Alot of ppl had defected demos to return.
The clerk told me mine is good. So I went
and play. The intro worked ok, but when
snake reaches for his codec on deck I really had
to wait some time before the screen switches
to codecscreen. In other words this game is
really data intensive and the compactdisc demo
can handle it just about so.
The dvd medium should be able to cope with
this and decrease loading times.
Although if you play the demo more often loading
times should speed up a little.
But this \'loading time\' issue is going to be a crucial
criteria to the final game.

I believe its gonna b on dvd..
Hopefullly some behind the scenes footage on the making also, interviews with the voice actors etc..
-
what are you tacking about!!
It certanly will be on DVD but not for that reason, just the Demo is nearly 500megs in size!!!! & thats just 5% of the whole game.
I have the Jap & PAL demo, they both load fine no long wait your disk or ps2 is defective.
-
There are very few future games for the PS2 that won\'t be on DVD. Developers like having a lot of space to work with. Developers also like how the DVD has better streaming speeds than the CD does. There isn\'t really a reason to go with the normal CD anymore (besides the few cents extra making the DVD :)).
-
Will the Loading time be improved by using the DVD format ?
because what i have heard is that the MGS2 demo has very little loading times. looks like i will need to take mine back on monday :(.
-
That what I meant to say when I said "faster streaming speeds." (my mistake :)) Yes, the DVD can load faster than the CD. Like in DOA2:HC, there were no load times going from a battle to a between-battle story. I think load times on the PS2 will eventually not even exist. They are already getting close.
-
Thats one thing that konami is really working on. The load times.
Ps2 loading times seem to be longer than the dreamcasts. And its twice as fast..
-
i think that soon there will be hardly any load times, they are getting shorter and shorter, dvd is the future of games, and dont forget GC with its mini disks :) i wana see how long the loading times are on thsoe games, but anyways, remember the PS2 isnt even 6 months old yet, it got 5 years before the big brother arrives :)

Why are you guys all saying the DVD will load faster than CD????
The DVD drive transfers data off a DVD at 4x which is a paltry 600k of data a second.
When trransferring data off a CD it reads the data at 24x which is 3,600k a second.
So how if it\'s on a DVD will the load times be faster????

Wolfman,
I\'m not a techy person, but I believe the 4x and 24x are relative speeds for the DVD and CD reading respectively - ie you can\'t compare them (you\'re assuming that DVD 4x is just 6 times slower than 24x CD reading speed), and I\'m also 99% sure that the PS2 can read from the DVD a lot faster than it can from the CD.
Anyone else with more technical know-how care to enlighten us?
-
Okay, should I then return my demo or not ?
It does play, only loading is sometimes a little
slow. ( just a little... )
Knotter8
-
no dont return it, whats the point, its a fuc*ing demo man, if its a little slow who cares, as long as it works right!? why dont you play Z.O.E. instead

DVD/ Data Rate/ CD equiv.
1x / (1.32 MB/s) / 9x
2x / (2.64 MB/s) / 18x
4x / (5.28 MB/s) / 36x
5x / (6.60 MB/s) / 45x
6x / (7.93 MB/s) / 54x
8x / (10.57 MB/s) / 72x
10x / (13.21 MB/s) / 90x
16x / (21.13 MB/s) / 144x
So Basically this means that the 4x DVD drive on the ps2 is equivilent to a 36x CD-rom drive. So yes, games on DVD can and will load faster.

Hey unknown, I\'ve had very little time this week
because of my study. Yesterday I had some time :
so it was easier to pick up the MGS2 demo, with the
familiar controls then to start from scratch with ZOE.
I\'m gonna play it this evening or tomorrow though.

I stand corrected....thanks :)

Dammit, you beat me to it. DVDs spins way faster than than CDs.
BTW, How do you guys figure that loading times will disappear on the PS2? I know developers will get a better sense of the hardware but games will also be getting a lot larger. Wouldn\'t that put more strain on the VRAM? I know it is streaming but still. If anythin the load times will be about the same.
IMHO :D
-
I think it will be on DVD sure.
-
What\'s with people and VRAM when they know jack-crap about it? Did someone get a master\'s degree in the University of VRAM? Sorry for being so mean...:(.............:) I\'ve always wondered about the DVD speeds compared to the CD speeds...thanks for the info...:)
