Ok I started RoR last night but I am just in the training missions
1st impressions
it starts off sssslllllllooooooowwwwwwwwwww.
but it will take people a little while to understand the menu\'s and such
There\'s alot of reading. Games like this are not big budget. Therefore voice acting gets cut. One thing I hated about Front Mission was tons of reading (and a weak teenie bopper storyline IMO). We\'ll see how RoR goes about it later on, because its the beginning There is much to learn to get up to speed.
My battles we\'re brief and to the point. Like I said training, I can see how the aiming and timing play a part in the strategy and already am looking forward to large in depth battles.
Not much to report early on but as I journey into the game I\'ll give ya\'s a better feel of how the game is
-
I may buy this game later in the week.
-
I was thinking of buying this game..but I dont know. I\'m wondering if its going to be fun..or very frustrating.
-
i won\'t have to buy / rent this game,a guy i work with just bought it,he will let me use it after he\'s thru with it :) he told me it reminds him of jap anime in some ways
-
when hes through with it huh? that may be a while - i think it is suppost to be over 100 hours of gameplay - could be wrong though
Anyway i got the game when it came out and have been playing it in my free time and am on the 4th mission - i really think the game is cool - and trust me ddaryl it does pick up after those lame training missions - hell it actually gets cool in the training missions - if you have played it you know what i mean. also there is a lot of fighting and the talking isn\'t too bad as you go on.
to me though the game is cool if you like front mission - i like the aiming deal and when you get troops the game gets a lot deeper - trust me this game is a must if you like mech strategys m- don\'t know if it is for everyone though
-
pretty much the way I anticipate it to be.
I\'ll get into it somemore tonight

