Title: WCW shutting down?
Post by: Luke on March 19, 2001, 09:06:04 PM
This is a quote from wcw.com,

"Effective Tuesday, March 27, WCW programming will begin a period of hiatus. During this hiatus, WCW will review its programming plans and determine the course of future WCW-branded entertainment events. More information will be released as it is made available."

If they are shutting down for good this is bad news. Competition allways breeds quality. And with ECW and now this, who\'s the WWF got left to beat?

As you can see by  the lack of responses to your post, nobody gives a hoot about WCW. That is why they are shutting down. With ECW and WCW both gone, and new Federation will no doubt come up, all those wrestlers have gotta work you know?

wcw sucks

wwf will pick up the good ones, and the others can work fast food

WCW indeed does suck.  There are maybe 2 or 3 guys like the Cat and Lance Storm that need contracts elsewhere.

If WCW comes back they need to get their act together because my sister and I had rougher fights when we were kids than what Turner shows.  Whoever was going to buy WCW probably decided to watch the show one day and realized it sucked, so they backed out.

I agree WCW does suck bad. But a new owner and Erick Bischoff in control could make the product better. All I\'m saying is a lack of competition is very bad. As for a new federation poping up. I don\'t see it happeneng any time soon.

XPW-too local
NWA- just the opposite, they are just too big to put together one show with one roster of wrestlers.

Should be an interesting few months for wrestling fans.

My money is on WCW going dark untill they find a new buyer. Buff Bagwell had an interview were he strongly hinted that they would go dark for a few months then come back completely changed.

WCW does suck really bad.  It seems like they get 20 new people every week and their story lines really suck.  So boring.  I like WWF a helluva lot better.

Yes, I agree. WCW sucks big time.

They blatantly waste talent and somehow always know just how to wreck a great new angle. There writers suck, their bookers suck, most of the WCW wrestlers suck. People may argue that WCW wrestlers look alot stronger than WWF wrestlers. The reason=major, major, major steriods usage. My god, some of those people look deformed they use so much steriods. Sure some WWF wrestlers may use steriods but at least they don\'t show it(well, except maybe for Chris Benoit).

WCW can go to hell. My god they suck. WWF rules. ECW is boring. XPW sucks. Here comes another monopoly, at least this one is good. :D

Sorry Lucas, it\'s how all the wrestling threads turn out. Ethugg probably put down the sweater that he was knitting to let us know how he felt about wrestling. Thanks again for your input Thug.

Your both welcome. And the sweater turned out really neato! :p

Seriously, are you implying I\'m not manly because I don\'t like homoerotic, fake sports? (not to be confused with homoerotic real sports like American Football... )

WCW was actually better than WWF at ONE point. It was when the NWO came in and everybody seemed interested in that kind of story. WCW beat WWF in the ratings for over 60 consecutive weeks, thats pretty impressive.

But now WCW is just plain stuipid and extremely boring. They have some really good characters like Sting, Kevin Nash, Kidman, ect. It\'s a shame that all that talent has to go to waste. I hope WWF gets some more good wrestlers because I find thst it\'s also getting kind of boring lately.

No, I was just implying that there really is no need to respond with something like that. You don\'t have to like wrestling but you also don\'t have to say something like that. I started this thread to talk about wrestling with anybody who is interested. If your not interested thats fine, just stay out of it.

Now you have messed up. It was all fun and games until you had to down the wonderful game that is AMERICAN football. Give me shoulderpads and a helmet over a greasy and toothless neanderthal anyday. But then again 10,000 hooligans can\'t be wrong . What is it with you red coats? Do you have that much animosity towards us yanks? :)

BTW, If you are an Aussie, disregard this post because Aussie rules football kicks serious ass and thats the truth ruth.

What is going to happen to Goldberg and Scott Steiner? Will they be going to WWF?

LOL...

Jumpman... I can\'t think of a worse insult than being a wrestling fan...

Lucas Biggins- I\'m obviously just pushing buttons for fun... lighten up...

Gohan- No, I\'m American... :) I knew the way I phrased it would confuse, thus adding to my fun... Again, I\'m just ****in around...

I doubt it. Probably they will just wait until WCW gets back on their feet. It could take some time though.

