Title: an example...comparison
Post by: MeTaL=DeaTh on March 14, 2001, 10:43:05 PM
ok this is a little example comparison between two game pics on opposite systems (Xbox & PS2 respectively) with viewpoints (draw distance) about the same in each pic as well as similar lighting in a darkened area. the first is Halo on Xbox and probably been in development longer on Xbox than the game shown for PS2 (as it was just announced / shown)
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.computerandvideogames.com%2Fnews%2F03_01%2F2353%2F29.jpg&hash=77e20357365e0761bc1ca4fe37a33951b51c53ca)
here is Blood Omen 2 on PS2
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.computerandvideogames.com%2Fnews%2F03_01%2F2352%2F6.jpg&hash=567c75d43c645af5d76ebfc9f4e995274cf0afe1)
so where\'s the huge leap? ok we have heard the games are not running on completed hardware but i don\'t buy that argument, the games currently shown (like Halo) will be slightly enhanced from how we see them, they will not be changed magically to some new game, you will be disappointed if you think otherwise

Is there something wrong with the Halo shot that I don\'t see? It looks like a really good screenshot to me.

The Halo is clearly better looking, but Soul Reaver 2 isn\'t the game you should compare it against.

MeTaL=DeaTh- Where is your GameCube pic? Here\'s a random one.

Ha! A demo from a long time ago looks better than both of them. Just goes to show that Nintendo is smart by not hyping their system.:)

Werd.  I said that same thing as soon as gamestock started and most people just fed me that same old BS excuse "unfinished dev kits."  So, what am I to look forward to when devs have but 3 months to spend with FINISHED dev kits?  NGC\'s have been done since August... I guess we all know which one I\'m looking forward to moreso.

Jumpman you are right,i was just demonstrating game pics (not what type of game they were in comparison or how they played),the visual leap is not there (by the way i\'m thinking both games will be out at similar time?),that\'s what i was pointing out only. i only showed a PS2 vs. Xbox comparison because these systems seem to be the consoles everyone wants to use in a fight :D also i was looking for similar kinds of pics and well Nintendo didn\'t have much to choose from at this moment (actually i wouldn\'t mind seeing some hyped GC pics about now,the less i see or know of makes me wonder if GC ever gets released j/k :) )

ROLF! I love that expression! Did you see the Simpson\'s episode where that guy from Nsync kept saying that? I do the best impression of it. Werd...I got to cool down...

Wait a second, their dev kits(Microsoft\'s) aren\'t finished yet? How do they plan on releasing this year? Strange, Xbox fans keep muttering that GameCube will be delayed when Xbox\'s dev kits arn\'t even complete and Nintendo\'s have been complete since August! Crazyness.

Yeah.. I know that was your purpose. I just saw an opportunity to make NGC look superior. Sue me. :D

that gc shot doesn\'t show great draw distance, the real outdoor halo shots do! btw legacy of kain 2 will rock! ;)

.....although Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 is at an early stage of development...it shows graphics close to X-Box\'s one and better than the Zelda\'s one in the overall aspect...my opinion...

...

No offense but I don\' care what your opinion is but that Zelda demo looks noticeably better than that PS2 pic. Look at the textures. Can you see the little dents in Gano\'s sword? Awesome. I don\'t think anyone with clear vision would disagree with me on that one.

Bad shadowing, bad textures, jaggies, bad lighting, are not found in the Zelda pic like Blood Omen2 one.

Right on!

And like I said, that was just a random pic. Here\'s a better one.

Still having doubts anyone? Dont\' make me find those realtime Rebirth pics!

Well....the second shot you showed is really better than the first....I have to correct myself...the graphics is better than both X-B0X\'s one and PS2\'s one.....(I\'m not blind Jump-Man)....only a thing...can you give me some URL where I can find the latest info and shots on the GC?  Thanks :)

mmmmmm, Zelda.

Anyway, I can\'t see a huge difference in the Halo and Blood Omen pics.  I think they both look good but neither are mind blowing.

Hey Clyde, I wish I could see your face(?) when E3 rolls through. :D

A couple of things.

1: Yes, Halo will look better.  They were showing the latest build at the show and, of course, it needed another debug so a lot of the atmospheric effects were missing.  Most importantly the trees the blow in the breeze which are supposed to look amazing.  Did you know the smoke from the gun was actually manipulated by and early version of the breeze in the playable demo?  It was nothing amazing but it was a nice extra.

2: The Zelda demo looks very nice but so does the Raven & Robot demo.  My point?  Both where tech demos so it is hard to bring them into in-game debates.

3: In case someone missed it; the Gotham racer was made in four weeks and two of those with actual dev kits.

Silly chimp. That demo was created in a few days believe it or not, it couldn\'t of been polished.

Also...

MSNBC: Will the look of the games and the polygon counts be as remarkable as they were in the footage?
       Miyamoto: Yes, 100 percent assurance.
MSNBC: Can you say what kind of polygon levels we will see during games?
Miyamoto: What we’re running was not at peak level. This was what we can run at a constant rate from beginning to end, not at only one instance like the technical shows you saw with the other game machines.

BizioEE- get glasses. Everyone here thinks the Zelda pic looks superior graphics wise. There must be something wrong with your vision.

Guys graphics aint everything u know.If i were to choose between ff7 and Ready 2 rumble 2 id choose ff7 simply because i think it has better game play.It\'s like this u guys from what u r saying is u\'d rather have the bouncer if u had the choice between it and chrono chross!just because something has great graphics doesnt mean it will be better than the game with the worst graphis.But...even if GC\'s pokemon series has good gameplay and graphics, well... lets put it this way...it will still suck!

HALO looks incredible. Though I\'m no tech-head (far from it!), the textures on the soldier/gunner, and the level of distance you can see is remarkable. I do admit that the level of detail presented on Ganon wipes the floor with HALO (awesome shadowing and lightening effects not seem on HALO), but that\'s because everything was focused on the characters in the Zelda demo. If you take a closer look, the background is very depressing; the tiles on the ground are ugly, and the walls aren\'t nearly as beautiful as Ganon and Link. As for the Blood Omen pics... well, IMO, they\'re horrible. You should pick a better pic to represent the PS2\'s graphical prowess, maybe something from MGS2 or ZOE. Now those are some pretty games.

nope! i don\'t know how you come to that conclusion,i was just pointing out comparisons of the two games on both systems from the pics, nothing more.

oh i forgot to please everyone before i posted this topic, next time i\'ll post every single pic for every single game  the topic had nothing to do with which game will play or look better ok,got it?! it was just about graphic comparisons on both systems from what is shown from the pics from a technical standpoint. if you don\'t like Blood Omen, fine i don\'t care...yes the comparison can be done with MGS2 as well, but i was looking for similar shots that showed draw distance, lighting (obviously with characters in them as well) and the like.
