Title: Quick question: how loud is your PS2 fan?
Post by: raysmd on March 15, 2001, 03:05:40 PM: I just got my PS2 and Onimusha. However, my PS2\'s fan is pretty loud.

Is that normal?

I guess I was comparing it to my PSX that\'s probably why I was a little paranoid.

Well the fan in your PS2 is quite a bit beefier for obviuos reasons.

Be thankful you can hear the fan running cause if you can\'t then your in trouble

I think that sound is your CD drive.....

If it\'s loader than your CD drive when loading a game....than you have a bad fan.....

PS2s DVD Drive spins at 24x i believe, which can be pretty loud. If you have a newer faster PC CD-ROM drive, you know what I am talking about. Plus the fact that the fan is adding some extra noise. As soon as you use it alot, you won\'t even notice it anymore. Just turn up the volume on your reciever and you\'ll be fine. But, here\'s a tip: Keep PS2 in the horizontal position. I had the stand, and the friggin\' thing vibrated like all hell. I keep mine horizontal at all times.

The fan is still pretty quiet, although the drive
is noisy with some games.
I\'m not complaining because the drive is 24 speed
and the ps2 smaller than a pc and it\'s frame is plastic.
So I reckon that\'s as quiet as it gets !

Post by: on March 19, 2001, 09:40:42 AM: the PS2 fan probably shouldn\'t be any louder than that of a PC. That might help you in comparing it, to see if you have a loud fan or sensitive ears. :)

HAHA, if the PS2\'s one mini lil fan was louder then the two big fans in my comp, I\'d unplug that thing and get a replacement immediately. Anyways, my PS2 is super quiet, but my DC however, you can drop an H-bomb and you will still here that DC fan loud and clear. ;)

I\'d be interested to know exactly \'how loud\' the fans really are of the people complaining.

When it reads the games it makes this horrific grinding noise that makes you want to launch it out the window in fear that it\'ll blow up...you can here the laser trying to read the disc...it\'s scary...
