these pics have some greatness in them, but there\'s something about them that makes them look not good.
I think it\'s the (so called) pc effect, (it\'s a port after all), I dunno why, but for some reason, when I look at a pc game, they always have something about them that makes them not so good, it looks good, but at the same time doesn\'t, anyone understand me?

yeah i know whatyou mean, but they graphics have really been enhanced fromt he pc version. in the models at least, what i am trying to say is, that remember those low-res pics everyone was posting, and said the game looked like crap, well this is to prove them wrong and show them what we will eb seeing , im sure it will look even a bit better once its on our TV\'s

Got your point, yeah those pics certainly look a way lot better than the previous ones, I\'m curious as to what this game will become of, do you know if it\'s going to be compatible with the ps2 internet function, i.o.w. will we be able to play this game over the net?

we wont know till we get further info ont he game.

Dunno... Maybe it has something to do with the colors...  That always seems a little off in pc games, compared to consoles.

Ahh finally the game looks like it should.
Didn\'t I tell you it would get better :)
And I\'m not seeing any jaggies, this game even when played with 4x FSAA has jaggies because it\'s extremely difficult to eliminate them in a game with such huge enviroments. This does look great :)

Well if they are PS2 screens which I don\'t know for sure since its DR UK who posted these and DR UK are the same people that brought you Naughty Dogs pics

Then I say they look fantastic for a PC port especially

They look better then alot of the XBox screens we received today as well

That\'s my same concern. Though I have the PC version and the HUD @ the bottom (for the weapons) is different. Also, the \'Giant\' looks different from the PC version.. but @ the same time the developers are making a GeForce 3 enhanced version of the game. I hope that really is the PS2 version.

LMAO!, well anyways, i think they are ps2 screens, remember when they were comparing the pc models witht he ps2 enhanced models, they look exactly like the models for the ps2 verion, thats why i think it is, and in the old crappy screens, the hub look identical, i just hope im right.

Hmm and the PS2 can handle this game without a hitch? The PC is even having a hard time playing Giants on a P3 733 with a GeForce 2. If Unreal Tournament suffered from the port over from PC, I doubt Giants is gonna look THAT good, well maybe, except at 9fps. Having FSAA in that game is a crazy idea concidering GeForce 2\'s are getting strained.

Oh well, nice screens. And I think Cylde is mistaken for the color banding as there is none:) 2nd picture? Maybe one line?

Because the enviroments are huge and the textures are not stored on any memory, they are streamed. So basically they are always redrawing the enviroment, and it\'s pretty complex. But smugglers run did it,but the enviroments weren\'t as complex like the enviroments in Giants.
But there are talented brits behind this game (well the PC version anyway, not sure about the PS.2 version) they\'ll figure this out.

The difference is in the way you code

The PS2 can handle this and then some.

Some develoers are struggling others are comign along quite nicely

I never said it was impossible to bring Giants to the PS2, but those screens look better than the PC, GeForce 2\'s are having trouble rendering that at an acceptable rate. Unless those developers really tinkered and perfected its graphics engine.

I think some of you forget that the PS2\'s emotion engine is much better than a p3-750. The PC\'s only way of surviving is due to the new vid cards that come out. While the PS2\'s GPU might have to be tinkered with, the cpu should have no problem with Giants.

well jm

to be honest the PSw is capable of anything the latest PC hardware does it just needs to be coded in a whole diffreent matter

BUT

I have reason to suspect these latest screens to be upgraded PC versions. DR UK has a bad habit of yanking peoples chains

Here is the upgraded PS2 version of Kabuto

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fps2media.ign.com%2Fmedia%2Fpreviews%2Fimage%2Fgi%2Fgiants_3.jpg&hash=ee9621ccda4894c80aa1533d3fafa2684026fb7e)

and here\'s the comparison screen fron DR UK\'s website

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailyradar.co.uk%2Fupload_images%2Ffeatures%2Fgiants%2F04giants.jpg&hash=8193681390c1aa42fa3ba305ef32b8a65bd71517)

What do all of you think, is it PS2 Kabuto or is it upgraded PC version Kabuto

hmmmmmm wow, that makes a complete difference, i think you just bursted my bubble :(,  well.. it looks a bit upgraded, and the hub is different, maybe its still in the process? but i think you have just proved they arent ps2 shots ddaryl, but what if they wont make the model look like that?

