Backup your thoughts with arguments (why do you need standalone player...). What do you think about PS2 DVD player, quality and all !!!
-
I don\'t want one now really, since I\'ve gotten my PS2.
I don\'t think it\'s neccesarily quality, I just dont need to spend 400 more bucks on something I already have.
-
why the hell would i spend another 220 dollars just to buy a dvd player when hmmm i lready have one in my PS2, the PS2 dvdplayer is just like the basic sony dvd players its just as good and it will get the upgrade soon enough.
-
Im personally not a film fanatic as such but its always good to keep up with technology. Yeah ill buy the odd DVD disc from time to time but I doubt I will buy a standalone DVD player. After all the PS2 seems fine for playing DVDs.
I think the only people who would buy a standalone DVD player after purchasing a PS2 are movie fanatic perfectionists who insist on having the best playback quality and features. For everyone else im sure the PS2 will be fine.
-
I have bought one since I bought a PS2. For one, I live with my brother and you oculd say that I bought it for him. Im usually playing Ps2 games when he wants to watch a movie so The panasonic is usefull. Besides the Remote for the Panasonic is better then anyone fo rthe ps2.

wll im just wondering, hen you say DVD remote is better for the panasonic, you men it has more features right??, cause there are lik 20 DVD remotes for the PS2 that kick ars some even switch to you tv, so you never have to switch remotes, it hink PS2 remotes area little better, well the good ones
-
If I had the money (which I don\'t) I would buy a Pioneer progressive scan DVD-player - it\'s simply amazing.
But for non-fanatics the PS2 playback is quite alright. :D
-
I don\'t need a stand-alone-player. I\'m happy with DVD-playing-abilities of my PS 2. :bounce:
By the way: I heard that there would be problems with the colors (to much of green) when playing DVDs without S-Video. I played a DVD when using the SCART-cable and did\'nt have a problem. :surprised:
-
I Plan to buy a DVD player and a PS2.
-
The quality of the PS2-dvd is very good, with the monstercables and a good TV the picture is great.
I have a friend that have a Pionner 737 dvd player for about 1000£, I could not see any difference in picturequality, the 737 is faster in therms of accessing the dvd menues a.s.o.
But picture, no way, you would need a very very expensive TV to see any difference at all.
-
If/when I get my hands on a X-Box Ill be sure to check out the DVD playback package for it as soon as its available, in the meanwhile Im pretty pleased with the DVD playback on the PS2 considering its primarily a videogames machine - Im not saying its perfect (audio sync problems, and slight colour banding on dark scenes) but its more than watchable.

I have a region free Macrovision free Apex DVD player!
-
I have a Pioneer DVD/LD player with S-Video. It is excellent. I had that about 4 months before I bought my PS2. I have 2 TV\'s in my house, so I have my Pioneer on my bigscreen and my PS2 in my basement with my DC (AH!) So it doesnt matter to me, just more DVD players!
-
I dont need a new DVD player.
PS2 DVD is great, nice picture super sound! And sony will prob. release some new drivers soon.

My freaking brother just bought a stand a lone dvd player last november (dued to the fact that he can\'t find any ps2 left in the shelf). He can\'t wait so he bought a $250 Sony dvd player. it drives me crazy because with that amount of money, you can bought Pioneer Progressive DVD Player.
Anybody here thinks ps2 will have progressive scan built in for ps2 in the near future?
-
BTW, I forgot to mention that I have a DVD player on my computer, so technically I have 3.............
-
Oops Forgot I have a DVD rom.
After I buy a PS2 and a DVD player(Its going to be a panasonic stereo system with DVD playback)I ll own 3 as well
-
I alos have a DVD-rom.. but its 3 years old.. :)
-
I had a stand alone player way before PS2 came out. That\'s why I\'m not completely sold on the all-in-one thing. I just want games dammit, and PS2 isn\'t the place to get them. Not for me anyway...
-
I have a stand alone Sony DVD player, the DVP S570D. I purchased it in December, and got my PS2 in March.
The reason why I like stand alone products is that if something ever happens to it, I can pinpoint the problem much easier. If my movies dont play the way they should, or there is something wrong, I know it\'s the DVD player, not the reciever, PS2, VCR, or whatever. If I had the same problem with the PS2, it might get in the way of gameplay or something else, so I would basically lose my DVD player and game system.
The other thing is, I like the freedom that a stand alone player offers. The remote owns the PS2\'s, the features are great, and the quality is superb. I\'m into both movies and games, so it wasnt a bad purchase and I dont regret it.
-
Dont watch many movies anymore but when I do I use my PC-DVD I like the playback more and I dont have a stereo sys on my TV yet. I want my PS2 for games.

