PS2 Tops Ten Million
PlayStation 2: Worldwide shipments of PlayStation 2 have hit the impressive tem million mark.
The original PlayStation took three years to reach this milestone, and Sony now expects to double PS2 shipments during fiscal 2002.
Here\'s the regional breakdown:
Japan: 4.65 million – from March 4, 2000 launch
North America: 2.76 million - from October 26, 2000 launch
Europe: 2.63 million - November 24, 2000 launch
Kazuo Hirai, president and COO at Sony America, beamed, "We\'re pleased to announce that five months after the introduction of PlayStation 2 in North America the company is on target to meet the three million unit shipment projection for this market by March 31, the end of our fiscal year."
He added, "Vigorous sales of PlayStation 2 hardware and software further demonstrate the mass market appeal of the PlayStation brand and illustrates the company\'s ongoing dominance in this highly competitive category."

I got 4 people I work with and 2 of my friends to buy a PSX2..
ITs all goood... My best friend was in a druken tequila stuppor when he went out and bought one. He woke up the next day and forgot all about it, then he saw and it. And was like whoooaaa, I got a PSX2.. WHOO HOOO... ooh whatever.. Coolio..

"Shipped" is way for the company to sound like they \'sold\' lots of units. Instead they are simply filling requests by stores and companies that will try to sell them themselves (ie. Fry\'s, E.B., Circuit City etc.). "Shipped" isn\'t a reliable source for the number of units sold.

Do all kinds of stoopid drunken mischef,and don\'t remember a thing about it the next day.
Last weekend a friend of mine went to a party and got REALLY drunk he decied he like a table in the house he as in and attemted to steal it.The table was a whole lot bigger than and he hurt himself not seriously though.
But for the rest of the evening he wouldn\'t leave the table,he had to make sure nobody would take it from him :laughing:

Actually Sony does have 10 million sold. THey sold htem to retailers. Its up to retailers to sell them. Which im sure they are doing. None of the stores around here have any and when the do get some they sell withen a half hour.

Ultimately I think what counts is that the customers buy the units, not the retailers. So just because Sony has \'shipped\' 10 million units, doesn\'t mean there has been a customer demand for 10 million units.
In California I NEVER see PS2\'s sitting around on store shelves, but I have seen many posts where people elsewhere see them on shelves in abundance.
We shouldn\'t consider this 10 million units \'sold\' since 10 million customers haven\'t bought them. Sure, sometime soon there will be 10 million sold, but for now this is just the usual business jargon.

Why is it unsurprising to read another negative remark from you regarding Sony? Every company does this, they show-off their shipped numbers and pass them off as units sold.. like someone said, technically they are sold, and they will be sold. It\'s nothing new. I love Sega and my Dreamcast as much as the next guy man, but if you\'re here and dislike Sony, why bother?

The DC died because of the ignorant f\'ckheads that fill this world. The DC is a great system, has a ton of great games, and still has games coming. And for the record, SEGA doesn\'t suck. I bet everyone here will be real happy when SEGA games start popping out for the PS2.
I love my PS2, and it has nothing but potential, but I\'ve been enjoying great DC games since 9-9-99. Also, if the DC hardware \'sucked\' it wouldn\'t have any games that could compare to PS2, and it sure does have quite a few.
Lastly, it didn\'t take a few months, while Sony did surpass DC sales quickly, you gotta remember it\'s been out in Japan for a year already.

Off topic: DC\'s Sales
Why does this not suprise me coming from Nplayer-2? DC was the best selling (in its timeframe, compared to every other systems 1st yr or 2) system ever, until PS2. Second best selling console in history isn\'t bad, and its mainly Japan (those ****ers) and SOJ that killed DC. Not lack of sales in the US or Europe.

actully i don\'t think sega sucks nor it\'s hardware...i just wanted to get MR beast here mad;)
i have a DC and the only game i like to play is quake3 on-line with a mouse and keyboard...
The point of this thread is that SONY has sold 10million consoles....Sears,Bestbuy,Toys r Us, KB toys, EBworld..etc..etc would not order them if there was no demand....

Sony hasn\'t sold 10 million. period. Like I said before, my Babbages and EB have tons in stock, as do the Toys R us around here (now, lazy bastages), PS2 isn\'t the hot thing anymore. ALthoguh, it is still selling fast.
And, to whoever said about reporting distributed numbers as sell through numbers, well all I can think of is Square and Sony who do that, hmmm.
BTW, like I said before, I dont hate Sony, just their business model. (I have now had a PS2 for 2 months, I just don\'t spout crap like many Sony fanboys on here the day I got it, such as threads titled "Yay! Look at Me, I got one finally", because no one really cares.)

