the U.S.

My brother just got a Dreamcast (it was $99.  He couldn\'t pass up that deal. :D)  He got it primarily for the fighting games on it, because the Dreamcast is a 2D fighting game power house.

OMG I doubt any amount of money that gamecube will launch in october.  With gba being released nintendo wants those sales eating up the holiday bank. And with xbox being released I doubt if nintendo would go one on one with ms. Nintendo is not one for confrontation. Seeing how nintendo never launches on time I see gamecube launching  december or not coming out at all this year. In any case I don\'t see a gamecube launch this year.

If anything will be delayed its the Xbox. The gamecube\'s processor and GPU have already gone into production whereas the Xbox GPU is not even finished yet. Nintendo is trying to get a head start by producing the components early so they don\'t run into the same problems that Sony did. So I say the Xbox is more likely to be delayed than the Gamecube. Just my opinion, but its based on fact :D

Very true Gohan.  Nintendo has already delayed GC 3 times, which is what they do for basically all of their consoles.  So, unless Nintendo just decides to change it up this time GC should be in the U.S. in October.

The only possible reason GC would be delayed is because of software.  It\'s possible that the GC isn\'t as easy to develop for as Nintendo says, but I highly doubt it will be as hard to develop for as PS2.  If there is a delay, I would expect it to be because Nintendo would want more time to polish their games.  After all, we are talking about Nintendo :)

I\'m pretty sure the Gamecube will make its October 2001 release for the US. In fact, the X-Box is going to have a really tough time bringing out the system for the end of this year. Success for both Nintendo and Microsoft hangs in the balance of which company releases their system for the Christmas shopping season. One question, is this the first time two major consoles will be released around the same time?

Another problem Microsoft will face is that the X-Box will probably not be released until many months later in Japan, and the Gamecube will have been out since July 2001. This is a very big problem since Japan should be one of Microsoft\'s target areas. If the X-Box is delayed to a Spring 2002 launch in the US, things may go down-hill, because not only will the system launch in late 2002 for Japan (and be outdated by then), but the US target date will have also been missed. This is why Nintendo launches the system in the summer for Japan so that the North American version can be ready by Christmas.

I need to ge tone online because I will be going back to Atlanta this August and I don\'t want to waste my money on a pre-order here in Boston that I can\'t utilize.

I guess I have to wait until E3 and order it online. THat sucks because I don\'t know my exact address yet. Hopefully I\'ll figure something out.
