After playing Onimusha through three times this weekend, I can say one thing about it:
THE ENGLISH VOICE-OVERS ARE TERRIBLE!!
ARRGH!
I know I can do better! Hell, my dog can do better!
Gimme a call Capcom! I\'ll do all the voices for ya! :D
-
Good thing you can choose Japanese voices huh? Which is what I would always do..
- dm
- what\'s in the f\'cking box?
-
lol, I agree...
-
Worst part??
"Sister!!!!!!"
That was maybe the worst one word in a voice over ever.
When I heard him say that , I decided that saving them wasn\'t quite so appealing.
-
yep that sister part wanted me to drive my sowrd thrue him and go, you suuck!!, and hte fact they would run out of breath was quit funny, thats why i put it in japanese voice overs the first time i played it and english the second time

Haha. I know it. At the end where Samonsuke is talking and there is no voice whatsoever. Looks like he is mumbling to himself.
Still, the "Sister" was the worst. Though, in reality, any line that kid had was pretty bad.

"Understand."
omg... it\'s one thing to get poor voices, but why the f*ck cant they at LEAST get them to recite their speech with some grammatically correct phrases. Understood dammit, UNDERSTOOD!

well ddaryl, i personaly liked lisening to the japanes voices than the english, sure it sounds stupid i guess not becuase of the crappy acting, but cause it suited the game itself better, i like the way it sounded with the game, its feudal japan right? then let it be japanes voices, we can read just use the sub titles, thats just my opinion and tast.

Sorry, listening to foreign languages in my games pisses me off. I speak english and that is all I ever want to hear in a game, bad voice acting or not.
to each his own, but I LMAO at people who take voice acting so seriously, it a videogame made by a Japanese developer thats the way it goes.
Nobody here really believes Capcom would waste money to redo animations to match English voices do they.
as for the grammar, who the hell care, you can still figure out where the story is going.
Just like old Godzilla movies, and such.

Hahaha. I forgot all about that. I don\'t get it, RE:CV had good voice acting (\'cept Steve).... Still, the voice acting is funny just as the same as Resident Evil\'s was..
"After all....You the master of lock picking!"
"Its..Its a monster!"
"You almost was a Jill sandwich!"
hahaha.
-
"STOP...Don\'t...open...that door!"
"Hooo-what is it?"
"I hope this isn\'t Chris\'s blood!"
"Let ME handle this!"
The worst part about these games is that they are trying to fit English into characters speaking Japanese, but also their MANEURISMS are coincided with the Japanese words they are speaking.
Also, even though I can\'t understand the Japanese, I know for a fact its just higher quality.
For example:
The voice of the Ogre spirits sounded ageless in the Japanese version. The English version sure had an age, they sounded like a 16 year old who just smoked 5 packs of cigarettes!
Also, the mad doctor demon sounded creepy as all hell in the Japanese version, but, in the English version he almost sounded comic-reliefish. Especially when he calls on his "creations" to attack! "Reynaldo! Attack!!" Sounds so limp-wristed that you would expect "Reynaldo" to come at you wearing pink fatigues, a purple beret and that sparkle eye-liner trying to squirt perfume on ya! :D
And another thing, I don\'t know if anyone noticed this, but in the English version at the end, the narrator calls Samonosuke "Sam-oh-no-sookee" rather than "Sam-oh-nooskee" as it is really pronounced. He only does it once and it is right at the beginning of his little speech.
DAMN! They didn\'t even go back and retake that one!!
I realize that this isn\'t the narrator\'s or the actor\'s fault, it is all on the director of the piece. Its his job to make sure that all of the stuff comes together to fit into the story, to make it flow and sound right!
If I thought this after the first time playing through in the English-language version, why couldn\'t he?
I\'m not trying to flame anyone here, got too much respect for y\'all :D just speakin\' out! That\'s all!
-
Yes, the English voice overs could have been better but they\'re not as bad as some of the other games I\'ve heard.
But even ~with~ excellent English voice overs, it still won\'t sound as dramatic when spoken in Japanese.
Why?
The Japanese have these inflections that are low, sometimes grunting, barking, sometimes hissing sentences. The very syllables sound dramatic. You\'ll notice that their language has a lot of "ka" "ki" "ke" "Ti" "Te" sounds. In our language, that sounds very threatening.
Example "I\'ll KICK your ass, you KocK suCKIng f@CKer, then I\'ll Kill you!"
English language is spoken in softer tones. To us, Japanese voice overs will always sound better than English.
-
Well, I think a lot of people hate their local versions.I`m sure a lot of Japanese games have bad voice-acting - we just don`t realize it.
That`s why I prefer English voices - it sounds cool because I don`t hear it all day long.