wow, that is a long game then!! i have other games that will occupy my time before i play that anyways :)
-
Front Mission 3 was 100 hours but RoR as I understand it is somewhere around 40 - 60 hours I believe
don\'t know for sure yet. there\'s 20 missions and each mission takes an hour to 2 to complete plus commentaries in between missions
-
oh well i said that becuase the mag i read said that missions could take as long as 4-5 hours max
so i figure it depends how long you take - it could take up to 100 hours for some people - but i guess most will take about 60 hours
thats still alot of gametime
-
I have played it sence opening. It does start out slow. And since im not in the mode for a review and this is ddaryle\'s thread, I agree with everything he siad.
-
Ring of Red looks sweet!
I must rent this one before i buy it..I am not really into these kinds of games but maybe that could change.
-
well i reaeally want to get this game, im just waiting for more responses on it. like how good the gameplay is.
-
Day 2
Well Ring of Red is still progressing slowly. I am into my 2nd non training mission now.
The map allows you to move a few squares at a time, depending on AFW charteristics. You can move, move and attack, move and recouperate, or pass. There are towns and cities on the mapo that have soldiers there, You can pick up new troops to use later on by stopping at the cities for a turn.
during battles
I have learned when to send my troops to the front and when to pull them back. But I haven\'t quite figured out Which infaltry otr troops I should leave on the ground and which I should keep on my AFW.
I also have figured out how to use special attacks, these are very benficial but you can\'t use them all the time otherwise you won\'t have them when you need them
Aimming is a part of the game, but I haven\'t quite figured out how it works, it obviously gets easier and the percentage gets higher the longer you hold your aim, but this also allows for enemies to slap you with a few rounds and stifle your aiming somewhat. Pulling the trigger early gives you a less of percentage to hit the target, but I\'m also under the impression you can over come the low percentages with skill which I obviously have none
Knowing your enemies stats and your own stats can help a battle sway in your favor. AFW\'s with long range weapons will have high % shots much quicker from long range, where as a long range AFW in short range is more of a handicap, and vice versa
Close combat happens when your AFW actually walks close enough to the enemy and is actually closer then short range. this is done by watching a guage in the middle of the screen and promts from your pilots
Close combat is a oneshot deal, weird thing is I have dodged and countered all of the enemies Close combat attacks but no enemy has yet to dodge and counter my close combat attacks
Also when a close combat move is finished, so is the battle regardless of time left. So using C.C. for the final kill or to quickly strike and get out of a battle is the strategy needed here
There are lots of things about the game I have not begun to understanf like Sld, anyone know what this guage on AFW set-up tells me.
So far the game is alright, but I am not blown away nor am I believing this is the best console based strategy game ever, but its still very early
anyone else have some things to add
battles are well over an hour long apiece
-
Hows the game going now D?
-
I thought nobody was interested so I wasn\'t going to bother
Day 3
Anyway, I\'m getting more familiar with the game the menus and such like expected
The game is not a graphical masterpiece by any means, its actually very low poly and low res textures in places. But games like these don\'t get big budgets to start
Gameplay is picking up some and I have acquired some new soldiers or infantry with better and more special attacks
Unlike FM3 where you purchase body parts for your mech and each one has a special attack that can be mastered, RoR utilizes Troop skills to add to your Mech or your battlefield. Having a good mix of skills is part of the strategy.
Also before you go into battle a screen pops up and shows your 3 accompanying troops, you choose one troop to be the crew on your AFW who has its own pilot as well, each troop has a Front Skill and Rear Skill and a Crew Skill. With 1 troop as the crew on your AFW 2 troops will be placed behind your AFW one on each side. The troops on the ground will usually let you know when they are ready to perform an attack, to you can watch for a flashing troop Icon on your AFW screen display. You can then move 1 or both troops to the front to perform aggressive maneuvers which is either attack Enemy AFW or enemy troops. You need to know when to pull them back as well or they will take a beating
As I mentioned earlier when you on the map there are cities and towns occupying a town will sometimes award you with new soldiers with new skills but stretching yourself thin to acquire these new soldiers will prove to be your downfall, just ask me. I spent 1.5 hours in battle and lost cause of this philosophy. You cannot use these new soldiers until the mission is over and you start the next mission
Also
My pilots skills are increasing and aiming has become faster for some, understanding each AFW\'s stats will help you to determine if you want to attack from a short medium or long range. Some AFW\'s aim much faster from long range then short and vice versa.
Overall the game is addicting. I still like a lot of stuff about FM3 like its Sci-fi theme of weapons over RoR nastalgia type world. But I like RoR\'s way of allowing me to choose when to use special attacks not random like in FM3. I also like the real time battles in RoR but they seem a little redundant in flavor and style.
Somehow melding FM3 and RoR would provide a perfect game. But its still early
-
I too am still intrested in hearing what you think about the game. I appreciate the reviews keep em coming. :D
-
I didn\'t see this thread before, but I\'ll post some short opinions of mine on RoR...
This game is my #1 favorite game for PS2 so far... I LOVE the theme, and the mech designs...
Graphically it even is very good IMO. Details such as many different areas to fight in depending on your map location such as villages, forests, mountains, rivers, bridges, and prison camps; lookout towers even have two different stages, one if they\'re destroyed and one if they\'re not. I also love the heat wave effects in the game, the best I\'ve seen so far, including the GT3 demo.
Gameplay is also excellent in my opinion... one of the best strategy games ever, the gameplay is like a combination of Iron Storm and Dragon Force for Saturn... the mechs are the commanders, only it is more complex strategy than Dragon Force.
Again, the story and theme really are good for me... The story might even stimulate your mind a little. The music is pretty unmemorable however. I like the sounds of the weapons, what little you hear. Also, I like a lot of the character designs, they help to draw you in.
The battles keep a consistant level of decent challenge, and are quite long, but allow a save mid-level that will be deleted when you restart, forcing you to re-save the mid-scenerio progress again if you want to quit. That way you can\'t really cheat the system.
Anyways, there are very few strategy games I\'d put at the level of Ring of Red... A must buy for any strategy game fan IMO.
-
I\'ll keep the updates coming so people can get a real feel for the game
Its a mixed bag in the graphics department. There are some strengths but overall RoR doesn\'t really push the PS2 in any category. Its just an addicting strategy game
We\'ll see how the game manages to keep me interested, cause if it follows this recipe for 16 more missions or so it will get boring, new mechs and such should be coming my way shortly
The game is long I lost mission 6 once by spreading my troops trying to get extra soldiers and that was bad strategy cause as soon as Infiltrated a new town new enemies would appear
Also I screwed up and let my little guy make the qst move in battle and he ended upo getting surrounded before I could get him out of there so I just reset the game and I\'ll try again tonight
-
This game does rock... Its involved though... ANd there is no way to pause it..
I have played it for about 2 - 3 hours now and the game picks up quite a bit once you start progressing.. And about grabbing towns and spreading yourself thin, its all about the strategy. Which is still taking me a little bit to get used to what the computer is going to do, but its not that complicated. Graphicaly the game is damn good, escp. when the time changes and the backgrounds reflect whats going on, daytime, night time. etc.
I recommend this game to people who like strategy games, if your not a fan of them, then rent it, cause I don\'t feel like listening to you complain on how the game sucks...
Ddaryl, keep the posts up, I will as well. I think this game is already worth the money I spent on it... Hopefully it will take awhile to play and wont be another short run...
:D