Goldberg had major surgery and is still rehabbing anyway so it doesn\'t matter in his case. As for Steiner, I think he is one of the only guys worth anything in WCW so I don\'t really know what he\'ll do.

Ethugg, why don\'t you just stay out of this thread? Thank you.

Lucas, Steiner has a pretty lousy reputation as a worker, so who knows what will happen to him. It\'ll be interesting that\'s for sure.

I was oldskool WCW fan back when Flair-Luger always wrestled each other at Clash of Champs.  I think old age has just caught up to everyone and they can\'t give up the ring.  That\'s sad.  But on the other hand, the weak angles and even weaker wrestler gimmicks combined with horrible ownership and commentary don\'t help either.

WCW has had same old, same old since NWO.  Gang mentality.  Anything can get repetitive but WCW is bad.  WWF has me actually interested to see Shane and Vince go 1on1 at Wrestlemania.

im a WWFer...i used to watch a bit of WCW...but the only wrestler there that i found the slightest bit of interest in watching was Goldberg

bah...i say good riddence...it saves me having to argue with a couple of people each week that WWF is better even though they have never watched it

Goldberg, Scott Steiner, and Booker T should be in the WWF.

Setup fueds with Austin, Rock and HHH. That would rock..

Does anyone listen to the Stern Show? He had Vince Mcmahone on today and he said that he is probably going to buy the WCW and that he is going to let it continue to run as a separate operation but they are going to sometimes have PPVs, matches, and tournaments that branch both organizations. That sounds pretty sweet, IMO. Vince is the man.

I heard this too. What would be awesome is if Vince put Paul Heyman in charge of WCW. That could work wonders. But where would they be on tv? Would they be on TNN too?

He said that they would continue to be run the same way(of course with some changes) and that some of the storylines, etc. would cross-over.

well Fuiscient (sp) the guys who tried to buy WCW bowed out and the WWF is in MAJOR talks to buy WCW........so we could see alot happen witin 2-3 weeks............Vince wil probably keep WCW as a rival company but do cross-promotional stuff if he does indeed buy WCW....INDEEED!

We will finally get to see that Stone Cold/Goldberg match that I have been waiting for. :D

This is awesome that the WWF has purchased WCW.

Likely scenario.

Wrestlemania - Rock Vs Austin.

Austin is on the verge of beating the Rock for the Title in a no DQ match. Out of no-where Goldberg comes and gives the biggest Spear ever on Austin letting rock regain the title. Leading to a huge feud Austin 316 vs Goldberg.

Oh please let this be :)

Oh, and check out the buyout at http://www.lordsofpain.net

Buying wcw would be a dumb move for vince. Why should he take on all those contracts. And why would he compete against himself. That seems kind of boastful and narotic to me. I think wwf should buy up the good cruiser weights so they can build a good light heavy weight division. Then buy up scott, bill, and The cat. And maybe a few more, but they don\'t need all those guys just would not makes sense. Vince already has lost money for him and nbc with xfl so taking on another losing business would not be good. Just strip wcw of the guys worth buying and let the rest go.

Would be an awful move? It\'s a done deal.
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The World Wrestling Federation Entertainment Inc. agreed Friday to acquire rival World Championship Wrestling, ending a near 20-year rivalry.

Stamford, Conn.-based World Wrestling Federation Entertainment (WWF: Research, Estimates) now has global rights to the World Championship Wrestling brand, tape library and other intellectual rights.

TNN is anticipated to be the new home of WCW, a WWF spokesman said, and WCW will not air on TNT or WTBS. Cross-brand storylines may start as soon as Monday during the "WWF Raw is War" on TNN and Monday\'s final performance of "WCW Monday Nitro Live" on Turner Network Television.

The possiblitys are endless, but what happens if Vince screws up.  There wont be any other federation to watch..viewers will have no choice but to watch the WWF.  What Vince has done is going to change wrestling forever..this is a long term thing..I hope vince looks at it that way.

Last I heard it was tuesday and they had not bought them yet. Man it happen so fast o well.  I still think this is bad because wcw wrestling is bad. I seen better fights on playschool hards. I mean there whole quality of wrestling has to be revamped. I guess vince has all the power now. I liked it better when there where to two companies going to head to head. Man I wish wcw could have got that act strait.