Beast, you say only Sony and Square do these things. Do you want me to post BS interviews with SEGA, so you can judge their morals? Do you think I give a ****, if Sony says the PS2 will cure cancer? Or if MS said the Xbox prevents HIV? I don\'t give a damn what these companies say. I don\'t care if Square comes out and says the PS2 is 25x more powerful than all other next-gen systems combined. In the end, if I like what they produce, I\'ll get it. That\'s what matters. Every single person in the world talks BS @ one point or another.
The point? Games are just games. Forget the BS that the developers promise or say.

I\'m actually surprised you have a PS2. What games did you get for it (if any)? And why must you assume that everyone who posts \'yay I got my ps2 finally\' is a fanboy? Can\'t they just be excited that they finally got the console they wanted? I do agree however, not many people really care. You say you don\'t like Sony\'s business model,.. I\'ve never seen you say something negative towards the X-box, so do you approve of M$\'s business model?

You are totally right AlteredBeast. Those numbers are the units shipped to the stores and not the numbers that were actually sold. Out of the numbers that were sold, most of them were sold as DVD players.
As much as you all hate Microsoft and say they lie. Sony has blinded a lot of you into believing that they are sinless like Jesus Christ, when they are really like the Anti-Christ.
I don\'t think there are as many compulsive liars in this industry like Sony. They doctor most of almost every shot to either be Full Motion Video or to be renders (kind of like Microsoft is the only one that is supposed to be doing this) and they constantly outright lie about their numbers.
Of course if Sony lies and such its gotta be okay right? Its okay to be brainwashed, right?
Am I bitter? No way, but you know what? I am no fool either and most of you that are loyal to sony are actually blinded by your love for this company and can\'t see the real truth of whats going on...

I have Onimushua and Rayman 2. I havent had the money (or care) to have any of the other current games. Although I have bought a few PSX games as I can now play some of the ones I missed after my third one broke.

Sony has not lied per se. They are saying shipped but many of you assume and still believe that means sold. All of the companies do that and it is hard for the gamer newbies to swallow.

FFS the Playstation took a full year to acheve 1 million units world wide.

If I were to say something like "Sony\'s PS2 is not designed that well" in a thread that already has a pro-PS2 slant. I will be looked upon as a fanboy. Yes Stanzo, you nailed it on the head. Why he hasn\'t been banned again is beyond me. Probably because he only appears when he has something negative to say in a way so he can somehow polish MS\' balls. Still though, he\'s hilarious to keep around because he bashes brand names rather then anything else. "I hate Sony because I played their games a LONG time ago at E3, but I refuse to try them again because there\'s no way they can get better." If he went by that logic, then Gamestock would be the opitime of the X-Box\'s hardware and why he hasn\'t lost faith in them is beyond me. I\'m just gonna add some small comments this this thread.
-There is a differenced between units shipped and units sold. There is definately not 10 million PS2 owners out there yet. I see a lot of PS2s still sitting on the shelves.
-Satisfied? A good percentage of the people who own a PS2 are not satisfied and have had major hardware problems with them. There is not 10 million satisfied PS2 owners.
-Docwiz, please leave. Don\'t you have a wife and kids( shrudders)? Spend some more time with them and leave us out of your pathetic life.

Actually Jumpman, I beg to differ. PS2 has had problems, which you can plainly see from the main forum, but I saw just as many problems with the DC on another BB I used to frequent. There have been problems with the sound on PS2 from what I have seen, there were also many problems with our DCs. But we only represent a small minority. Also, many of us purchased first generation, first out the door PS2s, which had the opportunity for problems.
I would say many people are satisfied with their PS2, mainly because I don\'t see many hardcore people own PS2. I actually see many hardcore reject it, for some strange reason, on UGTZ, and such. You got me.
Many casual gamers only demand good sports games, they have them. They demand a fighting game or two, well guess what, they have the most \'popular\' 3D fighter. They also got their Square game, crappy or not, it is there.
Ryu - I leave Double Standards go unpunished when they are obvious, and the idiot that states them is already being chastised enough. I only waste my time on the people who don\'t get there beatins from the other members.
ddaryl - what is it that I see in Dwarrior\'s post? Oh yeah, it is N-Player of old. Next Genner of old, etc. They all converted, I am guessing he will too.
