Title: Connecting PS2 to Hi-FI
Post by: on March 22, 2001, 01:46:40 AM
Is it possible to connect my PS2 to my Hi-FI??  It would have to be through the Aux sockets on the hi-fi.  Are there leads that would enable me to do this??

I could get speakers for my PS2. But I don\'t think the missus would allow any more.  Besides I have a nice surround sound set-up on my Hi-Fi and I\'d love to rig \'em up together for DVD\'s etc..

Anyone?

Cheers

I did this , You have to use these specail cabels (ussual supplied with hi-fi) and plug them from your tv into your sterio, then you have to press the button for VCD play otrTv mode and it works!

Trouble is I can\'t connect my PS2 through my Video to get the hi-fi sound.

Hi dude...
1. If you have a good receiver, it should have an OPTICAL INPUT !!!
That´s the best way to connect a PS2 with HiFi...
2. If you don´t have a Opto In, then buy a cable with extra cinch out for the sound or just use the cinch cable
that comes with your PS2 !

well if you have a nicam stereo video it will have 2 auido phonos on back, connect these to you stereo with phono leads(they are the red & white plugs, then plug your psx, ps2 or DC into the back using 21 pin scart lead there about £5.

Or alternativly alot of these scart leads now have phone sockets on the side just connect these straight to you hi-fi with phono leads.

I\'m not sure but I dont think people have scarts in the U.S is this true? they tend to use S-video, maybe someone from U.S can confirm this.

Hey that\'s a point!!

The leads that go into my scart socket, which then go into my TV.  I could disconnect the sound leads and plug them straight into my Aux sockets on my hi-fi? And leave the picture connector in my scart socket going into my TV?

does that make sense?? will that work?

cheers

Nah, My TV doesn\'t have one.  It has two scart sockets and normal aerial connection.

The OPT-in I\'ll leave on the scart adaptor going into the TV Scart socket.

Presuming that OPT-in is the picture connector?

cheers

Obviously I\'d be sacrificing the sound from my TV for this but, that doesn\'t matter much.

cheers everyone....I\'ll try it tonight! (is it 5 o\'clock yet??)

Your stereo has an audio out.  Go from your stereo into where you use to have your audio plugged into your scart.

If your stereo has no obvious audio outputs, it has to have a Tape out or record.  Or a VCR2 output.  Or something that feeds line level audio out.

OK... It´s 14.13 where I live :D

Now for the Optical out on the PS2... NO - it´s not for the TV...
It provides an digital sound signal via light (like a laser) !!!
So, if you look at the back site of your HiFi System (Receiver ?!)  or the PS2, then you will see a square input mostly coverd by a plastc cap or so... this is where the cable goes in coming from your PS2 !
READ THE MANUAL ! GOD DAMMIT !!!! :D
If you connect the optical soundoutput from your PS2 with the optical soundinput on your receiver, you will have a crystal clear and very good sound !!!!! THIS REALY ROCKS WITH DVD !!!!!!!!!!! It´s the only way to have Dolby Digital or dts Sound !!!!!!

phuu...

It is all very simple - yust make the right connections ! :D