Yes you can pause the game or save in the middle of battles.
for pausing
When ever its your turn you can just wait until your ready to continue on the map, or in battle when your in your menu screen time stays still
for saving (on the map only)
Put the cursor on your character when its your turn to move and hit X. You\'ll see a menu called "Stop" by pressing stop it will offer you a chance to save. When you save it will save the game in a slot above your last save. This way you can take up the battle where you left off or you can start from the beginning in case your strategy ended up sucking ass
-
Day 4
Well I\'m at mission 7 Prison camp.
I played for 1/2 hour and lost Weis AWF which is a condition for a loss.
I realized how important it is not to get yourself into a position where 3 or so enemeies can all have a go at one of your AFW\'s which usually means defeat
After restarting the mission I also decided to switch some of my Soldier troops to ones with Illumination attacks. These soldiers shoot a kind of missle or firecracker that hovers over the enemy and illuminates the target for night battles. This increases your aiming correction and capabilities.
Things are going smoother now but I\'m only half way thorugh this battle, I had to save and come to work.
I have up levels on all my AFW\'s and pilots and troops and received a few new attacks, but no new AFW\'s.
Anyway again the game is addicting, my lawns is 7 inches high and I dread having to give up a morning of playing RoR to tend to it. Life sucks, if you live in Eastern Wash and want to make $30 give me a call
Anyone have any questions about the game fire away. I seem to have a very solid grasp of it now
-
Thanks for the updates ddaryl,
I probably won\'t be picking up the game until May 2nd (my final exam, confirmed), but I just wanted to know if I should play Front Mission 3 first? I don\'t think I\'ve played a console strategy game before, and I just wanted to know if I\'d be able to pick up RoR without being too frustrated, or should I get FM3 first?
Cheers.
-
FM3 is a cool game - minus the teenie bopper storyline and the excrutiating amount of reading the gamne puts you thorugh. I got so frustrated with FM3\'s story and reading I bypassed 50% of it. Luckily its easy to do and the gameplay is basically uneffected, although I has a strat guide with FM3 and recommend one to understand all the parts and stuff
FM3 has elements in its game that I wish RoR had and vice versa. Ror is a little more sophisticated and alot less story driven in comparison which are 2 things I like about RoR over FM3
I do not think you would suffer any frustrations with RoR, so playing FM3 just to understand RoR is not necessary at all
My recommendation is play both, but if you want a PS2 game then RoR will be fine. If you played both FM3 and RoR you\'d be looking at 150 - 200 hours of gameplay/time
I have to admit I would love to see Square make a Front Mission Tactics type of game. A game based more on gameplay then story, and upgraded to take advatage of the PS2\'s capabilities, something RoR doesn\'t do enough of. RoR is not a PS1 game but doesn\'t really show off the power of the PS2 either.
A combination of both RoR and FM3 is my perfect mech turnbased strat game
-
these liyttle everyday post you have been making ddaryl are sweet, please dotn stop, seeing as hopw i cant buy it yet :im getting Z.O.E. in 7 days :p" i have been reading these little articles, so what would you rate the gamne so far, when you play in a battle is it in a in game state or like chess with the red and blue??? what does it look like?