The main difference between the 2 pictures is that the first has less lighting than the 2nd one. And maybe a few extra details.

That game can play as pretty as it wants it to be. Just don\'t be crying when you play at 10fps. One thing that stands out, the PS2 version maybe uses 4 lights, verses the PC\'s 16 lights. Difference? Check the pictures, lights play a huge difference on how textures are presented and what colors it displayed. Lights add deapth to character. Sure, more poly\'s means more detailed character, which I believe PS2 can handle quite well. But realtime lighting or even adding lights will definally strain the emotion engine. I don\'t care how good of a programmer you are, lights really take a toll on performance. Its something non-avoidable.

But I admitt, those PS2 screens look mighty nice. Until I see some action movies of the game 75%-85% done, I will make final judgement.

jm - Solution: Prelight the map, that is send the map with all the information of where the light hits, where the shadows are cast for the terrain all in the one package, that way you take all the strain away from working on properly lighting the terrain and can concentrate on just lighting the models within in. Have a look at the screenshots for Dropship (and perhaps StarWars:Starfighter?) and youll notice that the mountains cast shadows in some shots.

edit: by the way you might want to make sure you have transform and lighting (T&L) selected in the graphics options menu, Id be suprised if your PC has difficulty running it if my p2-400 with a Geforce (@ 800x600x32) can run it quite reasonably.

um guys the pics were i think off a pc geforce  no way a ps2!... sorry and do you remember SVGA compared to consoles, consoles in a strange way looked softer on the edges so more real!? i dont know any way look at centrals link to the pics and it says they are off the pc!
.....and do you not see how far in  to the distance u can see!!!! thats why the ps2 cant handel it .... it cant even do it on the trial mountain level on gt3!!! as u come throu the "s" bend at the end...i know different engin but still........   its just AI team mates i dont think its multi player on the same team... please dont shout at me!!lol

I\'m not using a GeForce 2. I\'m just refering to what the reviews are saying. Giants is a very complex game. I was refering my posts to THOSE screenshots. They appear to be using the settings such as 1024x768x32 w/ FSAA, lightmap, and trilinear filtering. No way in hell is that gonna run at 60fps on a GeForce 2 without a P3 800.

Even on a p3-800 w/a GeForce 2 the game won\'t run @ 60fps.

I\'m running it on an Athlon GHZ w/a GeForce 2 (GTS/PRO) 64MB DDR.. and it\'s not always 60..

- what\'s in the f\'cking box?

And for the record, I believe the PS2 has superior lighting compared to a PC. While the GeForce 2 might have more light sources, no game on PC has lighting that looks like the PS2. And I\'ve played *all* the next-gen PC games..

When they make a card that is utilized to its full potential then I\'ll be happy. I hope people will be satisfied with their $600 investment. Anyhow, Q3A has nice lighting but nothing special compared to PS2. Simple lightmaps..

I\'m not bashing PC\'s, I\'m using one, and I love it, but in some areas it falls short. Just like in some areas the PS2 falls short.

Wow another PC port . I dont think its fair to compare the PS2 to those will run on a P2 233 PC games and put down the PC. I think there are some games that look great on the PC. Wait until geforce 3 games arrive then compare. Remember these games(giants) were in development over three years ago. The PC does not do shadows well? The shadows in blade of darkness are awsome. The PS2 has many advantages over the PC for developers because they do not have to hit that moving target. However the PC does offer things that consoles cannot do. I find nothing wrong with the graphics and colors I have seen in Drakan, Deus Ex, NOLF(very beautiful) Alice, Heavy Metal Fakk2 and many more. If they were to maximize games for those high end-PCs then I believe you would see somthing. The various hardwares is a disadvantage to the PC but it still rocks.
