Title: I\'m making an RPG, and all of you can be a part of it
Post by: 182Ways on March 25, 2001, 08:28:03 PM: You read that correctly. I\'ll soon begin working on a full-fledged RPG epic, and all of you will (probably) be starring in it. I will also be including PS2Lair and PS2Web, since I post(ed) at their forums as well. The time period is set in the same era as the classic Final Fantasy games, and the story will go something like this:
There are 3 kingdoms who rule over the world. One (PSX2Central), is leading in power over the other two (PS2Lair and PS2Web), and so far, peace has kept everything at ease. That peace, however, would soon shatter when a new breed of creatures emerge. These creatures are known as....the Fanboys (name pending). As they infest the land of the 3 kingdoms, each is brought into war, and a battle for supremacy begins. The Fanboys wish for but one thing: The power of the PS2. With this item in their grasp, they will have near-complete control over the entire world!!! It\'s up to the Kingdoms (aka the 3 forums) to protect the precious piece of technology. But will they be able to?

And so on and so on. That\'s the basic story structure. I\'ve got some great ideas in my head, but they\'re kinda hard to express in writing. Anyway, now that that\'s done with, I need characters!

So far, I will be including the major people of this forum (admins, mods, and frequent posters). If you are not one of those, and you want to be a part of the game, then reply here with the needed information (see below).
If you are one of the kinds of members listed above, and you want to be a part of the game, then reply telling me what class you would like to be a part of (i.e. Knight, Thief, Mage, Royalty, etc.) and also what skills you would like to have. I will allow any skills you can think of, just as long as they aren\'t too farfetched.
If, however, you are a mod, admin, or frequent poster, and you don\'t want to be a part of the game, then just reply telling me not to include you, and it will be done.

Ok, I think that\'s all I have to say. If you have any questions or comments, then feel free to post \'em here. I\'ll try to answer them as best as I can.

Important Note: I have not come up with a title yet, and I really don\'t have any good ones in mind. If you think you have a good name, then please tell me. If I like your idea, then I\'ll upgrade your status in the game.

Oh, and if you are a part of the game, your character\'s personality will be directly linked with how you act on this forum. So if you\'re a lamer here, then you\'ll be a lamer in the game. On the other hand, if you\'re well-respected in these forums, then you\'ll be a well-respected character. I just thought I\'d point that out.

I hope all of you jump on to this opportunity to be a part of an RPG! :)

I would love to be in it. I would like to be a mage or royalty. As far as skills go I\'ll let you decide but I would like something like I can shoot the fire/ice/thunder from my hands and I can teleport around. Or I can read minds and mind control stuff. Or something like that. Being a knight would be cool too. I could help defend the poor citizens of PSX2Central from the evil fanboys. If you come up with anything good tell me ok?

As far as names go I\'m pretty much clueless. Sorry. :(

You could call the fanboys trolls.

this is a great idea, and I\'ve been doing this quite a lot on http://www.tolkienonline.com forums.

Will I have a major role? I am evil, so forth I want to be a Dark Mage - my magical powers are linking the four elements - Fire, Water, Air, Earth - and I have my gods to worship. My magic works due to the sacrifices to the evil.

But I won\'t go into the details yet. What do you think? am I a lamer or well-respected by you on these forums? :)

Count me in. I would like to be either a knight or mage, but I would like a "special" skill/spell.

"Black Hole". This skill (or spell) would be a gravity based attack (duh) that would either kill instantly (with certain probability) or cause major damage :)

Cool.

Black Hole is a play on my name since CygnusXI is a constellation where a black hole is named, also I got my name from a song by the group Rush. So if you wanted to call it something that played on those words, that would work. Black-hole-rush, Black rush, etc.

Son of Goku, he is initially trained by Piccolo after the battle with Radditz. He looks up to Piccolo for being such a great fighter, and trys to immitate him by wearing similar clothes. He has the potential to become the most powerful being in the universe, yet since he cannot always fully utilize his strength, he can be defeated. Gohan is the first Saiya-jin to go SSJ2, but after the Cell saga he spends little time training and focuses on his studies.

Anyway to expand on character I would like to be able to control the elements much like Joyda. And I would like to have psychic powers like unknown, cause Pyscho Mantis kicks @ss. :cool: Maybe I could be a psychic mage who can control the elements with his mind???

And about you trying to think of a name for your game, good luck! I have been programming a game for the past 7 months, and I still don\'t have a name for it. I call it "Jumpman" now just so I have something to call it, even though there is already a game series called Jumpman. I am hoping a good name just pops into my head some day.