Rating the game so far
Graphics: 7
Sound: 8
Gameplay: 8
The game plays in 3 stages.
1st stage is story progression, mission agenda, and battle preperation.
Basically you get a run down of events surrounding the world you are in, some character interaction to make the game feel more personal, and your preperation area, where you choose what sodiers will accompany which AFW
You then proceed to the missions which have 2 stages.
the 1st battle stage is your overhead chess board type of map. You are allowd to move your AFW\'s to positions you feel they will belong. You can also stay put and pass a move if you choose. After a move you can choose to attack if an enemy AFW is in range or recoup if you need to repair yourself and your troops. Each troop and AFW has repair / recoup abilities so how much you are repaired varies.
the 2nd battle stage is your battle mode which is done in realtime.
YOu can move your AFW forward or reverse or stay put. Not moving allows for faster reloading. Moving closer or further away increases your starting aim percentage depending on your AFW. Some AFW\'s aim better from afar some from close and others right in the middle. ALso getting close enough to an enemy allows for Close combat maneuvers and moving the furthest away allows for escape possibilities. ALthough if you engage in short range you\'ll never make it far enough back to escape and if you engage in long range you\'ll never make it close enough to use close combat.
After battles are done you are returned to the map to either make another move or watch the enemy take its turn.
SPreading your troops usually spells disaster
-
ah i c, well it sounds very cool so far, thanks, im trying to find a place to rent this game :) while i wait for Z.O.E.
-
So the would you advise getting this game if your limited financially?? Or wait for a better game to come out soon. Thanks for the reviews they are helpful.
-
Recommending this game for those strapped for cash is a hard call. Renting this game is pretty useless cause you\'ll never finish it
The game is fun and addicting, but its not quenching my thirst for ZOE and MGS2 next week. I\'m enjoying the game alot, but its not a system showcase type game.
I would recommend renting it getting a taste and then decide if you want to buy it.
-
it ok if i dint finish it, i will when i buy it :), i just wana see if it orth the buy, what im worried about is the slow begining, it might give me a bad impression i will probably play this game all day , im gonna rent it tomorrow and check it out :)

Day 5
Today can be summed up in one word
UGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
I started mission 7 before work yesterday, spent close to an hour. Got home last night and played mission 7 for another 2 hours for 3 hour total of invested time. I was down to 3 more battles and I would have cleared the entire board, but what happens. I get a "Mission Failed" because I went over the allotted time period for this mission.
My strategy of take on all baddies and clear the board was obviously the wrong strat. Since I am an hour into mission 7 again I have refined my strategy somemore and am making a B-Line for the objective instead of playing kill all.
Still I am being pursued form behind by a coouple enemy AFW\'s and I am heading into a couple more AFW\'s but this is what has to be done (I think)
I\'ve also noticed (now that I screwed up) how the time works in the game. When you take a turn you are showned the time of your next turn for that AFW. If you choose to move and recuporate (heal) your next turn is a longer wait then just a move or attack turn which can alllow Enemy AFW\'s 2 or more moves to your 1 .
Choosing recup can leave you as a sitting duck if your not far enough away from the enemy, or choosing recuperate when you really don\'t need to can waste valuable time and leave you in a mission failed situation.
-
very intresting.. thankyou ddary!
i think i will buy this game specially after your comments on it. i am a great fan of FM3... it was also adicting to me. the story of FM3 was silly at times as you say, sometimes there is too much repetition, but because the game is soo kewl overall it didn\'t matter to me and i have a lot of patiance so i listened to every word said in FM3 despite how long it was! ( well that\'s me! ).
i think i understand what you meant about FM3, there were some missing things that i wanted to see. like more real-time accpets.. in FM3 you just tell the robot what to do and he does it so you have no actuall control of the action. it\'s nice to hear that this is being improved in ring of red. but it is disapointing to hear that ring of red does not have the nice ideas in FM3 like the customization of the mechanical machines.
but if it is addictive, this means i have to give-up some weekend football games!!! grrrr..
-
If you liked FM3 you\'ll like RoR no doubt about it.
I\'ve said it before though, there are things in FM3 that I would like to see in RoR like the ability to construct your own Mechs with each mech part having its own special attacks that in conjuction with top computers gave you some kick ass special moves. I also like the sci-fi theme of FM3 a little more
But RoR allows you to choose when to use a special attack and its the pilots and soldiers that have these special moves. I like choosing when to use special attacks cause that makes it more strategic, but FM3 special attacks we\'re way cooler.
So if Square makes FM4 and takes some notes from RoR it could be perfection for this style of game IMO
-
yeah.... i have a feeling that square might make FM4 on PS2.. i hope they do it..
-
Day 6
Well I\'ve covered alot of whats in the game so if anyone wants to know alot about RoR read my Day 1 thu Day 5 rants. this should give you a solid idea of what RoR is all about
Today and last night I made it past mission 7 and started mission 8. Enemies are getting tougher, and I am now controlling 7 AFW\'s. I started with 4
It looks like I will eventually get an 8th but I believe that will be it.
I\'ll be playing RoR into APril with ZOE coming out next week
-
This game seems sweet.
I wish I made more money so I could get it.
Not only do I have to pay for College, but now I have a car payment every month.
Game purchases are going downHill from here.