I\'ve got three.
One in my computer.
My PS2.
And a stand alone DVD player.
Next purchase? A portable Sony DVD player......
;)
-
I have 2 stand alone DVD players, and 2 DVD roms that I have access too. Which means, 1 DVD player at my brother\'s house, the other, at my parents house. They got them before the PS2 was even released. And, unlike the PS2, they have remotes, and a few things that are better (I think). Also, with the PS2 now, mulitiple rooms now have DVD players, instead of just one. Great reasons to have a standalone, not exactly. But what is? :p
-
i am going to wait and see how they upgrade the ps2 dvd capabilities. Hopefully progressive scan will be in there. I also want the sony remote. I have the pelican right now and every time i adjust something sound wise on my reciever the pelican ir picks it up and fast fowards or rewinds the movie and it is very very annoying
-
Have had one for a couple years now. Don\'t use the PS2 for DVDs. Well, I used it once, but that parental lock and the navigation both annoyed me so I quickly went back to my DVD player. Plus I have a Pronto remote and I don\'t feel like reprogramming it.
-
I\'ve heard Sone is going to be coming out with progressive scan DVD drivers for the PS2.
-
Well, I\'ve got 2 stand alone players, one cheapo one that I got 2 years ago, and a midpriced NUON enhanced DVD player I got last month. PS2\'s DVD playback is great for gamers/movie fans on a budget though... The reason I got all these? Easy. One for each of my good TV\'s. (I say good, cause I\'m not getting a player for my little TV/VCRs in the kitchen or bathrooms).
-
definatly... i\'ve noticed that the lips are way off as far as being in sync with the voices... it\'s REALLY BAD
-
Ive had a Toshiba dvd player for about 2+ years now. Its multiregion and kick arse.
Looks better than the ps2 dvd imo, with the ps2 being alittle squased.
-
Geez, where do you live???
$400 FOR A DVD PLAYER!?!?!?!?
Here in the good ol\' U S of A, you can get one for $100.
-
By the way, isn\'t this topic in the wrong forum?

My thoughts exactly :)
I bought my PS2 mainly because I wanted a DVD Player-I plan to use it as a DVD Player 75% of the time and for games 25% of the time.
I will not buy another DVD Player;
-That\'s why I bought the PS2 in the first place.
-Sony has a good reputation for DVD Players and I have had NO PROBLEMS with mine (knock on wood...)
-
I have SONYs standalone player and it kicks ass few months later I bought PS2 and it... It, kicks ass. And now I am kicking myself in the ass because I have two DVD players !!! This is something that never should of happen to me !!! But still, standalone DVD has a little better contrast (watch Pitch Black on standalone and PS2 DVD player and you will see what I mean) !!!
-
I have a dvd player and will be getting a new one this summer. Toshiba has a new dvd player coming out this summer that will include DVD-Audio and progressive scan for under $400, most DVD-Audio dvd players are around $1000 right now. I also like the picture of my stand alone better than the PS2.
-
I already have a DVD player.
-
This should be in Off-Topic, so that\'s where it is headed.
I had a Magnavox player for three years almost, but I sold it when I got the PS2.
-
I have a standalone DVD player, and my Psx2 is only used for its DVD capabilities when I\'m in my room, and someone is using the entertainment system, or I just feel like chillin in my room. Its more of a convience for me.
-
I have a SONY DVD player ( not PS2 )