IronFist: I\'ll see what I can do. And as for the name thing, I\'m still thinking. I\'ve code-named the project "Emotion," so that\'s what I\'ll be referring to it as from here on out (until I get the real title, of course).

Samwise: No problem. I\'ll make you a part of the PSX2Central Royalty (a prince, perhaps?) and have you down as a secret character.

Darth Joyda: You can download the program here... http://rpgmaker.chat.ru/ It\'s actually really easy to use once you get down the basics, but it also allows for a very large amount of customization through advanced techniques. Of course, the thing is illegal, but nobody seems to care :)

So maybe a more oppriate(sp?) name would be "Psychic mage".

Post by: 182Ways on March 27, 2001, 04:29:14 PM: Yeah you\'ll be able to download it. Should be somewhere between 3 and 5 megs in size. That\'s not counting the 12 meg RTP file that you must d/l first though, but I\'ll get into that later.

Also, here\'s the first screenshot. As stated earlier, it\'s only to give you a look at the graphical style that will be used.

If you can\'t tell, the pic is of a character standing on a cliff, overlooking a kingdom. I understand the thing looks a little bland, but I whipped it up in about 5 minutes, so it\'s rushed. I\'ll post more screens as progress continues.

And that\'s just fine enough of a landscape there, Ways. I like the graphics-style - the old FF style.

Also, I will be releasing a demo of the game that will include approx. 30 minutes of gameplay across all 3 Kingdoms. The demo will be released in one week. In order to play the game/demo I will be making, you must first download a file and install it on your computer. Here\'s the link, along with a mirror in case the first one doesn\'t download:

She\'d be a fighter. She\'d be very skilled, and big men would quiver at her name. She\'d be famed all over the country. If not the world. At least by certain people. She\'d act alone. She\'d have a tragic past. But she\'d be young, under 20 years. Her weapon would be a sword. But she\'d be skilled in martial arts too. Maybe she could even fly. She could have wings, covered in white feathers. She would have many skills. One of them would be great agility. She could sense things. She would also have some magic powers. She\'d have one extremely powerful move which would destroy a city if ever used, thus it would be forbidden for her to use it (Very Sailor Moon-esque, I know). She would actually be a princess or something like that of the winged people but she wouldn\'t care cause she ran away from home as a child (now I\'m starting to sound like FFIX.) She\'d be very beautiful and strong. But she would not wear leather.

Hmm.....something like that....:)

Umm, you don\'t need the RTP to play the game 182Ways.
Include all the files you\'ve used in your game into the corresponding folders( even if they\'re from the RTP, but include only the ones you need), copy the harmony.dll into the game directory and then open RPG_RT.ini and add this:

FullPackageFlag=1

ZIP the game; now the people will be able to play the game without downloading the RTP.

Post by: kopking on March 29, 2001, 10:08:19 AM: o.k ive thought about it, i would like to be a smuggler maybe a x-armed services who got dishonourable discharged as i could not be controled,who travels the land helping who ever has the most money, untill finally i see there is no need for material things and fight in the cause of good. I have little respect for the rules and break them, i should be a 1st class pilot but as i said before i work for money and do jobs such as smuggling people or any thing that needs to be taken with no questions asked. I should be more of a physical fighter who uses mechanical weopons such as guns, bombs, etc.

Yes, but I\'m including a lot of RTP, and if I decided to just include everything in the game folder, it would make the folder huge (believe me, I\'ve tried that route before).
I\'ll be releasing a demo or 2 before I release the final game, and it would be much easier for everyone if they just d/l the actual game files (which are small in size) and one large file (the RTP), instead of several large game files (the actual game/demo + the RTP files I used).
It\'s hard to explain, but this will be the easiest way to do things...trust me. :)

Well, when the demo is released, you\'ll just need to click on an .exe file and the game will automatically start.

And, I don\'t know what your character will look like. I\'m not too far into the game, so I haven\'t introduced your character yet. You\'ll probably be in the demo, so you\'ll get to see then.

I just was curious cos\' you didn\'t choose the other way. It worked fine to me in the past, and all the game would be updated if you include into a zip the new files you used/created for a newer version.
Anyway, i downloaded the RTP some time ago( but i remember that it was really slow in my poor 56k :().

BTW which battle system are you using 182Ways?

I\'m not making a custom battle engine because, in all honesty, the game isn\'t worth it. My main project features a battle system like Star Ocean 2\'s, and it alone is tedious enough to code for. Here\'s an early screen to go along with the shameless self-promotion:

Now, Legacy of Emotion will have literally hundreds of playable characters, so you can imagine how building a new battle system for it would border on impossible.