I hear ya, for the next few games though I\'ll be trading in some of my other PS2 games and a quite a few of the PSX games I don\'t play. Hopefully, I can get a good research job this summer or I\'m going to be selling organs on the black market (which I believe is preferable to working retail). ;)
Fancy a kidney anyone?
-
Yeah.
I have a liver if anyone wants one.
I was thinking about trading in Summoner and Kessen for Ring of Red, you think they will take that deal?
-
Depends on how old it is, EB said they\'d actually give me more for FaceOff 2001, than for Fifa 2001.
You need your liver to live, but you can sell a part of it which can be used for transplantation.
I\'m going to try and flog my appendix to some poor unsuspecting buyer....
-
I\'ll give you Ring of Red for your Liver
I\'ll probably go on a drinking binge since I won\'t have to worry anymore with a spare liver in the fridge
-
I\'ll give you a kidney AND my appendix for RoR.
...And for a limited time only if you call now you get a FREE pancreas!
[Note: Offer only valid while supplies last]
And they say we live in a mass media-dominated culture...bah!
-
HAHAHA!
DEAL!
I dont drink anymore anyway.
One time I had 22 shots of vodka in an hour and I threw up for 2 hours and fell asleep with my head on the toilet, after that....I could just never bring myself to drink anymore
Any doctors in the house?
-
I hope to be a doctor, I have a med school interview this Sunday, and another one next Sunday. My brain is completely fried right now - been spending the past few hours just reading these bioethics essays....and contemplating the organ black market - which I hear is big in Russia. :)
-
Awesome.
Good luck with the interviews.
My goals are nowhere near as ambitous.
I just want to be a history teacher, who also teaches a Military History class.
I also want to write books.
See....No ambitions for me.
I just want to have a job I will enjoy.

Hey, writing a book is no small feat - that\'s a great ambition to have. Books are timeless, write a good book and your ideas can live forever.

