Title: I am taking The Bouncer back today (It truly is a BAD game) :(
Post by: Gman2 on March 13, 2001, 11:19:08 AM
I went ahead and purchased the Bouncer this weekend (against almost everyone\'s advice) Why not, I thought, the star wars jedi game (for PS1) got bad reviewes but I love it!
So I got it home and played it (If thats what you call it)
Because you are actually only "playing"  about 1 minute at a time (no kidding!)
and then there is 3 or 4 animations and then you get to fight again (for about 1 minute) and over and over and over.....
the game is stopped CONSTANTLY. You can never get into it at all.
After all the pretty cut scene graphics get old, you get bored...real fast.
And they say in the book " Play the game over with different people to get the most out of it."
Well, I still only get to play like one minute at a time no matter who i pick, and it\'s the same thing, over and over.
I really tryed to like this game. If for no other reason, just because I spent $50 on it. And I did not want to feel stupid. Well guess what, I feel stupid.
It really is bad.

Man, the games for this system are very dissapointing.

I like the game so far its pretty fun.  But I have only really played it for about a half hour..

You don\'t get to fight that long at all, its really quick and then a lot of movies.

Its a damn shame....  I will keep the game though, its still has some really nice show off graphics and its not that bad to play...

I really would like an in depth game though, everything I have is short.  Something like...ahhh.ummmm...ahhh  Final Fantasy X..  Yeah that would be nice :eyemouth:

I am starting to ask myself the same qestion.
I guess the only real reason I have held onto it is because of madden.

Although there is really not much going for the PS2 right now as far as games go, I\'m waiting on TM:Black.  The DVD function is nice too.  I\'m hoping that this will start moving fast, because I\'m tired of reading previews when I should be reading reviews.  If you know what I mean, Vern.

I didn\'t get to buy The Bouncer, instead I bought Shadows of Destiny, reserved Onimusha and Z.O.E .
But, I have got quite awhile of play time in (enough to have Sion and Kou maxed out).
I have to say, the game could of been a classic, if they would of made it less "movie based". Added the supposed interactive backgrounds / items. So on and so on. The 4 player fighting mode is crap, IMO. The fighting engine is not near robust enough to have a true fighting game. Its just simple mindless fun.

Still, The Bouncer was over-hyped, that is the single worst aspect of it. People was expecting something different because of all the hype going on around this title.
I hope for a sequel and to see Dream Factory fix those annoying little problems in the first.

Nah. I liked it too. I can definitely understand why some people won\'t though. It\'s nothing out of this world, nor is it a POS. I just think it\'s a \'cool\' game. I love the character design.

Yeah few is exactly right.  The only games that appeal to me are DOA2 and Madden.  And I can\'t play those forever.

What can I say, the X is looking good and the software for our precious $300 babies is in low supply :(

There goes the plans to buy The Bouncer then... Well, I already knew there was about nothing to play there, but I thought that the periods would stand even a tad bit longer.

I\'m really moneyless. That means: I can\'t buy every game I would want. And every time I decide to buy a game, I will have to think weeks whether to buy the game or not. I\'m not going to buy a game just for cut-scenes. I won\'t buy a game wich has 2 hours of gameplay. I just don\'t have the money!

I, of course, would buy Bouncer if I\'d have lots of money. I think I\'d love the game. Love every minute in it. But it just is too short for my pennies... If I get bored to it in a week, then i will have to wait another 2-3 months to get a new game.

And I don\'t want to wait. I will buy a game that lasts next. Until then, I\'m happy with Final Fantasy IX.

I feel exaxtly the same way.
I am really dissapointed with this system\'s games.
It is getting old REAL fast.
I am hopefull of Twisted Metal Dark though.
(but then again, I have been hopefull with LOTS of games that just plain SUCK for this system)

And DARTH.......The GAME PLAY in this game is no where close to 2 hours. Maybe 2 hours TOTAL (including the 1 1/2 hours of animation) Thats leaves about 1/2 hour of actual PLAY time (no ****!) IF that!

I am sure you are like alot of people on this board who cannot buy all the games you want (including me)
Just rent this game. and keep your fingers crossed that they don\'t fu$k up TMD.

I have played it multi but not single so I really didn\'t get to figure out how to drive the things.  But it seemed kind of fun.  I was actually thinking about buying it, but I\'ll rent it first just to make sure it\'s worth it.

I understand Joyda, even if you were rich (like me :D ) that\'s no reason to waste money on games that you won\'t play very often.

I think that is another thing, alot of hype sorrounding titles that just aren\'t near as amazing as was promised.  The Bouncer was suppose to be something so great, but wasn\'t. By no means was it a horrible title, but it wasn\'t near what Square/Dream Factory had promised us PS2 owners. I played Streets of Rage 2 lastnight, and I couldn\'t help but think what they could of done with The Bouncer. Can you imagine Streets of Rage 2 gameplay with The Bouncer graphics and story? It would of been an instant classic. But instead, they focused more on making it an \'interactive action movie\', which really disturbs me. What is with all the games lately that have to be "interactive movies"? Er, thats a whole other subject anyways....

