Title: ZOE reviewed
Post by: RaZe on March 26, 2001, 07:34:07 PM
IGN reviewed Zone of Enders.  It looks like they gave it a pretty average score, but I\'ll wait and make my own judgement.  I really doubt I\'ll have any regrets for ordering it since the MGS2 demo alone makes it worth the purchase.   Here\'s the review..... http://ps2.ign.com/reviews/14247.html

Daily Radar gave it a hit

Sonyweb gave it a high score

I read all the reviews then formulate a preview score of my own from the information from many sites

Taking 1 review as gospel is a bad philosophy

From what I have read ZOE is a game that is closer to a 8.2 - 8.5 outta 10

Ddaryl\'s way (and my own :)) is the way to go about reviews. Take the majority of the reviews, and formulate your own idea.. Don\'t take just 1 bad one, or one good one... and the best site to get all reviews would be; http://www.gamerankings.com

- what\'s in the f\'cking box?

I agree..Ign were so picky about the voices.  A 5.0 for presentation come on..thats not right.

Well, they took off a lot of points for translation, and if I can put up with Ring of \'He was like Butta...\' I can put up with ZoE :)

I think people are expecting to much from PS2 games. It\'s still just 3D polygonal graphics so your gonna see the same stuff as last generation just much improved.  It\'s gonna be like the jump from 8bit to 16bit.  Sure there will be the few innovators as there are every generation but I don\'t think we\'ll see as big a revolution as last generation untill another method of rendering is found.  Maybe the next switch will be to true 3D like virtual reality.  Anyways, I\'m exptecting a solid action game with fun intuitive controls which is what I was always expecting.  A word of advice, it\'s been said many times, don\'t get sucked into the hype.  If some kind of revolution come this generation I think it\'s gonna be internet related.

Oh well, got of topic, ZOE is gonna be great if you take it for what it is.

Horse poo. Sonysource gave it an 9/10, dailyradar gave it a hit, and there are other sites that gave it higher scores. It\'s kind of like shenmue. Mixed reviews they either hated it or love it. And we all know that most critics are sinical assholes.

I disagree the emotion engine is capable of much more then a graphical jump as  ZOE proves with its innovative camera and anime fighting style

GT3\'s physics and AI is possibly impossible on probably any platform, but no way on the PSX. and thats even without mentioning the eye candy

MGS2 attention to details as well.

ZOE has been graded on its expectation for next gen software and over all adding all the reviews together its a slightly above average game with alot of reasons I can agree with from what I have read and seen via screens and movies

IGN was a little brutal but hell there\'s always a few reviews that are tougher then others, happens onb almost every game

For the best opinion, you might as well wait for my review come wednesday :)  Mine generally reflects that of just about everyone on the board oddly enough.  Maybe it\'s because the reviews I make aren\'t seen by a million people, but who knows.  I guess the smaller more confined reviews that expresses the opinion of the entire game rather then one aspect is the better of them all.  At least they didn\'t dump all over it like DRUK.

Hey Ddaryl,
Lynx opened his thread before this one opened.
Also, the reviewers editor TOLD him to review ZOE harshly.

Hmm I have question? Since I pre-ordered ZOE with overnight shipping off of ebgames.com would I get it tomorrow or wednesday. Casue when ever I\'ve pre-ordered games off there with overnight shipping I usually get them the day that it is shipped. Which in ZOE\'s case is tomorrow.

Whenever I see a ship date for a game, it generally interprets to "we are shipping it that day to houses and to stores."  Unless of course you live close to an EB warehouse in which case you just might get it that day.  I live close to a warehouse, hell, I should order online, but then what do I do, ship it back if I have a faulty disk?  No thanks, stores all the way.

I would go to a store but you see the only stores that carry games in my town are wal-mart and k-mart. Which sucks.:(

I understand the K-Mart thing, but what\'s so bad about WalMart?

Well they are all right it\'s just that I think their game selection is low. I mean the PSX has like 1000+ games and they have like 60. And their DC selection sucks always had from the begining. The PS2 selection is alright I mean it\'s getting there. Also the majority of their employes that work in the game section are dumbasses and don\'t know a thing about games.

Just to clarify a few things:

1.  Never EVER listen to store employees when it comes to videogames.  Research it yourself, they;re in it for either the sale or their own biased views.

2.  There are over 400 PSX titles available in the US, no more then 100 of them are really worth owning and even that number is stretching it.

3.  If you ever get a defective copy from an online source, you have to mail it back and then they have to mail you a replacement whereas if you get it at a store, it\'s just a 15 minute wait rather then 2 or 3 days.

4.  Wal Mart is probably the best off-hand non videogame store that sells videogames.  it beats the hell out of Sears, Kmart, and most likely Target.

5.  You\'re right.  Low supply of DC games is inexcusable and they should be crucified for the fact.

That is all :)

It\'s cool ^_^.  Mine might of been created before but this one had more replies..as a matter of fact mine didn\'t have any replies..so it was probably better to keep this one and delete the other.

Ack! Now I feel bad.  Lynx I didn\'t even know your post was about the IGN review until after I posted this. Otherwise I would have just replied to it instead of starting a new thread.  Maybe the title of the post was misleading and that\'s why it didn\'t get many replies.  Sorry.

I never base my decision on one review or many reviews for that matter.  I only read reviews to get a good idea about what I\'m in for but I can only decide if I\'ll like a game or not by playing it for myself.  There have been games that got great reviews from almost everybody, yet I still disliked the game and vice versa.  Although I am more likely to pick a game up that didn\'t originally interest me once I see every reviewer praising it.

I hate reviews..I never listened to reviews for The Bouncer i went out and bought it..Loved it until i beat it 4 times in less then 2 hrs....God i hate short games..Lets hope the rest of the PS2 games don\'t suffer from shallow gameplay.

Hopefully short games are mostly behind us.
CD said Blood Omen 2 is going to be somewhere between 50-70 hours long.
Thats going to be awesome.
I read something on that game today in both Unofficial and Official playstation magazines, and the game seems like it is going to be one of the best of the year.
Its set for a christmas launch.