ddaryl,
Arggh, I cannot believe it took me this long to find this place! I love Ring of Red, been playing it nonstop since Wednesday. As FM3 was one of my favorite PSX strategy games, I agree that a fusion of the two would be perfect. What disappoints me most about RoR is the simplicity of the overworld map, very flat to me after FM3. No map rotation either. Another bad would be the translation, AWFUL. Not that the import dialogue was Xenogears quality, but some of the lines in RoR US are just baffling. A few of the conversations end with an inappropriate use of the "Yes/No" choice box. Ryoko would ask Wei something like, "So, why did you come to Japan to fight?" and his response would pop up as "Yes/No". That was not a yes or no answer bucko.
I\'m on Mission 9 and have yet to die, but my brief time with the import release probably helped. That prison level you talked about was indeed a pain, took me forever since new enemies kept popping up. And the stage immediately after took even longer, probably 1.5 hours for me. I\'m being vague on purpose to avoid spoilers.
I like the number of available units per battle, not as limiting as FM3 where you had a large cache of mechs but could only commit a limited amount to each battle.
Have you started shifting infantry around yet or have you largely kept the default ones? I\'m beginning to value infantry more and more, taking care to eliminate "troop-killer" enemy types such as those with "rapid-fire" before they harm my squads.
One of my favorite combos right now is 1 squad with "co-op" pair with a squad with either "rapid-fire" or "focus". Co-op+RP can just about wipe out an entire vanguard in one pass. After their attack, I pull them back and launch "sharpnel". I find AFWs without troop support extremely easy to defeat. They lack special skills, load slower, and are helpless against anti-AFW infantry.
I discovered MAX pilot abilities fairly late, Mission 8. "Emergency load" certainly would have made life easier for me early on. Haha.
-
You haven\'t died yet ???
Have you lost a mech ?????
I only died the one time because I used a poor strategy and didn\'t really keep the time consequences in mind
I lost both my small lightweight mechs in mission 8 but beat the level still. Granpa\'s AFW is one close comabt bad mofo, just get in close go right for C.C. and let the other mech have it. Keep a soldier with wire on the front with grandpa and let them imobolize the enemy AFW then when you go in for C.C. they can\'t counter, your in and out with no damge to yourself and over 100 damage to the enmy and 150-180 with a special attack C.C.
It kinda sucked I moved them in to assist with the removal of Damaged AFW\'s and they couldn\'t finish the job next thing I know the enmy get 3 turns in a row and I just couldn\'t escape the battlefield do to the "wire" special atack used by the enmy.
Yeah I\'m always swapping soldiers around trying to come up with good combos
I used 2 rapid fire troop together on one lightweight mech and that reaped havoc on a few enemy troops before my lightweight was destroyed as mentioned above.
I think the yes and no answers to questions slightly effect what the enmy does. I\'m thining randomly it adjusts small things, of course I don\'t know for sure, its not like I\'m going to play RoR a 2nd time just to here the different reply\'s
and Lavanbest of luck or skill or whatever you need to ace your interview. If you ever come across an extra spleen give me a ring.
-
Just beat mission 9. Clocked in at about 4 hours
This level proved to be the most fun just because I really kicked alotta ass this time. Using wires mines and close combats really was fun
I also let my lightweight run around and visit all the hard to get to cities to pick up new soldiers
Still 11 missions to go, alot of game for your money here if this type a game is your bag
-
I bought this game a couple days ago, and sadly, I\'m disappointed with it so far. As of now I\'m on the mission where I must escort a truck up north to some town or something. Anyway, I find the battles to be way too slow and repetitive, and I also don\'t like the cheap enemy hits (i.e. you destroy their weapon and send a million smoke bombs their way, but they\'re still able to land most of their attacks). I\'m hoping the game picks up in a short time, because I don\'t want to feel like I wasted my money.
-
the game picks up somemore as it rolls along, you\'ll learn more special attacks, your aiming increases, and your strategies will improve of course, also You\'ll eventually control 8AFW\'s and the enemy will start to bring stronger AFw\'s to challenge you.
Yes smoke bombs only increases the aiming time as does Flash, and some AFW\'s are stronger at certain distances which allows them to still be offensive when you use those attacks on them. However you\'ll get special attacks liek AIM weapon that directly damge enemy weapons, and they still can hit you but from my experienmce it has reduced their accuracy enough to give me the upper hand
You\'ll start to understand more of the strengths and weaknesses of the AFW types and assign the appropriate troops. You\'ll also start to undersatnd how to use Close Combat and escape to your advatages, as well as knowing when to recoup stand-by or attack, each choice effects the time to your next scheduled move
Animations can get repetitive but think of it as a game where you can eat a meal and play at the same time ;).
Honestly I would recommend anyone who hasn\'t bought the game to rent it first, because I know its not going to appeal to alot of people. But overall the game proving to be a cool fun title.
I\'ll probably put RoR aside to play ZOE and MGS2, but this game will still be here for me to occupy my time after all that.
Keep me posted 182ways and let me knwo if the fun level increases for you somemore. I honestly felt a little dissapointed early on myself, yet the game remained strangely addicting and now I\'m just having soem fun with it.