Anyways, I own 11 PS2 titles and I only play Shadows of Destiny, \'till tommorw that is. Onimusha comes out. I\'ll be a proud Capcom Whore . :)

have any of you ever bought systems at their launches before this one?  Compared to other systems launches PS2 has a great selections of games.  The dreamcast launch was horrible, I got so discouraged I sold and bought 2 dreamcast trying to decide wether to stick with it or not.  Alot of stuff hyped around the launch were either delayed or cancelled all together.  All the stuff I was waiting for didn\'t come untill a month or 2 before PS2 came out.  I know Ps2 launched a while ago but from my experience it takes a half a year to a year to pick-up.  I bet alot of you didn\'t get Psone untill it had been out for a while (not saying all of you) so you didn\'t notice it then.  Think about this, the average development period for a great game is like 2-3 years, PS2 has been out about 4 months and developers had   dev. systems maybe a year at most before that and that\'s not close to final hardware.  I\'m willing to bet microsoft\'s launch has similar hiccups in terms of games, but fortunatly, they concentated on getting as much quality software at launch as possible (Munch well in development when they picked it up and was supposed to be PS2 launch.) Unfortunatly, most of this is American software, which doesn\'t have as good a track record as Japanese software.  I\'ll stop babling now, sorry so long.

P.S. You should all buy indrema, it\'s good for the industry, and maybe you lazy ass\'ll even make a contrabution of your own. I can see it now. Members of forums like this getting together to create development teams, this must be a dream!

Playstation 1 launch was awesome.  Twisted Metal 1 and Resident Evil were all I played for months.

As far as buying another console, it\'s the X or nothing.  GCube doesn\'t interest me.  Halo is looking superb though.

You really should, ATV is a brilliant game in single player - and with the number of courses, the enduro-waypoint editor, and the multiplayer it has a lot of replay value. It might be the cure to your PS2 blues.

I guess I\'m the weird one here but I really enjoy the Bouncer.  I actually really enjoy all of the practically mindless fighting.  To me it\'s what made Final Fight and Double Dragon so much fun.

The graphics are superb and the gameplay, while shallow, is just plain fun to me.  It\'s just mindless fighting.  I love it!!!  I\'ve played through like 5 times and it\'s so not getting old to me.  I thought I was going to be so disappointed hearing everyone talking about how dumb and crappy this game is.  I went out to rent it and I loved it.  Picking up my own copy this weekend.

Sure the talking gets old, but I just skip it now (except for a couple really cool scenes).  But hey, I did the same thing with MGS and that was supperbly done.  Just after hearing the same conversation for the 4th or 5th time it gets a little old.  It would happen to any game.

Oh, I also forgot to mention the time.  Yeah it can be beaten in a little over an hour.  No big deal to me though.  That\'s exactly how Double Dragon and Final Fight were.  In fact you could probably beat those in like 45 minutes.  Sure we\'re more advanced when it comes to games now but The Bouncer is still just as fun as them, if not more.

My recommendation to anyone who is discouraged about this game is that they should just rent it first and if they like it like I did then go ahead and make the purchase.  If not, join the other 90% of people who\'ve played this game.  I hope I\'m not alone on this, maybe I\'ll have to make that 98%.
Title: meh its not that bad ...not that good either
Post by: Kenshin on March 14, 2001, 11:32:26 PM
meh , i guess its all a matter of opinions and ur taste in games. I also own the bouncer ( which i was able to purchase from a friend for 25 bucks). THe gameplay is rather repetitive and the cut scenes are plentiful. However I enjoyed playing through it. So far I\'ve played and beaten the game five times and all characters are maxed out adn have all their supers and what not. I also unlocked all the characters for the multiplayer mode.
The multiplayer mode is pretty fun, I enjoyed beating up my friend and fellow post-er Ryu. *koff koff I 0wn j00 Ryu koff koff*....Ok Ryu kicked my ass a couple times in teh multiplayer too but it was still fun none the less. I really wouldve liked it if we couldve used chairs and interact with the environment more like we saw in the preview movies and clips. Meh Overall this game isnt all that great but its not all that bad either really. It certainly is eye candy tho. Oh yah for people who are having trouble beating dauragon in the extra game , go to the hints, cheats, question section on this forum and look for my little strategy to beat him . :bounce:

Resident Evil was not a launch title. It came around about six months after the launch.
I didn\'t get a PSone until about two months after the launch as I was reserved on if Sony could be succesful, then I saw early pictures of Capcom\'s Resident Evil and went to purchase one. But, still had to wait maybe 4 months or so for Resident Evil.

Oh yeah, and the DC launch was not horrible. Sonic Adventure? House of the dead 2? SOUL CALIBUR? Horrible? Far from it.

Horrible launch was the N64. Why? It only had two games. Sure, they both was excellent, but only two games? That is pretty sad.

The bouncer is on the shorter side it only takes  one and A half hour to beat.It could have been A lot better if the story mode was 2 players.

the bouncer was adequate

great visuals but Gameplay was monotonous

I rented it and took it back a day early

Onimusha is tons more fun

Ring of Red is what I\'m really looking forward to playing, but I want to finish Onimusha first

I am curently renting it and have had fun so far but the 4 person battle thing is a bit stupid.......The graphics just reeek of awesomeness.......they could have done something about the monotonous run->Fight-> FMV fomula tho...the story line is pretty good.........I\'m taking a break right now........fingers hurt.   BTW did andyone ever accidentally hit the analog and have it lock up?  it did to me.....I gues that is why they say not to turn it off huh :)

Interesting! My PS2 hating son played this game all the way through in three hours and liked it. I must admit it was not the game we were promised in fact did not even come close. Seamless gameplay was the phrase I believe they used. What was up with that?So far nothing has really knocked my socks off. I hate to say this but Conkers Bad Fur Day is more fun than anything I have played on the PS2 so far(and that is on the dead N64, which I very much enjoyed its launch. Turok, wave race and Pilot wings). Now I hear ZOE is not all that great. Oh well heres waiting for GT3 and I hope my buying the PS2 for one game...Drakan 2 is not a let down. Im still playing the PC Drakan and it continues to amaze me. This game was simply one of the best I have ever played. Oh one more thing the DC launch rocked   one game .....Soul Caliber!