Thanks ddaryl, the interview went okay, there were three interviewers; a faculty member, a med student, and a community member. Most of the questions they asked were pretty easy, but every once in a while they\'d chime in a with a medical ethics question. I\'ve also done a lot of English courses as electives and the faculty member kept drilling me on why I wanted to do medicine over English - it got kind of annoying after a while. I think I did okay, I\'ve got an interview with another med school next week.
RoR sounds great, but the individual missions sound a bit too long - is there any way to save within a mission?
-
yes you can stop the mission and save
but once you start up again you can\'t go back to that save spot. Say you restarted a saved mission made a few moves and decided you screwed up and wanted to go back to the save spot and start again. You can\'t
-
But if you die during the mission you can still start at the begining of it, just not at the save point, right? (sorry, my brain is fried)
-
Yeah if you die you need to restart that mission. This is because you probably need to re-think your strat from the beginning
-
It\'s great to hear such good things about Ring of Red! I walked into GameStop at my mall today with my copy of Madden 2001 because I was going to trade it in towards my already Pre-Ordered Z.O.E. I put Madden on the desk and say "How Much can I..." The Clerk interupts "You have Madden!!! I was just about to order it online! Listen, I will give you this Sealed Copy (it was his personal copy that he never got around to playing) of Ring of Red for your used copy of Madden (which was only worth $25 store credit)" I agreed and happily walked out of GameStop with my Sealed copy of Ring of Red. Now I will shop at GameStop alot more now that I have made a new friend! Also, can\'t wait to get back home to play RoR!!! It sounds awesome!

ddaryl,
I haven\'t lost a mech until today, on Mission 9. I did not know that if you lost the mech, you lost the accompanying soldiers as well. I had two very valuable squads with me that were badly hurt. To make things worse, the enemy troops had "snipe" skill so my guys couldn\'t be protected very well. So I made a suicidal charge, hoping to sacrifice Ayana and keep my squads intact for the next mission. Got into C.C. range, mech demolished, troops alive, I thought everything was fine. I proceeded to finish the extremely lengthy mission, no further losses though I had a few close calls with the light mech when my opponent used "quick move" to punch me at C.C. Anyways, while sorting out my formations I discovered that all three of Ayana\'s squads were gone, not just the crew. So now I gotta replay Mission 9 again. Ouch.
Still having a blast though. I\'ll be playing RoR nonstop until DDR ships. I\'ve already played ZOE/MGS2 demo import to death so that release won\'t slow me down. hehe

Mission 10 is turning out to be a ***** early
I started mission 10 2 times your squad is split over a hill so you can\'t get thenm grouped quickly.
I lost one of my Light AFW\'s both times within a few battles, they seem to go for him and his weak ass light AFW, I want him to run recon and pick up extra soldiers while the rest of the crew clears the board

naw the game progresses at a nice pace so by the time you are getting the hang of it the game sets harder

i got into it a little last night but dosed off almost during gameplay (not because of the game but because i was tired from work :) ),so i shut it down and went to bed. i should check it out more tonight and tomorrow... thanx ddaryl for all the info anyways

yeah cool
the game takes a little to get you in the groove, but you\'ll really need to understand your troops there attacks and when and where to use them later on
Enemies do get tougher, but so do you.
let me know how your enjoying it and wht your *****es are
I will probably put it down for a while 1morrow for obvious reasons

I rented R o R, that\'s RingOfRed, not Ring around the Rosies.
I\'m not too crazy about it. Slow gameplay really. Kind of reminded me of Vandal Hearts only not as fun :(
But I\'ll say this, the PS2 games are getting better, but we seriously need more 3rd party developers.
